The mockery of the whole thing is that he had the audacity to appeal so gets a bigger ban.

If Taylor keeps his head down and doesn't appeal his sending off, he will get a 3 game ban, providing the FA don't take it further.

The FA have their pompous heads up their fat arses.

Aliadiere

Just goes to show you, if Aliadiere had dropped to the ground like he'd been shot and rolled about a bit then he'd be playing on Saturday and Maschareno would be serving the ban... Absolute nonsense

Aliadiere

A Hartlepool appeal was dismissed as 'frivolous' a couple of weeks ago.

The original red card decision was a load of b***ocks!!

Same goes for the sending off in the Coventry v WBA FA Cup game.

A couple of ex-players looking at the decisions is what's needed. Not these fat old FA gits!

Aliadiere

it was frivolous though as they were never going to rescind a slap in the mooey

Aliadiere

Stupid, ill advised appeal, obviously Southgate wanted to find a way of giving the new signing Alves a run in the team and he now has the chance!!

Aliadiere

Poor decision to send him off. As mentioned, if that deserved a sending off, so did Mascherano deserve to have one.
He provoked it, and Aliadiere reacted with a similar soft touch. Masch stood there and got the referee's attention, whereas Ali didn't.

Aliadiere

Injustice in the first place, now turned into scandalous injustice.
Double jeopardy, an instrument for those who favour expediency over fair play.

Aliadiere

It was frivolous in that it had absolutely no chance of succeeding: it was very harsh, but putting your hands to an opponent's face - however gently - is technically a red card offence, so there was no way that the ref's decision would have been over-turned (only chance would have been if ref said that it looked like a hard slap at the time and video showed he was wrong and he accepted that).

Any little chance that Aliadiere had disappeared when Southgate came on MotM saying that it was a fair (if harsh) decision.

I agree with the principle of the extra game's ban for frivolous appeals as clubs will otherwise appeal to try to change the timing of a ban so that someone can play in a key game before the ban starts (or they can get in a loanee)

Aliadiere

If anyone came up to me and grabbed my throat, no matter how hard, i'd slap him back too.

Fair play to the Chavy Frenchman, but it baffles me that Mascerano gets away with it.

Correct. But this "extra game" would never be dished out to the likes of Wenger and Ferguson which makes these type of rulings unfair.

Thats what bugs me. The FA are trying to act 'tough' by doing this but they would never have the balls to do it to Man U.

Aliadiere

On MOTD last night they showed the Essien red card for an elbow which was appealed, the ban stood but no extra game. Much more of a 'frivolous' appeal than this one.

Aliadiere

The FA is clearly in the wrong here. Interestingly Middlesbrough seem to be the first Premiershit club affected.

I thought the idea was that they didn't want to allow clubs to use the appeals process as a way of deferring bans past important games. It's a stupid system brought about by FIFA wanting suspensions to take place sooner after the offence. We should go back to the old system IMHO.

Aliadiere

Australian Rules has a perfectly working appeals system where the player turns up the next day, the appeals tribunal looks at it, cases are put, then the tribunal says yes or no and the decision stands.
We faff about too much in this country. Why does it take so long for an appeal to happen? It's not like the FA or the player have anything else to do on non-matchdays. They don't do 8 hours training every day. Why can't we just get things done in this country?

However I think the point here is the incompetence/inconsistence of the FA in not charging Macherano also.

And as far as I can tell this is due to the outdated rules about things not being able to be dealt with after the event. If no match official saw it and dealt with it at the time, the record shows that it didn't happen. Which is utter b***ocks considering the fact that each top flight match has had about 20 cameras on it since 1992.
Still think yellow cards should be appealable too. Get this ****ing lazy old boys club earning their money or **** them off and get people in who can do the job.

.............is that right?..... I thought that if the ref didn't see it at the time, and therefore that it wasn't dealt with by him(/?her? ooer missus) there and then, the FA could then call for video evidence and adjudicate upon given 'incident'........

Still think yellow cards should be appealable too.

............I think you've just answered your question.............the country generally is being run by incompetents, whether they be governmental, financial, or operational.................

Think your first point is the wrong way round. If the ref did see an incident and took no action, it's then that the FA won't intervene (was case with Gallas v ManU). If the ref missed it completely, but video shows something for which he would have shown a red card, then retrospective punishment is possible. Which implies that either (a) ref saw it and thought it OK, or (b) ref missed it, but FA judged it too minor to intervene. Both hard to take given the Aladiere decision

I think appeals against yellow cards would be largely unworkable - too many of them. If it were introduced, it would have to be for matters of fact only, not whether a decision was a bit harsh, and even then I'd only suggest it for when it was one of 2 yellows leading to a dismissal. Not much would help lower division clubs anyway, as standard of filming not usually good enough to judge a tight decision

As long as they bring it in for all 4 divisions (which they won't)

Got any England-based examples?

But the rules are a set of facts, aren't they? So the rules for a yellow card should be fact-based, should they not?
And there are rules for spurious challenges to cards, as we've already seen.
Smith's yellow against Chesterfield where he came in from the side rear, but not from the back, cleanly won the ball to put it out for a throw, didn't touch the opposition player and got a yellow card for an accurate decisively-executed tackle, was a ridiculous decision, yet there's no appeals process. Smith's second yellow for his sending off was a bit of a rough decision too, the ref giving him a nanosecond after the whistle after putting up with elbows in his face on a few occasions during the match. Ref should have exercised a bit of common sense there but seemed to be waiting for an excuse to get rid of him.

I honestly cannot understand why if the 4th official sees something, he can't contact the referee through the earpiece. Same with linesmen, things happen off the ball in their direct vision but they're too scared to talk to the referee unless he asks them. We'll use the technology eventually, things will start to work and we'll all ask why it wasn't done years ago. FIFA dithering the rule of the day, of course.
