An Apology

Hi Bees Fans,

Bolton fan here. You won’t get much from our club, so I’d like to express my sincerest apologies for the diabolical management from our side that lead to the postponement cancellation of tomorrow’s game. You’re in your rights to seek action against us for monies lost for tickets, transports, hotels, but in honestly we’re likely to fold so I wouldn’t hold your breath. I’m embarrassed to be a fan.

If anyone has hotels (I know it’s not too far, so can’t be many of you), Bolton doesn’t have too much to offer but you can hope on the train to Manchester within 20 minutes. Plenty of bars and whatnot to get involved with there, and I can offer suggestions for the afternoon if you want some decent drinking holes. I’d like to say we’ll lock horns again another day, but for the life of me I can’t see that for a long time.

Apologies once again (and likewise if this is the wrong forum!)

A disheartened Trotter.

Haha! The sweaty tank top wearing crook wouldn’t dare. He can’t do the proper thing so it’s up to us fans to do it for him.

No one here is expecting apologies from BWFC fans. We know it's not your fault...

The EFL need to get their act together with sniffing out batshit crazy owners. I mean, just look at your next prospective one on Sky Sports earlier today. Then read his Wiki page. He should have a Football Banning Order, not the key to the boardroom coke cabinet.

An Apology

Very true Banana. But what option do we have? Go out of existence? The whole game is corrupt and the EFL have a lot to answer for. Anyway, just thought I’d pop by and say something because, like I said, our club only tell staff they’re not needed via tweets. No fishing here, just a general feeling of absolute embarrassment for a club I’ve supported for decades.

Obviously no need for a fan like yourself to apologise.

BWFC will be back at this level one day, maybe not in its current incarnation but back nonetheless.

Good luck.

Kenout, I suspect fans have an alternative plan (Check out some of the other fan sites). I am sure they would love to share a beer and a game with you somewhere else

Good luck to the real Bolton fans. Horrible situation. I remember '67 and fans and players pulled together, would be nice if that evolves at "Burnden Park". Sorry havent a clue what new place is called.

Kenout, I think you personally should stand up and take sole responsibility for this entire fiasco; and I might add that no amount of grovelling apologies on here is going to put it right.:fishing:

What a nightmare for Bolton fans, what a shambles and certainly not for any fan to make apologies for the club. The staff and fans at that club have done nothing wrong, I have no problem with the stance the players have taken (but obviously feel for any Bees fans that had already made the trip).

I think all Bees fans will stand with Bolton fans on this.

Good luck against those POS owners. People like Anderson and Bazzini shouldn’t be allowed to run a lemonade stand, let alone a football club.

Well, we did before. Bolton struggling and came up with a fans rescue scheme called LIFELINE.
They then introduced it to Brentford (at Hounslow Civic Centre) with Nat Lofthouse introducing it.
300 Bees fans signed up on the night to pledge £10 a month, with about half of it given back in good prizes (cars/holidays).
The scheme helped Brentford survive.

Is it now the time for Bolton to re-invigorate the scheme?
With their history would hate to see them go on a downward spiral .......we so nearly did.

Us Bees fans will be forever grateful to have an owner (and fan) like Matthew!

Very true , but they tend to turn up when a club is on its knees ( no doubt looking to make a quick return by selling it on quick) and no other shining knight is on the horizon. This leaves the EFL in a no win situation as I am sure they would love to reject them as unfit etc. but what is the alternative, a liquidated historic old club?

As much as I hate to see what has happened today, I have a sympathy with the Players, staff and supporters of Bolton Wanderers. It has been made quite clear that the majority shareholder of this club is as much use to Bolton and football as an handbrake in a canoe.
Sad to see this happen wether it be any club involved.

You have our sympathies for what has happened to a once great club but perhaps the apology needs to come from the players rather than fans who can do diddly squat about it and who ate in no way to blame for the fiasco that has now ensued

I have great sympathy with the predicament Bolton find themselves having gone from one “ slippery” owner to tne next and it just goes to show how useless the “ fit and proper test” from tne EFL is, although I understand in actuality the test is purely does the owner have enough cash to buy the club. After the recent shenanigans you are going from one “ suspect” owner to another who has gone bankrupt more than once and who was banned from involvement in football by tne EFL. Perhaps it’s time to change the rules?!?

With regards to the strike by players I can understand their frustration and obviously within the law they can withdraw their labour, if however it is just them who have not been paid then my sympathies are somewhat abated as I have no doubt they have been well remunerated whist at the club. If however it is the back room staff, cleaners etc who have yet to be paid and the players are standing fast in support of them then fair enough.

This is one hell of a precedent and it is important ( unfortunately for Bolton fans) that the EFL take a tough stance as, cynic that I am if no real punishment takes place I can see this reoccurring in the future as a club tried to use it their advantage

Good luck for next season and I hope that I’m the fullness of time you can get back to being a proper club with proper owners ( something that occurred befor Gartside was involved )

I feel for the Bolton fans, used to be a proper, old club.
I work for a firm based in Bolton, many of the fellas there are die hard fans
who followed them in the lower divisions, it's sad times for these real supporters.

Thanks for the message mate, but there's no need for you or any other BWFC fan to apologise. I feel really sorry for genuine fans like yourself and I hope your club can sort out it's problems and get back to where it is now sooner rather than later.

......aside from the Garside 'plan' (which still sticks in the craw all these years later) I do feel sympathy for BW supporters - they've lurched from one financial crisis to another, from one snake oil salesman to the next, and here they are now, between a rock and a hard place viz a viz the present ownership changeover - do they want to keep with the guy who can't afford to pay the staff wages, or do they hope that this 'white knight' who previously had been banned from involvement in football comes to their rescue?

Frying pan and fire come to mind

Can anyone remind me why Swindon were relegated two divisions many years ago?
I wish the BW supporters well next season, no matter which tier they find their club in......

Nothing for the fans to apologise for.

We are very lucky that we have a fantastic owner. God knows where we’d be otherwise.

Hopefully, Bolton can get a sensible owner and the club can move forward.

Yes! To encourage the others. This is the latest in a line of clubs that spent beyond their means. There remain others still attempting to cheat by getting round financial fair play. They should be made an example of, and placed bottom of league two. They will then end up in the National League where they will go bust if they don’t before August. Sorry but that is how it is.

if anything, you should be proud of your players taking some decisive action against exploitative bosses. it's sad that its come to this, and i understamd that brentford are looking to do the right thing for people with tickets as much as they can.

best of luck with it all in the future mate, hopefully you can bounce back.

Surely this is why the financial restrictions on clubs were put in place not just for overspending to gain an advantage. If EFL enforced and tightened the rules it would be much less likely for this to happen and clubs would not feel the need to gerimander the figures over time.

Just out of interest, what DOES it take to fail the 'Fit and Proper' test, and has anyone ever failed it?......

An Apology

There is no such thing as a fit and proper test. All you have to do is prove you have funds to take over. Where those funds come from and whether you spend them are totally irrelevant

You basically have a financial criminal conviction that isn't spent or not currently be banned from owning a company. Nothing about the past, completely worthless.

An Apology

In reality there is little any football league body can do to prevent someone buying shares in a football club as they are independent businesses/ organisations and legal entities in their own right. The league may agree rules regarding club's participation in their competition but I would suggest they are quite limited when it comes to ownership.

It is easy to blame the FA/ EFL etc. but none of this is their doing or even their responsibility in reality, they run the competition not the clubs. All of this unholy mess lies with the people who own and run Bolton past and present. Even then when you look back at Anderson's early days in charge he was being welcomed by some fans and press as someone who was trying to put a failing club into some kind of financial stability with astute cost savings and getting the wage bill down.

My best wishes and hopes goes out to BWFC fans that their club will survive ( not certain yet I would suggest) and get back a level of normality, not sure the worst is over yet though.

An Apology

I stand corrected. Maybe i should have said there is no such thing as a fit and proper test that is worth the paper as you just tick a few boxes first with no real confirmation required. But the EFL then need to know you have the funds required at that time and see proof of such
