The question it leaves me asking is, how do we solve the experience conundrum?

Bjelland appears to have been important in Mepham’s development but while experienced defenders are expensive, experienced midfielders/ strikers generally cost a fortune.

Is the answer to offer recently retired players a route into coaching on lower wages while also potentially playing in the B team? Plucking a name out of thin air but would Deon Burton as a mentor help Maupay and Forss etc while also at late 30s (guess) helping out as cover in B team games.

Can Brentford get a coaching conveyor belt going in the same way as players or does coaching require the consistency of staff and vision that is difficult to establish with people moving through regularly?

Given how much thought goes into getting players thoroughly invested in the club’s philosophy and having the right skill set, and the experience of having MW and Marinus, I suspect the very last thing we’d do lightly would be to take on old pros to give them a year or two of experience coaching and to share their wisdom with the young lads. There may be players who fit that bill, but they’d need to be vetted as being consistent with all the stuff we want our players to believe in and buy into. And if they have those qualities we’d be looking to recruit them longer term or in a proper job once they’d got experience.

Good article but a tad harsh on Macleod and Judge. I dont think we need better, just may need them to stay injury free and up their performances?

an enjoyable and informative read, agree slightly harsh on Judge and McLeod as players who really need this season injury free to be given a real crack at first team football. Whether this happens or not with the abundance of talent we have in this area already remains to be seen.

Accurate assessment of the need to up the conversion of chances ratio. Do we have a visualisation coach to support the obvious technical qualities of the players. The big scorers have a kind of radar.

He lost me when he started going on about baggy, droopy, things (personal issues at home?), and upgrading Judge and MacLeod. We turning them into Robocops?

I agree with his assessment. If we are considering baggy as excess personnel in satisfied areas maybe we have one or two in MF that could go. Yes the talent is all over the park but guile to get it in the net was the weakest factor. Would like to read a similar one on a team like us for comparison.

Don't think Barbet will be starting personally and would guess it will be Konsa. Guess we'll find out on Saturday.
On that subject, anyone who's seen any of the pre-season games, what did you think of Konsa (if you saw him obviously)?

It would seem that way. Nothing very controversial, just a sensible review with a good dose of personal opinion. More interesting to a non-Bees fan, I'd say.

In short keeping the core of the squad together whom all will be more experience from another year with us. I felt our game management towards the latter end of the season improved considerably.

There wasn't too much I'd disagree with - other than the suggestion that Reece Cole is similar in style to Ryan Woods!?
