i would like to say that i love AJ, have known about him for a while - just didn't think he'd do so well! he's palace's only hope of staying up, so i hope he keeps it up!

yeh, but palace fans knew at the time that they'd done well there - i remember aj was a bit of a prospect at birmingham, but they got all big-for-their-shoes, right around the time morrison got a few goals. i don't think palace fans were too upset by the deal, and definitely not in hindsight :laugh:

Only to a certain extent IMO.
Unless Johnson can regularly score 10-15 goals in the Premier League, season after season, he can't really say he's made it.
Look at Michael Ricketts, he was banging them in for Bolton, played for England once and has now disappeared off the scale without a trace. You can't exactly say he made it can you?

I don't think Phillips was ever touted as a star in the same vein as someone like Michael Owen, more that he was just a very good player who could, and still can, perform a more than adequate job at the highest level.

ok ok - i suppose andy johnson would kill for a career that ended up like that. my point was just that there was a stage when phillips was regarded as one of the best in the prem, and now... i don't think anyone worries about him too much
