Andy Martin

Position: Forward Cost: 12lb
Height: 6' 0'' Weight: 10st
D.O.B: 28/02/1980 Place of Birth: Cardiff
Signed From: Forward Signing Date: 28/02/1997

Andrew is another striker who, whilst not perhaps getting the goals he would have wanted at the start of the season, always gave his best for the club. His two goals were both impressive headers, one coming, memorably for him, at The Valley on Boxing Day, when he rose above the Charlton defence to give the Eagles the lead. The other came at Molineux and, whilst being slightly less significant, was an equally courageous effort. If he can develop his eye for goal, there is no reason to suggest why Andrew should not play a bigger role in Palaces season next term.

According to Someone on the Beesotted message board we are signing him when he comes back from holiday.
Anyone else heard anything????????

Andy Martin

I've not heard anything - but we've been linked with him in the past. There was speculation that he would join us around the time that Gareth Graham did and also when Palace were in administration.

I didn't think he'd been released, so there would probably be a fee involved, which would surely mean no deal. Unless he's coming in part-exchange for someone else recommended to Bruce by Bully.

Is this the player that Ron says he's agreed that we can buy? I would be very angry if we're going around buying anything other than strikers, given that I think we currently have quality in depth in all other areas.

He does sound a bit lightweight though; 10st is very skinny for a six footer.

Andy Martin

He's not as lightweight as you might think Ed - in fact he's very good at holding up the ball.

His main strength as a striker is in the air with headers (perhaps you want him to go with those rumours about the type of football that Noades wants to play !!

He is still under contract - so yes there would be a fee and there's no reason why we should have to let him go on the cheap.

The suggested fee I've seen is 100k which would be fair, but as you have no money to spend (?) - then perhaps it might be a cash plus player deal involving Evans or Mahon ?

Just speculation that last bit - so don't worry too much at the moment

Alan, I was only going on the statistics posted above. Ten stone is ridiculously light for an adult male, especially one who stands six feet tall. But I believe what you say and now suspect that the stats may be inaccurate.

As for the fee, I wouldn't be too astonished if Ron surprised us and OK'd it. The player sale to finance it doesn't have to be to CPFC after all and nor does it have to be at precisely the same time.

Don't worry Ed - he's definitely not 10 stone !

If that's the case, then why are you called Bigbee? Or should a lady be asking this question!

that's right you keep telling the ladies that one...next up it will be "it's what you do with it, that matters"...

I know its Teamshite, but they are saying we have agreed a £50,000+apps for Martin and that we are now discussing personal terms. sounds hopeful even if the source is a bit dodgy. No smoke without fire etc. Plus they've quoted Ron - which they really shouldn't have done if he didn't say that!!! What do you all think? True or False?

Andy Martin

Well, quoting Ron is easy enough. In fact, given what he said in his interview on Tuesday, we know that we are signing someone. We all know what position we need - even Ron has admitted that - and Martin sounds like the right sort of player. £50,000 is pretty cheap (two thirds of a Lorenzo), but that doesn't mean he won't turn out to be the biz.

Andy Martin

My well informed Mole at Palarse assures me
a fee of £50,000 is agreed & terms are to be sorted out.

He doesn't expect the bloke to set Division Two alight next season but Coppell obviously sees something in him.

Andy Martin

I've seen Andrew play dozens of times from when he was in the youth side to last season when he was in the reserves.

For the last year or so I've held the opinion that he should have gone out on loan to a second divsion side for three months so we could judge him better, he didn't seem to be progressing in the reserves. I was never sure he was going to make it with us - although I've always thought he could possibly "do a job" at Div 2 level if given a good run out.

Good luck to him - he's a nice enough guy, although some people will tell you he's a bit big-headed and full of himself !!

He was never a first choice with Steve when he was managing Palace - but I guess he's working within his limit and division two is a different game to the first that might suit Andrew.

Word of warning - back him - but don't expect instant success, he's never been known as a prolific scorer of goals, especially with the ball at his feet - but he is quite mobile in the air (and of course he scored against Charlton a couple of seasons ago which will always make him a bit popular at Palace !).

I'll certainly be watching him pre-season with interest to see how he gells with the rest of the Bees side.

Andy Martin

yes its true, mate at palace says its £50k and that its a done deal

You're right Bigbee, I am truly sorry for wanting a centre forward who will score goals - apologies accepted ?

I'm Palace and have seen this lad in action, I've mentioned it in another thread but he is ok. The goal the thread starter describes against Charlton (although good as I hate them gyp0, glory hunting, loser, neutral, anorak tw@ts) was a header where the sun was blazing in Charlton players and keepers eye's and he is a little lightweight indeed and has a terrible haircut and doesn't seen too tall i thought he was smaller than 6 ft as he doesn't really use his height due to his lack of power. But I feel he was blooded too early (as in admin we had no choice) and this doesn't work for many players and I feel he may develope in a lower division and wish him good luck. As far as I know he is under contract but I'm sure it would be a minimal fee even Noades would cough up. We have the problem where we have a squad almost in excess of 40! However it isn;t very srtong in the fact that many youngsters were given pro contracts who will not make the grade but were needed for cover when we were in admin. We will sell many youngsters who we believe will not be good enough OR will not develop whilst at the club (martin?) but may have a future even a good future if we let them go for their own good? Should we loan them out for this well maybe but we need to ship out alot of youngsters who wont hack it or who are currently not needed, its unfair too keep them BUT our youth system is good so surely he is a player with potential?

GOOD LUCK

Andy Martin

Is he coming to play for us or what ?! This seems to have been dragging on for ages now. What does the geezer want ? blood !
