Andy Scott

Andy Scott

Well he has signed a 5 year contract

Having never met Mr Scott, but judging from the comments of those who have (WEB for example) and AS's consistent performances in the media it is my opinion that he is one of "good guys". We are lucky to have such an intelligent and articulate manager that is a credit to himself and the club. His personal integrity is probably increased by his near miss with his condition and he must hold a special place for BFC from his playing days and the confidence shown in him by the club.
He will manage at a higher level but I can't see him abandoning us at the first offer that comes along and he will want to finish what he has started at BFC. As he is young he can afford to build his reputation slowly and hopefully we will benefit along the way.

Andy Scott

There was a rumour going around Spotland that he was Brighton bound.

Can't see that happening! Why leave a club who could be on the verge of promotion to join a club on the verge of possible relegation?

It came from a very reliable source, well sort of. KetteringBee and I started a rumour that Poole was off to Peterboro at Gillingham and it got onto the GPG. We planned to start one about Scott to Brighton but forgot or got wrapped up in an enthralling game so I decided to start it on here.

Andy Scott

If you saw a recent interview...he said he would like to manage at a higher level....but only with the Bees...ok...move on....

hilarious

After we've won promotion this year, there is no question that Scott will become a target for bigger clubs and Brentford will find the financial inducements difficult to resist - more's the pity.

But we shouldn't worry about it, I'm sure you're not by the way. I'm sort of just enjoying the moment. After the crap we've been served up for a few seasons, I'm sort of on a high with the recent Shrewsbury and Rochdale performances. Brentford win in big game shockers, it's been a long time and at this moment in time AS's future is of no interest to me.

He hasn't won anything yet, but assuming we do go up he'll be a target for other clubs. The way they will look at him is if he can achieve promotion on the budget he was given whilst at the same time playing attractive football what could be do with a sizeable transfer budget ?

Andy Scott

Hope the article does Scotty justice, i wrote it after reading an interview with Scott in TITS about positive publicity for the club and thought i would do my bit, hope you like.

Maybe a couple of years ago but most 'bigger' clubs would rather go for a foreign coach or a failed 'big' name these days. After the recent failures of Paul Ince &, to an extent, Martin Allen I think you may need more than a promotion from division 4 to get yourself an upward move. Bear in mind that promotion this season means that bigger clubs next season are likely to be championship standard, personally I think we can rest easy for the time being.

Andy Scott

Day out by the sea, few goes in the arcade and a doughnut on the pier...why not ?

 He could come to Weymouth then.

Oh bother I have just remembered he is not a millionaire..

Andy Scott

if the god of griffin park does get us promoted he will end up in the championship managing a team like ipswich. good luck to the fella he deserves a medal for what he has done on sod all money..

Andy Scott

I don't go to away games (work till 0430 Sat) but I was well chuffed with both the result and the comments about the performance. AS has been well backed by the Club and is paying it back in spades. Like many others I was surprised at him being given a chance as he was Butcher's no 2 but you can't argue with results. He certainly sets his team up to perform in the 6 pointers-more of the same v Bury please!

Andy Scott

I think it's too soon for a club like Charlton to take a chance on Andy. He's not glamourous enough for QPR. If he takes us up and we are top six this time next year, then there will be a championship club that will consider him: Forest, Coventry. The board need to make sure he is properly rewarded if he gets us promoted.

Andy Scott

at this moment in time AS's future is of no interest to me.

Exactly. And if he did jump sticks right now then that would tell you all you need to know about him. I'm sure that's not the case and he will see this season out at least as he is close to getting something very good on his CV.

One thing is certain, in the next two years or so Andy will either leave Brentford due to his sucess or get the bullet due to poor results, it's a fact of life in football.

Andy Scott

Why cant he be like Mr Angry Ferguson ?? He could still be with us in 20 years when we are in the premiership.

Andy Scott

I hold my hands up and say that I was one who was skeptical about his original appointment. I was also one of those who was shocked by the award of a five year contract.

However, I am delighted that he has proved his detractors wrong. Now instead of worrying about his appointment I am a little concerned that eventually he might be tempted away. Whatever the final outcome this season he has done a very good job to date. For sometime I have been convinced that we will be promoted and now we are in the driving seat to win the league. Obviously other clubs will be looking at him, but that's only to be expected considering the job he has done.

Andy Scott

I think I'd prefer our manager to be associated with vacancies at other clubs rather than our manager associated with a potential vacancy at ours.

Andy Scott

I personally believe that he will serve his apprenticeship with us for a few years as I think he has a genuine affection and desire to help move the club up.

As someone has said AS is young and has years ahead of him. I think he will reward the boards faith and backing of him by giving us a fair stint of his time.

As NB put it I'm just enjoying the ride right now and the sense of stability that seems to surround our club on and off the pitch for the first time in ages.

That decision to give a five year contract turned out to be a stroke of genius, but it was also wrong. Someone should pay for such a reckless decision.
:thetruth:

Andy Scott

I suspect that AS would go if made an offer he can't refuse, but that these are few and far between for a young and untried manager who spent most of his playing career in the lower divisions. While the Bees are still on an upward trajectory he'd be best served in his career to stick with us. It would only be if he was still performing but came to the conclusion that he'd taken Brentford as far as it could go on the resources available that it would be worth moving (no point in squandering his 09 L2 championship with a couple of seasons of lower mid-table L1). If there's annual progression of the club and continued support for the next attainable improvement there'd be little reason to move. No point in getting a Championship or Premiership gig which would be likely to lead to a sacking after a couple of months if it didn't work out and then find himself as an unemployed 39 year old without enough experience to be a shoe-in for another entry level lower level appointment.

Excellent and I thought it read very well.

Well done and thanks for that.

AS has spoken out against managers moving upwards too quickly re: Ince(Can't remember where I saw that interview thought).
For him to move, we would have to be in league one, bouncing around midtable for a season or two, and a lg1 team with a bigger budget (Leeds-style) come in for him.

Good, well informed article. Nice one.

Andy Scott

Good article but wouldn't say we've shown faith in him, he saved us from relegation with a mainly crap team then gets us to the top of the league. Not saying we wouldn't do but he's done a great job since being appointed as manager

The faith came in the form of a 5 year contract!

Andy Scott

I would, his involvement in the Butcher era would have meant curtains at most other clubs. Major faith was shown and so far it's justified.
What I'm looking forward to seeing:

Getting AS to extend his deal to a further 5 years early as we battle to preserve our 6 point lead at the top of the Championship having refused to sell either of our 30 goals a season strike pair of Rhodes and MacDonald!

Fair point, but would be usual for a number 2 to become manager at league 2 level to take over as caretaker, where he did well.

Andy Scott

If he goes he goes..eventually..its the price of success.

Is our youth team manager not a replacement in waiting?

Too many mangers move on too quickly though as the likes of Ince, MA and many others have found out.

I remember Cotterill being the next best thing/young English manager after doing well at Cheltenham. He never really achieved the same heights again and has spent more time unemployed than as a manager since.

Strangely most managers only really do well at one club, it is very unusual for someone like Coppell to do well at several. My guess is AS knows he is onto a good thing with BFC at the moment and will pick his next move with great care and at the right time. One wrong move and his career could be at end before he is 40.

Andy Scott

This thread is a joke.

Andy's going no where, and will be with us when we win the league, and will be with us when we kick our league one campaign next season. FACT>

Andy Scott is too good looking, to go to Brighton....:)

You seem to know a lot about Brighton :suspect:

I was sceptical about the 5 year contract because of the length of time on it and how much it would cost the club if it had all gone tits up. Again. We got through how many managers in 4 years?

In my opinion the club have got it right this time. Yes I want us to keep Andy Scott when we go up. I think Andy might actually stay with us for at least one season in League 1. In might be that he sees out three or four of the years in his contract until he gets the bullet for not getting us in to the Championship or another club lures him away.

Who would he manage after Bees? Depends if Andy wants to stay close to London. Charlton is worth a bet. Swinedon maybe? Reading if Steve Coppell decides that he really has had enough of being manager of a yo-yo team. Mate of mine reckons he could work wonders at Newcastle. I don't think Andy wants that sort of hassle though.

crackin job loyalbee - reads very well - short snappy paragraphs, you make your point and then move on - no waffling - good stuff :sorted:

there's possibly a couple of bits where you could've rephrased things a little simpler, but
repetition of "surreal" in the second pgph jarred slightly...
and a couple of typos/errors - "manger" and "it's" (seen this lately on the GPG a few times - it is only ever "it's" if it's short for "it is" or "it has"... otherwise, it'll be "its" :sorted: )

Andy Scott

Seem to remember when he signed the contract there were rumoursabout possible clauses etc that may have saved the club money if it all went pete tong...
