Scott has done a great job for us and it would be totally rash to sack him now.
He's a good record at Brentford and has proved in the past that he is a fast learner and turns things around.
We've had runs like this before in his tenure, the difference this time is that it's the start of the season and we're exposed at the bottom of the table.

He needs a bit of time to sort it out and my bet says he will.

This ain't a crisis yet...... Any calls for his head now are premature.

You can't have it both ways though. Perhaps the reason Scott's shouting at the players so much is because they're not doing the things he wants. The players have to take some level of responsibility for their actions on the pitch - they're not machines who are only programmed to play one way.

If your not happy at work you won't perform as well either, its not losing that gets me upset, it's the way we play, it some of the worst football down their for ages. Maybe the football under Butcher, Leroy, Wally etc wasn't good either, but these are so called better players.

Uefa A licence. Wasting your time using that stick

I wasn't looking for a stick, there's enough beaters on here!

I was just wondering like.
I know you need a certain level for the Prem, I don't know what you need to manage in League One.

Ha ha, i only knew cos i read it in Poyet's notes on Tuesday !

I actually think that teams play 5 in midfield with one dropping when defending and cutting ball to feet passes to our front two, it leaves us with marked up wingers and only an aerial ball to two blokes who prefer it on the deck. The midfield dropper for them becomes an attacking midfielder when the go forward, it looks simple to me but how you overcome it, I and AS don't really know.

You can always go 4-5-1 when you've lost the ball and match them up. Having got possession you can always go 3-5-2 or 3-4-3. But that requires a bit of patience on the ball initially. I'd like to see us push Spillane into midfield when in possession and give someone to licence to push forward [ Adams] to make it 3-4-3.

Perfectly valid point but then that questions why cant he get his message across during the week leading up to the game. Is it not clear or are the team just shrugging and say lets do it our way?? Either way that is an inditement of any managers skills.

Regarding the vitriol poured on Scott I have not and will not join in however I guess the memory of sailing close to non league football under Butcher is still an open wound and the real fear that despite the budget etc we could struggle this season to avoid the drop is a worry to all fans.

My opinion, for what its worth, is that I have not been attracted to his style of play but acknowledge it has been succesful, if i beleived he could change the style, and saw some evidence of that, then I would be patient however there is little evidence and his comments re tippy tappy football lead me to beleive that this is Scotts way and thats the way it must be.

Done the 50 plus years home and away, seen it, done it and worn the tee shirt and have seen us in this position before, if no changes are made then the same result will be acheived be it personnel or system. Scott does not seem to want to change, transfer window closed, Scott has not seen any suitable loan players. Therefore the only thing left to change is the manager. Whether that is right or wrong will be determined by History.

This is a good point,l find it strange that we have thousands of posts critical of Scott and very few critical of the players. That said like many l might have questioned the length of contracts given out,Forster for one,but was happy with all the new signings that most came with good reports from their former clubs fans. This does lead me back to AS,why are the players not producing the form they must have been showing at their former clubs. You would have thought these players have been dumped onto him, other than players who AS has told us were"on his radar for a long time"ect.

Do you not consider it strange that so many aren't producing? Maybe it's AS who isn't producing ? What you're saying is a bit like they're all marching out of step except me.

That is what l'm saying,it appears that their former managers got more out of them than AS can.

I am as critical of them. The results so far tell me that the players are more motivated for some matches than others, and (whether deliberately or not) are undermining Scott with their actions.

But unlike the Capello/England team situation, I do not fully blame the players. Part of me wonders if AS is able to work with the players effectively.

You have made a good point but certainly v Hartlepool ( and quite a few other games by all accounts ) the system and method was unchanged for 90 minutes.Surely this must be down to the manager not the players

.

I think you are missing the point, the players have performed in games where the opposition have allowed us room and space, they have performed badly in games where we had to break down teams and actually have to earn the right to boss the game.
I don't buy into this "they only perform when the stage is big", I think they want what we want and want it badly, the Drifters haven't changed things in games that we are not bossing or looking dangerous in. The problems lie off the pitch even though I don't think we are as good as I thought we would be.

Agreed. Most conference teams could come and take a point off us at the moment if they watched a couple of tapes of our previous games. If Charlton come to attack tomorrow, we can win. If they've done a little bit of homework, it's another 0-0 or 0-1.

Andy Scott

Cullis referred to it as kick and rush I believe.

I don't recall that and it doesn't reflect their play at the time. The only occasion I have seen kick and rush deployed with impact was in the kickabouts I used to have in the park with 25 a side! Maybe we need more players on the pitch.

I have no stars to my name but I can still cook, you know what it tastes pretty good normally.
I've never and even thought about doing a book but somehow it's going to happen, I've read one book in my life and learnt along the way with massive help and brilliant advice from people who had published stuff in the past. At no point have I sad "It's my way or the highway" to any advice offered, small things like not to get more than one person editing the stuff as people all have different ways of using grammar, words and even capital letters at times. You have to listen to learn.:D

Indeed and if they've all got coaching badges, why are so many of them crap?

Can we update The Poll.
If anyone wants to change their mind, then The Poll should allow it.

Putting his mug in the shop window......eh:confused:

Against Hartlepool in particular both wingers had a very poor game, regardless of the tactics. Weston had a number of opportunities to test the full back and failed on each occasion. that was nothing to do with tactics, it was just bad play.

That doesn't excuse any lack of flexibility in Scott's tactics though and I agree that a good manager should be looking to change when it's evident that something is working. However, when you looked at our bench that day, pretty much every replacement we could have been made would have been like for like.

Andy Scott

Wise can feck off! Was only any good at Swindon and Leeds because Poyet was his number 2

Andy Scott

Is it me or are there some posters on here , who seem to get more pleasure out of Andy Scott (and by default Brentford) losing than they get out of AS/Brentford winning......

Just reading the "Andy Scott out" thread from last year, which was closed off after he sadly (for some) got us to 9th place, now getting deja vu with this one.

What has he done to people, for them to tell him to "F**k off" or one guy wanting to go to GP on sat just to boo him. At the Hartlepool match during the 1st half a bloke a few rows behind me was telling his mate that he hoped AS would have the same fate as Marc Vivien Foe just so "we" can get a new manger

Maybe i'm naive, so can someone explain the hatred to me please?

I've got a season ticket and go to as many away games as i can but i haven't seen anything for me to hate the man...dissapointed sure..but not hate.

AS much as I disaprove of AS as manager, I wouldn't go to the extent of paying £20 just to boo him.Asis well known on here, I have allways been anti Scott since theday he was appointed manager. However, in saying that I'd still like him to succeed in turning things around for us. Problem is, I cant see that happening as I think he is far too rigid in his methods. On paper we have some very good players who I think are a match for anyone on this division. This is why I feel a different manager (Dean Holdsworth for example) would inject a different aspect of how to play football.as in training methods.
Rightly or wrongly, that is just my opinion.

It's true, just got a phone call mate:sorted:
I think he could be on some sort of garden leave/compensation thing with
Newcastle which stop[s him from working. Lets wait and see eh !!

He was on reportedly 1 mill a year at Newcastle, think his compensation would be sorted by now .Would do for me,the way we are playing he would get a game to.

if anybody wants to start another poll for "most stupid, rediculous and brainless post of the month", this one gets my vote!

No offense shouldbee, I am sure in hindsight you realise what a daft thing to say that was.... AS saved us from relgation and won the championship in just over a year...................................

does that really count for nothing now that we have had a bad start to the season?

I can understand how people may want a change but I just dont get this animosity towards him.... FFS chaps, wally downes and rosenior got more empathy than AS and they never achieved anything!!!!

ShouldBee is partly right. I believe that when we won the 2nd division as champions,Scott did get congratulated by several manageres, but there was no response from Butcher. I remember that because it was mentioned at the time.So as I said there wassome truth in what ShouldBee said.

How about about a poll for the worst spelling mistake of the month - "rediculous" ;)

Do hope this is wrong. I can't see what Wise would bring to Brentford. As much as I am loosing faith with Andy Scotts tactics and style of play. If he has to be replaced, and as every game goes at the moment it seems more likely. There has to be better candidates out there than Wise. Just my opinion. Anyone else feel the same.

Wise cut me up in Chiswick a few years ago when I was on my motorcycle. We had a lengthy discussion about the incident which has led me to not wanting him anywhere near BFC thanks.

Andy Scott

Every time someone mentions AS's inflexibility tactically, I remember the way in which he totally changed the tactics when he took over from Butcher. suddenly, we were playing the ball on the gorund, Connell was playing like an old-fashioed inside forward and running onto little balls dinked through the defence, usualy by Poole. It didn't always win, but it could be a lot of fun to watch.

Nesxt season, he brought in new players, changed the tactics and won the title.

So he's not as rigid and tactically unaware as people say... in addition, Bullivant has a wealth of experience as a coach. I doubt that he AS would ignore any changes TB made just to be arrogant.
