Another Premiership ripoff

News today that Southampton are about to sell Fitz Hall, signed last year from Oldham for £250,000 to Palace for £1.5m. So how has a year in Southampton's reserves managed to multiply his market value by a factor of 6?

It seems to me that Premiership clubs can cherrypick lower league talent at knock down prices with very little risk and the prospect of a hefty profit. To their credit Southampton are one of the few top clubs who are willing buy British players (eg Brett Ormerod and our own Smithy) so I guess it's a buyer's market. Anyway, I hope Oldham insisted on a sell-on clause.

I'm just worried that it's unlikely that we'll get adequately rewarded for Jay Tabb when the bigger clubs wake up to his talent.

The irony here being that Ian Dowie was the Oldham manager when selling him and now the CP manager when buying him

Oldham were stuffed financially at the time though and therefore their hand was forced into agreeing the fee.....so typically the Premiership sides were able to pick at the bones again like vultures.

Now that Niemi is staying at Saints, you can be pretty sure the same thing will happen with Paul Smith.
