Maybe HMRC could now go and pursue Vodaphone / Goldman Sachs for the £8 Million this fiasco has cost (Nope, can not do that cos those 2 companies have already been let away with Billions)

:imwith:

The equivalent here have been pursuing Crocodile Dundee for years and seem to love nothing more than high profile failure.

If they gave the money to you in this Country for work done here then it would be taxable

If you earnt the money outside of the UK and it was paid outside of the UK it is my understanding (And the Jury today perhaps) that it only becomes taxable if you bring the funds into the UK.

Also, if someone GAVE you 250k as a gift, it would only be taxable if the person died prior to 7 years of the gift date maturing - If they die before the 7 year date then the Gift is taxable on a pro rata basis (Which I have no idea how to calculate) - I think the period is 7 years, someone will no doubt correct if wrong.

I have no problem at all with todays verdict or the verdict on Storrie/Mandaric last October if based on same facts as Arry's case.

Very handy really.

Employ a football manager. Pay him say £500k pa in the UK - just enough for him to get by on. Gift him £1.5m each year into a Monaco bank account (or even a UK account as it's a gift). Saves a fair bit of tax/ni.

Easy peasy.

Good morning - I am your HMRC Inspector. We have a case here that will cost us £8,000.000.00 before it gets to Court but the upside is we may recover about £40k of unpaid tax from a "Name" - The "Name" has a history of paying his taxes and has paid in excess of £8,000.000.00 in tax during his working life. The chap we shall be persuing with the "Name" was tried for the same type of thing back in October but we lost that one. We are hoping for better this time.

This country is not broke - It just Pis*** money away on stupid things.

Good post Paul.

The cost of enforcing the law doesn`t come into it. If the CPS saw it in the publics interest after assessing the evidence from the HMRC, then the CPS should ask arry to answer the charges.

The thought of arry being England manager feels me with disgust. He`s a greedy bastard who put money off shore, wish I could do instead of PAYE.

Everybody knows this all stinks. Mandaric asking for the money back as it was a loan etc. Putting in his dogs name as an alias etc.

Are you saying that a worker that has paid tax all his life deserves a tax holiday on any off-shore stash?

Agree but still question The waste of taxpayers money. Harry was never going to be found guilty but the FA shouldn't touch him because it doesn't send a good message to The world.

I have an 'off-shore', that is not in the UK, bank account but that is not the point; the question is "has any income from UK earnings avoided UK tax?"; he could avoid tax and buy Premium Bonds with the cash, for example, or buy a car abroad and drive it back to England. ;) The revenue and CPS failed to establish the facts as given in defence; if they could not show any money had avoided tax, then the prosecution was wasted. Just having money does not mean you avoided tax on it.
