Atlantic Cup

Apologies if this has already been mentioned. Saw the below on Twitter which I assume relates to the B team.

Atlantic Cup

We don’t have any league fixtures from 22nd Jan-9th Feb so we may see some first team players?

Atlantic Cup

Games looking between 4th and 11th february, city and palace being two games which collide with timings. Must be the B team

Nothing about us or FC Zenit on the official website?

EDIT This looks more hopeful but now confused!

Atlantic Cup

Suspect we are the TBC team as the rest of the teams line-up with the Zenit news story

Atlantic Cup

Very strange. Clubs only play 2 matches in the group stages, which is congruent with what happened in previous incarnations of this tournament

Atlantic Cup

And if TBC is us then fixtures are 4th Feb, 8th Feb and possibly 11th Feb too.

FA cup will be one weekend in there. Interesting as wont be able to call upon B teamers for that if we get through

We don't want to play B Team players in first team matches. Otherwise they become "experienced" if we have another COVID outbreak and will have to play them against (say) Manchester City with 1 GK and 8 first team and 3 kids that played in the FA Cup.

Covid aside, the intention is to have as many B teamers playing first team minutes (on merit) though isn’t it? Or does the premier league squad restrictions change things?

Atlantic Cup

Four games against ourselves in a single day? That's madness...
Can't do it, Farls wouldn't have a voice left by half time of game two, even with Sam "I'm Not Here Just To Put Cones Out" Saunders coaching the other XI.

FA are forcing prem teams to play a team even if it requires academy players?

Atlantic Cup

Its all about "1st team experience"

We dont have an academy.

For premier league yes but this doesn't apply to FA cup. I use term academy as mentioned in article but its the same as our B team. Point is, if we got into 4th round and we had Covid outbreak, our B team would be out in Portugal. Not referring this to league games here. It just an interesting point

Atlantic Cup

.............yep............ waiting for the boat details...................

Atlantic Cup

It's a Brentford XI, not the B Team...
Probably just the competition stating that for reasons of prestige, the club must be billed as "Brentford" and so, internally, the OS has compromised on "Brentford XI".

Atlantic Cup

The Atlantic Cup website says Brentford B but we shall presumably include some returning/new first-teamers within the group. Playing Breiđablik UBK, Brondby and Halmstads BK 3rd-11th Feb.

Sounds like there may be a few trialists heading over there. First team players, I'd imagine, MPH, Fosu, Racic (if he's still with us), JDS, maybe even Jeanvier/Goode depending on where they are fitness wise? Would have thought Stevens too normally but with Thompson going out on loan we'll prob hang onto him for the first team squad in case. (unless we get someone else in over the next couple of days). Wonder whether there may be a couple of B team additions before close of play Monday?

Do we need to buy bteam players within the window?

Atlantic Cup

Do we need to buy bteam players within the window?
If you mean, are we restricted to buying them in the window, then, only if we want them to have some involvement in first team games going forward. Presumably we can buy them outside the window, they just couldn't play any part in PL squads (and probably cup though not so sure about that. Sure someone will confirm one way or another).

Or, if you mean, do we need any players for the B team squad in general, then it kind of depends. Where do we see the future of the likes of Oksanen, Gilbert, Mogensen. Will Gordon step up into the first team squad if we don't bring another LB in? We currently only have one striker in NYC so wouldn't be surprised to see another striker come in, unless Mogensen is close to a return which doesn't seem likely at the mo. Oksanen wasn't in the squad last week so wouldn't be surprised to see him go elsewhere. Sounds like we're trialing a few players both in a BCD game last week and in portugal, so will be interesting to see where they play. We know one is a box to box midfielder though!

Atlantic Cup

This tournament has popped up at exactly the right time for us to get some minutes for our players lacking match fitness. I suspect our 20 at Arsenal will be a lot different to the ones fielded at Xmas.

Atlantic Cup

Anyone know if the games are being streamed on YouTube etc?
