Attendances

You are all comitted to the Bees? You all want to see them do well and thrive? You all want to see bigger attendances? In the short time that I have been coming to Griffin Park I have already dragged another person along (who supports another team) and am hoping to drag a few more people along. With some lip service, maybe one or two of them will keep coming back. Now, if you all just brought/converted one more friend (if you have one that is), what a difference it could make. Worth it just fot snatches of the immigrant song!

Attendances

I swear there's like 50 threads about attendence

Not trying to dampen your enthusiasm or anything but I think the problem is, Rosie, those of us who have been going to GP for 20/30 years or more have long since exhausted our contacts book of potential Bees converts. The difficulty is not so much getting somebody to come along once or twice on an occasional basis but more how that is transformed into sustained support going forward.

Two mates I got season tickets with only came cos I brought them with me and that was couple of years ago and they still go now :sorted:

Im sure most bees have tried this, and can only work if the friends they bring along are watchin good football and a team thats performing well over last couple seasons its been hard to get people to come along, but now we look like we are on the up should be easier, i live in lingfield surrey where im sorrounded by so called man u liverpool chelsea fans, managed to convert 5 fully committed bees fans, and looks like i got a couple more :)

Attendances

im bringing 3 of my mates to the notts county game =]
there all glorly hunters tho, they support arsenal, cheslea and man u.
but hopefully i can convert them =]

I am bringing one mate to the Notts county game, he supports arsenal, cheslea and man u.

Can you guess who it is yet? :fishing:

Is it Griffin ? Glory Hunter.

Absolutely bang on, i had people fighting each other to come when we were in the FA Cup 5th round and on a promotion charge, they've always had something else on when i've asked them over the last 18 months

I don't blame them, that's the way it is, i found it hard to attend at points if i'm honest

But they will be back, the better we are.......the more people will wanna come and watch, especially if we are playing the sexy football also :brow:

Attendances

i've brought in one new season ticket holder (a few years ago), and a couple of potential regualr-ish extras recently... but like everyone says, we all only know so many people, and if you bring them and it's crap (eg the last couple of friends i brought, there was absolutely NO FOOD whatsoever at the ealing road end, and the football wasn't any good either), then it's hard to get them to come again.

still trying tho, as i'm sure are most bees fans.

Attendances

 good guess though.

Next clue, he is taller and smellier than Griffin and whinges more.

if it's who I think it is, can the picture be resurrected once again of you two in finest Paddock glory :sorted:

And here I was thinking Brentford was a nice family club ;)

On the topic though, most of my mates either don't like football much or would only consider coming as a one off and teh likely baulk at the price

Now that I don’t work in retail I’ll definitely be coming a lot more. For the past 3 years I’ve only managed to get 4-8 games per season… Working weekends is just not on :nono:

Can't make tonight but will be at Mansfiled on Saturday (weather permitting)

Quiet afternoon, so with the last two home games coming up looked at big attendances in the three decades since the '78 promotion. Hope no mistakes:

What's the capacity for Luton? Is it the full 12,763 ?

Assuming it's near this capacity figure, then we must be on target for a record since knocking down the Royal Oak and something like the 6th largest in the past 30 years ? :sorted:

What was the QPR attendance last time they were where they belong?

What about the Southampton FA Cup replay?!?

Attendances

11720 southampton

11698 sunderland

Attendances

2001-02
Reading 11303
Huddersfield 11191

I think SH has been pretty thorough with the accuracy of his attendances quoted.

i would think that the segregation needed v Luton will push the gate below 11500 IMO

This issue really annoys me. Why is further segregation needed when Luton fans will be in a completely enclosed and fully segregated stand? :nono:

Lets get hate corner filled right up to the corner and get a proper full house in.

IWhat I don't understand is the Brook Road end is totally self-enclosed, so surely it's only that one (A) block of the New Road stand that will have to be cordoned off?

Why not shove a load of Old Bill in the corner between the two stands, there's going to be plenty of them about that day.

Why not rip out the New Road seats, get a load more in then.. :sorted:

Is the "capacity" figure really 12,763 in practice then? Logically, a full-house requires that the away team sells all 1,600 away tickets for the Wendy House, which presumably pushes up the "segregation" requirement. This obviously then reduces the Bees allocation. Is it to do with % of tickets required for oppo fans or am I just:confused:

For those wanting a trip down memory lane, here's the list of 10,000+ attendances since the glory days of McCulloch, McNichol & Co. Wanderer Paul, please add if I've missed any:

Was there really less than 10k official against Newport?

Supposedly "8214" on 17-May-85. Not sure where the other 4,000 would have gone to get to capacity:nono:

Probably almost as accurate as the "8972" at the 3-3 Christmas home game vs. Newport in 77/78.

A question for Abee here.
Current average attendance is 5416, let's call that 5500 by the end of the season.
What was the forecasted average attendance in the budget (I seem to remember 4500, not sure why)? What financial difference has there been between forecasted and actual income from attendance? If we have exceeded expectations (as I guess), how will/has this money been used, and what difference will it make to the overall deficit from this season?
It's good to get a grasp of how good performances = bigger crowds = more money!
Thanks!

I think the potential increased attendences from being top of the league would have been considered when they increased the playing budget in January.

4250 was the figure IIRC.

The capacity would have been a lot higher than 12,000 then - the ground had a very different configuration with the Royal Oak, the deeper New Road and, of course, seats only in the Braemar upper tier. A few months later, following Heysal and the Bradford fire much stricter safety restrictions briefly slashed the capacity as low, I think, as 5,000 at one stage, but at the time of the Newport game it was probably officially 20,000 plus.

It would have been slightly cavalier to base playing budget increase on future attendances? There was no guarantee we would be top of the league or in the mix, hence the higher figures?
Hopefully Abee will be able to answer this one!

The forecast average was 4225 paying supporters including season ticket monies i.e. an average of 2,225 paying on the day including away support. The attendance figures released include comps and therefore I operate on the actual cash receipts. Today for example there was the best part of one thousand comps for the St George promotion and as part of their sponsorship deal. The announced attendance was 7,135 (92 away) of which there were maybe 4,200 paying at the gate.
Unless you know the actual breakdown of the gate you cannot put together your own numbers. All surplus income has gone to reducing both the overdraft and the budgeted loss and I expect the overdraft as at the end of the financial year May 31 2009 to be the lowest season end figure for quite some time which provides a cushion for the summer and for next seasons campaign. It's really only from the Bury match onwards that revenue has picked up and been consistently above the budget and having 'benchmarked' some of the earlier matches the last dozen or so home matches have been forecast by revenue on a match by match basis.

Cheers abee.
Good to know that it's going into controlling debt - long term stability is a priority.
Surprised we give away as many comps AND that they are taken up!

They made it hard work getting a ticket after today's game. I saw the queue and it didn't seem to move. I got my Darlo tickets and left. I'll have to wait and see whether it's worth making the extra effort to move things towards a full house for Luton.
