Australia Ashes squad

Brad Haddin returns as vice captain and first choice keeper/batsman.

35 year old Chris Rogers is picked despite having only played one test and that was back in 2008. James Faulkner is the only uncapped player in the squad.

Mitchell Johnson is dropped. Ryan Harris returns.

As expected, nothing much to worry me in that squad although I think Rogers is a smart selection given his experience of English conditions.

agree on Rogers, Haddin's a weird one, and yes they could pick 16 actual kangaroos for all i care, they will be "competitive" sure but we should be better

Sounded like it was between Marsh and Rogers for that last batting spot, guess Rogers County experience got him the nod.

Bowling attack of Harris, Pattinson, Starc and Lyon actually looks quite decent.

must've been a phenomenal comedy moment to be in the stadium for :cool:

Pleased to see that Phil Hughes is in the squad, a player almost as talented as Ravi Bopara. Lets hope he keeps Rogers out of the side.

Ryan Harris is already doubtful. The Aussies keep banging on about ther bowlers, but as far as I can see they are all very injury-prone and very short on experience. The squad really doesn't strike much fear into you and the biggest danger is going to be complacency.

The bowler who is short on experience but could still do the business for them is Jackson Bird. I assume his recovery from stress fractures is proceeding satisfactorily but given their enthusiasm for the injury-prone Harris, who knows?

I believe Rogers has a first-class average in England of over 50, so is probably a good selection.

Reported in the paper down here today that Pietersen will not play against New Zealand in the Test matches and in fact won't play any cricket until mid June?

Yep he's been ruled out of the Champions Trophy, there is talk of him playing for Somerset in the tour match against Australia to get some cricket before the Ashes.
