John Salako wanted to run straight off at the end. It seemed as if MA had to persuade him to go back out with the rest of the team. JS had a face like thunder. Also Sam didn't look too happy at the end either. He applauded the fans, but didn't do his usual run over to the Brook Rd. Any ideas what this was all about?

Hacked off because they knew as well as we knew that they should have won it by a country mile, but instead they've not done the job.

Salako and Burton are always (well sometimes) trying to sneak off at the final whistle......

I saw Salako get an almighty b***ocking from Nelso after the cross for the second goal. I think he was a bit shocked but to be honest Nelson was right, Salako was too casual after comming on and got too far goalside on their crossing player and gave him a free ball in to the box. The header was top class IMHO.

I think Salako felt bad about his mistake.

I was a bit surprised by that, not really constructive criticism, just one heck of a telling off

i thought nelson went way over the top to be honest having a right go at salako after their second goal!

i do think js should have done more to stop the cross but he made salako look stupid which imo is not on! that kind of reaction is not going to help any body.

i wonder how he would feel if salako came and gave him a right bollicking for all to see if he drop a clanger (it's not as if he's never made a mistake is it?)

nelson i think you owe js an apology,we need to help and encourage each other, there's no need for that kind of rubbish! :nono: :nono:

b***ocks.

can fully understand all our players, it wasn't just nelson, being disappointed when someone who is not tuned in lets the side down.

why should Salako be immune from a b***ocking by the keeper - defences across the country get screamed at by their goalkeepers week in week out, why should he be an exception...?

Exactly...it shows they care and are as gutted as we fans are....

Completely disagree.

Allott had miles of space to run in to and had too much time to pick out a cross.

If he had been under even the slightest amount of pressure I don't think they would have scored.

No goalkeeper likes conceding goals, when one is so preventable then I think he has every right to be upset. I don't think it was a pop at Salako as such but the ball in came from his side, making him culpable.

Don't think any of them were tuned in today, they could have all got a b***ocking in my opinion..

Sometimes, players need an almithy rollicking to wake them up. Personally, I don't understand why he gave him so much room to cross. And, btw, Sam should have been marking Allison much closer.
Still, Chesterfield are the most negative team to have visited us (I say this every season about them) and they did their level best to physically intimidate our lads. I think the players were demonstrating their frustration and disappointment, nothing else.

First rule of defending for a full back is never let your man get a cross in. Second rule is to show him inside. Sadly, Salako did the second but not the first. I think the defence has a right to have a go.

I think Nelson has every right to b***ock who he wants?
They are all big boys?

Sam was totally 100% at fault for yesterdays second goal, he gave his opponment plenty of room, watched him peel off even further and it was a goal I could have probably scored.

I would rather see Nelson b***ock players than stand back with his hands on his hips and say...'Oh well..'

They'll all get over it and hopefully come back stronger..

Bad Vibes

Sodje's lack of marking for the second was very poor and the biggest error for the goal, but I agree the cross came in pretty much unoppossed as well. These errors would of course count for nought if we had a regular goalscorer in the team. Fitzgerald didn't touch the ball until the 20th minute and I think only another 2 times in his home debut. Flatters to deceive on that showing and made Murray Jones look like Michael Owen

Bad Vibes

As has been said Burton, more often than not, sneaks off at the end of games. Its just that yesterday MA happened to be there when JS tried. No big deal methinks.

Why is everyone worrying??!

Surely thats brilliant, if a 22 year old (??) is having a go at an ex England, FA Cup winner, it shows just how much he cares!!

Wasn't Peter Schmeical one of the best keepers of all time, and didnt he always have something to say?!?!

Spot on...Sodje was ball watching, Allinson is too experienced a player to do that and we paid the price.

He gave Sodje a hard time all game and won far more headers than Sam is used to so maybe Sam felt bad at the end about his overall performance.

A learning experience for him for sure...some of his shimmies were great though, that turn of pace leaving his attacker floundering and looking the wrong way cracks me up every time.

if thats the case why was nelson laying into salako?

Bad Vibes

After the game he was the first player out and wouldn't talk to the sponsors, he went straight out of the ground.

Bad Vibes

May be all is not as rosy in the MA camp as he would have us believe.

Because he knows that he would have pi55ed all over the performance that Frampton gave yesterday.

Bad Vibes

Burton had his head down on more than one occasion. When he failed to square for Turner to slot home, he didn't even apologise to Turner - merely trudged back to the centre spot.

Bad Vibes

a number of them seemed to be out of sorts, with heads down.

Bad Vibes

I did comment yesterday to a mate that there was a lot of negative body language amongst the players, and a fair few of em looked very downbeat

Bad Vibes

Maybe its contract discussion time appearing. MA has said that all the younger players are effectively signed on which implies the experienced pro's out of contract are not...yet??

Could be one or two have had the nod or deduced they won't be here next year. It was about now that Noades started making it clear to SC's team that things were going to change and one or two players went off the boil as I recall..

Bad Vibes

I'd say he was more ****ed off in only getting on for the last 20 minutes. From the commentary we seemed to be much more effective when he was on the pitch than when he wasn't.

Competition for places is a good thing, but tough on the individuals.

Bad Vibes

Come on lads footie is an emotional game, if a keeper concedes a goal which is bad defensively he's gonna yell, if a player knows he should have passed it instead of going for glory he's not going to offer a grovelling apology on the pitch. Let's not micro analyse every single facial expression or gesture and start reading things into it. It was a game the players were dissapointed not to have won, Burton was ****ed at missing a couple of sitters and JS was probably narked at Nelson balling at him and not being played ahead of Frampton...that's the end of the story. Three points against Balckpool please should get everyone's Karma back in harmony.

No way. His marking may have been poor, but that cross never should have come in. As I said on another thread, there's been been far too many times recently when our full-backs have been showing attacking players inside and giving them a free cross/run on goal. :(

Just a thought, Martin Allen didn't look too happy when he walked out at the start of the game. The players looked slightly bewildered.

Could it be that Strachan has turned down the West Ham job? :fishing:

You're probably right. I'm sure his team talk would've been something like :
"Keep it tight, play it on the deck, keep it away from the giants at centre back, by the way I'm off to West Ham."

Even if he did work like that, I would've thought that,as a senior professional at the end of his career, and thus looking for a new opportunity, Mr Salako would've been delighted and probably been more like a 5 year old, eager to impress rather than a sulky teenager.

I think Salako made himself look stupid to be honest.....

I think it's probably a bit unfair to pick out individuals for the goals, we defend as a team and for both of their goals the defence were left high and dry with no support, ok people made mistakes but usually we've got some sort of cover for that possibility.

I suspect if I was Salako I'd be ****ed off that
a) I wasn't in the starting 11
b) I didn't come on til late in the game when Framps was so obviously unfit/injured/playing crap
c) we were playing sh1t long ball
d) I'd just got a b***ocking from a player half my age!
e) I've been playing out of position half the season...

1> Chesterfield always give a muscular battle. Probably suited Framps less sophisticated offerings.
2> MA was spoilt for choice as to who to take off. First off was an attacker, then a defender. Still had about 30 minutes though.
c> Not able to do much else on that pitch
d> Wimp. We need 11 men on the field.
e> I think he's an excellent full back but not as good a winger anymore. I think he should see full back as his rightful position.

I'm sure they'll all get over it.

What was Salako asked to do? My guess was that he was told by MA to get forward more than Frampton had to try and help get us a goal. With that in his mind he was caught upfield in his first involvement in the game and never had the chance to get back to defend and prevent the cross that led to the goal.

Sam was then comprehensively outjumped by Allinson.

Nelsons b***ocking of Salako was a bit OTT.

They'll get over it.

I) No. He was standing alongside the crosser, stood off him and was surprised to see him cross the ball rather than lay it back. Never had a problem with being caught upfield at that point.

2) Agree.

3) Can't see a problem with Salako being b***ocked by Nelson. As has been said elsewhere, most keepers will shout at the defence when there's reason to: Schmeichel, Grobelaar, Burridge all leap to my mind.

4) Agree.
