He had very little financial support.

If I recall correctly his annual budget was a net £80k compared to the current £1.5m of which £0.5m is covered by a grant. Indeed at one time we were so strapped for cash that we considered closing down the Academy programme and simply scouting and signing as young professionals players who had been let go by other clubs. I'm not sure that you realise how close to the brink we were and how much effort had to go into slashing costs back in 2007/8.

You cannot possibly compare the results of Barry Quin with what is going on today with a spend of twenty times what he had. I considered Barry Quin to be a darn good coach who was well respected by the youngsters and their parents. That he is Head Coach at Watford should tell you that he is well regarded.

In his autobiography Peter Crouch speaks highly of Barry Quin who had Crouchy at Brentford when he was nine............and Crouch also incorrectly spelt it Quinn in the book......

Alot of players came through and made professional debuts under Quin (far more than under Ose Aibangee, though the standard since 2010 has been higher), but Kevin O'Connor, Michael Dobson, Karleigh Osborne and Jay Tabb had good first team careers at GP (with the latter two moving up to play Championship and Premiership football respectively) and Darius Charles worked his way back up from non-league. Matt Somner had about another five seasons in league football after being released and we wonder what might have been with Charlie Ide.

Cheers i cant think for the life of me why that idea is in my head. It ay have been there were a few people criticising his work when the club was going through those bad years after SC.
