Despite having BBC 1,2,3,4, HD, News and the red button, why the feck do they keep pushing the coverage of events from one channel to another?

I watch the Mens Cycling on 3 different BBC channels, the womens has been interupted by news and 'BBC Ads'.

Cycling has gone back and forth.

Come on Lizzie!!! Keep going girl!!

I know it must be difficult for the cycling commentators without timechecks but FFS, surely you can use your own watch and time how long before the last of the leaders and the front of the Peleton.
I reckon I could have given a better summary, they flitted between the Peleton have given up to with less than 3 km to go they mustn't get complacent or the pack will reel them in!

Well done to our girl

Great result for Lizzie.

Re: commentary - unfortunately Porter should stick to the track. Constant mistakes, more than Phil Ligget!

I think the red button must be the best option if you want to watch something all the way through, as they probably wouldn't want to tie BBC1 to one event for a few hours... but if you were thinking of recording something it makes it hard. I've also found a few (brief) sound problems on red button transmissions

They have certainly made a wide variety of staff available.

My daughter has gone to the fencing quarter finals today. Looks like I can 'tape' all six hours of it for her to watch again!

because of where we are and no sky/ cable etc, we only have a very limited choice of channels. The online coverage has been superb IMHO.

The coverage on Sky Channel 450 and so on, has been superb. You can stick with an event uninterrupted. I have not had to sit through one banal interview yet and not had see Sue barker on my Tv screen once! Its great to watch the sports like Archery on there and Handball.

Ws it just me, or was the cycling commentary for the mens road race just possibly one of the worst commentaries ever. They had no idea what was going on and who was in the lead half the time. I have heard 1 or 2 thing from people in the know that Hugh Porter is a bit of a so and so, perhaps time to pension him off. Speaking of retirement, anyone notice the return of the great Barry Davies on the hockey?

BBC Coverage

The coverage was poor, not all of it down to the beeb. However Hugh Porter has been making mistakes for a while now, surely his "sprint for 4th place" on Saturday ranks up there with the best of Coleman. Sad as he's as knowledgeable as anybody he just struggles to keep up with the action. Many times over the weekend Boardman corrected him, but in a subtle way rather than putting him down.

BBC Coverage

John Inverdale annoys me and seems to be on another planet tonight.

Anyway, posts deleted so carry on and chill out. You were against the CoC so you are lucky not to have to sit on the naughty step. I guarantee if Banana wasn't participating in the Rythmic gymnastics today you would be banned.

Thank you but the most offensive post is still on the site!

If a popular, "liked" gpg poster had wrote the comment,
would he be getting this reception? Think about that.

Their posts would be deleted too. Highlight ones we've missed and they'll be deleted as well.

Tom,

You get out what you put in, post rubbish and offend people and they'll let you know. Best you grow up, recognise you're in the wrong and stop looking to divert blame.

BBC Coverage

Tom I haven't a clue what you wrote but its the greatest night in British athletic history. Just try to enjoy it.

BBC Coverage

Just watched the Farrah race again. Absolutely superb hairs on the back of the neck commentary from Steve Cram.

BBC Coverage

I have read the deleted posts and Tom is now on a break. Completely unacceptable posts.

I agree there have been a few things that have been a bit annoying.
But, hey, overall, the Beeb's coverage has been terrific.
Yesterday was a truly fantastic day for British sport, and it was great to be able to watch so many great moments, plus the build-up,presentations and interviews etc.
I was able to watch Jessica and Mo race to glory on my tv, whilst simultaneously witnessing the GB football team match and penalty drama on my laptop!

BBC Coverage

I've been impressed with Clare Balding, the rowing commentator (can't find his name), Michael Johnson, Denise Lewis and all the knowledgeable pundits.

Not impressed with Gary Lineker (anyone see Thorpe put him in his place?), Hugh Porter (think it was him that made constant moans about the lack of time-checks) and Jake Humphrey.

BBC Coverage

What annoys me most is that he has a job I would die for!

I think he's confused and disorientated, as they usually only defrost him for the 6 nations.

STOP DOING THE"GOLD" by spandau ballet thing, its embarrassing.

"Cheesy" more than embarrassing...... But that's our British eccentricity surely?!

BBC Coverage

Rowing is done by Dan Topolski and Gary Herbert

BBC Coverage

The only one who has been 'offish' is the cycling commentator, Porter, too many errors in his commentary.

The rest have done us proud I think.

Also, the studio presenters have all done a good job too, including Inverdale, Humphrey, Balding, Logan, Manish, etc etc..... Plus the summarisers too. The rowing ones take the top spot though, passion along with knowledge and acknowledging good rowing from the other countries.

Agree,

The coverage has by and large been superb and last night was the most fantastic entertainment.
I get annoyed with Sharon Davies who cones across as charmless and patronising and states the obvious, Hugh Porter is just out of touch but that aside most of the experts insight is excellent. Steve Redgrave, Chris Boardman, Mark Foster, Steve Cram all worth listening to.

Think Sue Barker, Gary Lineker , Claire Balding and John Inverdale have all anchored well and I can relate to them. Lineker much better when not part of the MOTD old boys act trying to be "funny" and he's become a front man and not a wooden ex footballer with the mic.

Overall more than happy and the Beeb do sport better than anyone else. Wish they still had the cricket.

BBC Coverage

Cheers, both are excellent

You serious? The shouting, screaming fella has to be one of the most annoying commentators ever! Incredibly jingoistic, its amazing he ever realises other nations are racing. Thanks goodness for the other fella, the posh one, who gives a more informed and balanced view. Reminds me of the Murray Walker/James Hunt commentary team of days past.

Hugh Porter has had 1 big event too many. Very old school BBC! A friend of mine was a BMX champion and once did a co-commentary with Porter and was told in no uncertain terms who was in charge. He said the whole experience was cringe-worthy as Porter didnt have a clue about BMXing and made frequent gaffes. He said he was a bit 'do you know who i am'

Loving the coverage with no anchor people or interviews on Sky channels 450+. Just sport and crowds! Its about time the BBCs coverage got into the 21st century and stopped being stuck in the 70s, it all feels so tired and dated.

I was also a fan of Murray Walker. They make it more exciting.

I like it when the commentators show emotion, just because we're British, why should we be stiff upper lip.
It's our Olympics, and the nation is passionate so why shouldn't the commentary reflect that, it certainly would be the case in any other country.
Herbert in the rowing may be OTT but he's been there and it's obvious he cares but it's balanced with the very knowledgeable Toploski.
I loved the coverage in the stadium last night, Cram was
like one of us last night, a Brit willing Mo Farrah to win.

Nah, plenty of us know exactly what NLB is like. A bloody great drama queen is one way of putting it.

BBC Coverage

John Inverdale + Matt Baker have disappointed.
Balding has done well.
Jake Humphries has been decent
Liked most of the other commentators with the exception of the horsey bloke- way too posh not sure of his name-prob double barrelled

By all means shout and scream and praise the guy winning the gold. But in the case of rowing he was shouting and screaming about the Brit way back in fourth and not actually telling us anything about the ones in the medal positions. Thanks goodness for Topolski!

The posh horse commentator. Top commentator knows his stuff. Eventing coverage was excellent with Ian Stark co-commentating.
