BBC versus ITV

Which do you prefer ? i am in favour of the BBC. Watching the match tonight it seems the commentary is ahead of the action.

BBC versus ITV

At the moment it's BBC, mainly because Matterface is awful.

BBC versus ITV

I liked the ITV panel last night. But hate the commentators.

BBC versus ITV

Adverts on ITV ruin it a bit, the teams come out, national anthem, you are ready to go and then the atmosphere and anticipation is removed as we sit through 2-3 betting adverts convincing you to bet your money whilst also telling you to bet responsibly,

On a pundit front I like the mixed panels, Alex Scott, Aluko, Mica, Gary Lineker, Roy Keane, Andros Townsend are Gary Neville are excellent but Rio and Ashley Cole I struggle with. Rio spouts cliches but can't get them right half the time (it's early windows, sick as budgie etc) and Ashley just goes errrrrrr all the time.

All the commentators are poor, they talk sh*t and just spout meaningless facts that you can tell they have written down and are trying to shoe horn in. Whoever did the England game last night was trying so hard to turn the screw on us, an attack broke down and we recycled it so he says in an exacerbated voice "oh, now its back to the keeper after a corner" etc. Probably thinking he was capturing the mood of the nation.

I've got to the stage where I start watching from just before KO, take the dogs for a quick last walk at half time (not a euphemism) then turn off on the final whistle. Apart from the groups that involve the home nations I have no idea who is in the other groups. I watch games where there is possible Brentford interest more closely but otherwise couldn't give a monkey's. In the last few years, maybe it's an age thing, it's a case of "Love Brentford - hate football".

The BBC is certainly better than ITV but primarily because it doesn't have advertising breaks and Sam Whatshisface. Most of the commentators (old male, that is) fail in the primary task of commentating of the match, particularly when the teams contain players I don't recognise and I just need to know the name of the player receiving and passing the ball. I really don't need to know that he once scored against some team while playing for another team I've no interest in or that the commentator bumped into him and his wife on a holiday 10 years ago.

I am most often impressed with female commentators and pundits who generally tell you what is happening right now on the pitch and often have some tactical insight. This is where the BBC's 'correctness' has a great advantage and it's clear the competence level required for a female to get the job is several levels higher than the male.

Sam tw*tterface does my head in , so negative.

why can’t we have 3 English pundits as well ? Taffs have 3 of their own and so do the Jocks ?? Probably be too English and we can’t have that can we ???

Because Roy Keane has become the pundit everyone loves or hates, as he's honest on opinion and probably signed up to a lucrative deal for ITV to utilise.
All pundits are a bit naff in reality as they are just going over and seeing what you're seeing. So often seem to state the bleeding obvious.
Commentators however!! You can understand why Natalie dumped Matterface, he doesn't really commentate, but spouts continual bollox!!

BBC versus ITV

Simple choices
1. sit down at ko,
2. mute or turn sound down real low,
3. half time get up go for a p*ss/cr@p, have a beer/cuppa,
4. Second half repeat no. 1
5. Final whistle turn off, go for another p*ss/cr@p, drink more beer.
Well that's what most of us do when we go to a game anyway.

Why do we have any pundits? It’s a waste of money. I’m sure we’d all agree with Roy Keane that in order to score the ball needs to be moved forward, and the quicker the better. None of that passing across the middle for him! And who goes short when the bottles of coke are opened? There ain’t enough to go round!

A lot of the old guard plus most of the pc lot have left me longing for Clinton Morrison, that’s not a compliment.

I rarely listen to them. Start watching as game kicks off, make a drink at halftime and turnover at match end.

I flip flop between the BBC & RTÉ, I try to avoid ITVs coverage as I find it annoying.
RTÉ coverage is the best, very balanced & the pundits aren’t afraid to speak their minds.

Probably one of the few benefits of being deaf. I don't use my hearing aids and turn the sound down to zero.

BBC versus ITV

this was me reading that sentence trying to work it out, if you are deaf why are you turning the sound down to not hear it

ITV sport has always been awful . World of sport versus grandstand ? Me Bough won every time .

on the ball/ Big match was only plus for ITV

Searchin g for the England and Scotland games last night made me realise just how rarely I ever watch ITV these days. And when the ITN News came on after the game ended, it was probably the first time I'd watched it 3 or 4(?) years.

As regards their footy coverage, I don't think it's noticeably better or worse than BBC, except that I personally cannot stand Roy Keane, while the ads give the chance to put the kettle on/fetch a beer/visit the loo etc.

Is there a senior pundit in the English game as superb as John Collins? Caught him on ITV4 last night, at half time and it made a change from self-congratulation, smugness and moaning.

I've watched a few games on the BBC red button which has 5 Live commentary.

IMO Karen Carney is a very good co-commentator.

I caught some of his interview with Piers Morgan last night. I have to say he looks very different.

Missed that. He's probably been rearing a family.
A whole dynasty by the sounds of things. They didn't even mention Dortmund's Champions League win. A fascinating life.

The ITV Seven, wrestling from Brent Town Hall featuring Giant Haystacks plus some random event like high diving from the cliffs at Acapulco. I remember they once featured the Circus Olympics from Bertram Mills at Olympia.
