Bees midfield

I have trawled other threads and can see no sign of midfield players coming to GP.

At the moment we have:

Slullasson - who may well be crap after a career threatening injury.
Brooker - who deserves to be thrown into the New Den wearing a West Ham kit.
Rhodes - pace nothing else
Peters - still plays like the young lad he is.
Tillen - potential but not the finished product.
plus players filling in if needed.

I feel we need at least two central midfield players and not clones of Newman, Paul Smith & EH. I feel we need pace as well as tacking ability.

But still only trials for strikers, keepers and defenders.

Bees midfield

Danny Hollands messed that up.
A 6ft 1 tough tackling young lad with pace who sadly wants to live near his mum.
Would have been a good addition.

Bees midfield

Paul Smith is on trial :sneakoff:

Hopefully 1 day was enough for Le-roy to see sense! Dont kill me please but maybe he has a plan....

Bopp at Forest! Released from Forest get him in Le-roy

yep,I heard it was in the bag,until... ,well weve done it on clubs before with Prately and Kuffour ,what goes around comes around.........

There's still time plenty of time for additions - I'm sure Leroy and John Griffin haven't put all their eggs in one basket.

What's really galling is how it happened though or rather why Bormuff were given the opportunity. :mad1:

Don't believe a word of that b***ocks. He signed for Bournemouth because they offered more money and better terms.

dont you say b***ocks to me :nono: ;)

Wasnt his immenent signing anounced from the " top " of the board ?

Leroy is a legend at Foolham, can`t he get a loanee in to start training.

Every point is going to be vital to reach mid table and we need to get off to a reasonable start.

Agree, the midfield is looking particularly threadbare, however am looking forward to Tillen left midfield, he showed pace and although is listed as a defender on the OS, I think midfield is his best position ( same for KOC listed as a striker but defence is best for him ) My worry is also, the defence, with Turner on his way to Hull and Sodje going to go anywhere and not necessarily upwards , rather than staying at Brentford, we need two strong defenders to replace them ( when it comes down to it, overall he was a bloody good defender - Mr Trampoline Man ) Chris Hope looks a good replacement but we need another strong performer at the back. Framo and OConnor are great but our backline was generally our best area last year ( it certainly wasnt our ability to knock in loads of goals...) and we need another strong one to complete the backline.

With the signing of Jo Kouffour already, and with :owusu: Willock, Peters, Rhodes and Ide ( is he still there ? ) along with the trialists, we seem to be heavy upfront but light midfield and defence. Will be interesting to see what develops and who will be the worthy buy with our Coca Cola 50k.
It is a very scary thought that I think there is only 3/4 players left out of the team that I last saw play at the end of April:eek:

I was under the impression that that money was destined for the Ron Noades pocket money Fund?

I think the terms of the Coca cola competition was that it had to be ring fenced for an actual signing!!

willock hasnt done it ever, rhodes hasnt done it since his injury, peters hasnt done it when tried, ide untried, owusu never set the world alight last season, kuffour scoring record dubious to say the least ! heavy in numbers compared to other depts but lacking in quality imho

I have heard a rumour that we are going to be playing aa 5 - 1 - 4 formation next year, with just skulason in midfield, as he is the only midfielder we have that is remotely worth a place. and this is only on reputation

"Willock hasn't done it ever" (by lincolnbee)

Although he hasn't impressed at all since he arrived here, I agree...I think you are wrong to say that. If you look at his record: -

2004/05 at Peterborough - 14 goals in 32 starts

Overall - 23 goals in 57 starts

I would rather he wasn't here as I think we could do an awful lot better, but his record when he has a settled year isn't too bad - and it's a lot better than some we've had in recent years!

Option: Good

· We have traded in a manager who was more interested in his own PR profile than his actual work at BFC and who could not manage strikers
· We have gained a young and hungry manager who will rebuild the team this season and set us up for a serious challenge for promotion in 2007/08
· We will keep one out of Turner and Sodje
· With the money we get from the tactical sale of the other we will maybe get shot of RN once and for all
· Good early-season results will keep the crowds above the 6,000 mark and, while not making a massive impact on the debt, will at least enable the club to look to a modest debt reduction over the season and a year-end that finishes in the black.

Option: Not so good…..
· We have lost the best manager we have had for years (although to be fair he was probably always going to go anyway)
· We have gained a rather limp and ineffective, if very pleasant, young man, who will make little impact on the team and the club
· Both Turner and Sam will go, tempted by the lure of bigger bucks elsewhere in our division (Swansea, Forest, anyone?), or the promise of a regular start in the Championship
· Our considerably weakened side struggle from the start, and by mid-October we are playing in front of sub-4,500 crowds
· Come March, and we are strong favourites for relegation, and even with the transfer monies, our low crowds paint a bleak picture for BFC’s financial future, and indeed BFC’s very existence altogether.

Pass the hemlock, dearie…..

I can see no point in signing Chris Moore when we are two or three CM players short. What if Oli is crap or gets injured again?

Why are we trying to sign strikers with such a small budget? Is there some positive progress on getting rid of Fitz, Brooker, Willock?

If Leroy wants three midfielders and two strikers and is negotiating deals for them all should he tell the strikers not to sign if they agree terms until the midfielders are ready just to stop the fans from panicking?

I just can`t see the budget for three more CM players. I also see no point in signing Chris Moore when we have 4 strikers already.

Unless one or more are on the way out. Rankin and Gayle have gone, Moore and Kuffour have come in. There must be plenty of scope left in the budget for CM's.

Why on earth would we want 3 more CM's?

I guess we could get by with two, if we are lucky with injuries and suspensions. I was thinking also if the CMs were pacey, they could fill in as cover for the full backs.

If Oli is pony, then if you sign two CMs you will have little in the way of options.

I personally would rather have four strikers and four CM instead of five and three.

But maybe Willock and Fits are on the way out.

Rankin, Newman, Gayle, Tabb, Turner, Bankole, Hutchinson, Probably Sodje would suggest that there is quite a bit off the budget wage wise from last season. So far Kuffour & Moore (replace Rankin & Gayle), Hope will replace Turner. So I would think that there is money left from the wages of the others.
We will still need another centre back, 2 midfielders at the very least imho.

Dont forget Pratley has also gone. Isn't Karleigh Osbourne a CD ? several people think he is ready for the step up to the first team

Pratley was paid for by Lifeline though, I don't think our current manager will be going to them and asking for a player as he's spent his budget on crocks.

Still no real cover or competition in midfield. I do hope that Oli has learn`t not to pick up silly yellows, otherwise we will be hit hard by suspensions. What if one of them picks up an injury? Why sign the Staines bloke? Questions Questions?

We need at at least two more in for CM if old Santa doesn`t sign.

Bees midfield

Completely agree Mr Ace. Hopefully next week he will get another central midfielder in because to bee fair the wide positions are covered but none of the wide players can fill the central role. Cant work out why Standing wasnt given a years deal?

Like you say injuries, suspensions will happen. Also a bit of competition wouldnt go a miss.

my feelings exactly

skulasson and pinault missed all of last season with injury.
will their fitness hold up?

skulasson is combative player. suspensions are inevitable

cover is essential.

in the chronicle leroy talks about wanting to deploy midfielders coming
through the ranks but who are they?

moushino isn't a midfield player

last year we had tabb, newman, pratley hutchinson and lewis in CM
we're currently very short

Bees midfield

Everyone's missing the point here...Leroy currently has a squad of 18 (plus the five 'kids'). Until Willock or Fitzgerald move on, there will be no new additions to the squad.

Leroy would still like a central midfielder, a left-sided player and a 'holding' striker - but nothing is on until the others leave!!!

Bees midfield

I think that we've gotta go with Leroy until we know any better.

His signings so far look promising and so i presume that he's gotta good idea what's gonna happen in the middle of the park.

From what we have so far this is gonna be so different from last season in the type of player that we'll be seeing (ie, Newman & Pratley -v- Skulason & Pinault). We've just got to believe that he'll strengthen in depth.

Once an injury doesnt automatically mean that they're prone forever more. :)

Bees midfield

1. Yes we do have to 'go with Leroy', because he's the manager.
2. If you think he has a good idea what's gonna happen in the middle of the park once either Pinault or Oli miss a match, please let me know.
3. I guess we'll have to believe that he will eventually strenghten. But why release Standing who was on a mighty small salary?
4. So you're totally fine with going with exactly two CM players, both of whom have been crippled with injuries the last 1-2 years. Ok.

I've been told in another thread that I should be totally unworried about the situation in the middle of the pitch, but I'm struggling to remain as blissful as you all.

Blissful......mmmmmmmmm

Cheers for reminding me that Leroy is manager. I'd thought for one minute, NO, one second (see we can all be as patronising as each other if we want to be) that he was the boot cleaner.

If you look at the Don't Panic thread from about 2/3 weeks ago you'll see that i'm not a champagne and roses merchant but what do you wanna do 7 days from the new season???

I don't actually know what he's gonna do if there's an injury. If i did, then at this moment i'd probably be screaming from the sidelines at Crawley. But i'm not.

Standing looked alright to me but perhaps he wanted to put himself in a position to earn some money in his life. Fair enough to him - i can understand that.

As for the  ...................... (have a good weekend - great post)

Bees midfield

Every player plays better with competition for his place, fact. Eg: poor form of Nelson at times.

We need at least one CM general and we should have done this weeks a go by (a) appointing one instead of Mortimer (b) not signing both Moore and Tomlin.

My fear is that poor old Leroy is a victim of the jungle drums and potential players know that BFC is in for tough times, so would rather choose a club on the up.

Bees midfield

Any1 that thinks that Bees are in for anything near promotion this year are, IMHO, on the wrong planet.

We have got to accept that LR has got his work cut out to stabilise this club to a point where they are to eventually then push on to the position where MA was fortunate enough to get to last season.

This post may get some grief from those that are prepared to say that Brentford are looking at promotion but i'm happy to 'discuss' how?

Not negative, just realistic compared to all others (Kuffour & Moore -v- Trundle/Fallon & Knight). Co-mmmm-e on?

The underlying message (AS WE ALL KNOW) is that at 2.55 next Saturday we'll be shouting our backsides off for the 11 blokes in a Red & White shirt.

We can all have hope in the first week of August. No-1 can take that away from us.

The rest of the season is for those that have got a bit more

Am hoping Leroy is waiting for the right player on loan in Sep, instead of maybe getting the wrong one now.

Cos our CM is short on depth, options and physical strength.

PS: Why did no one say Kuffour is a dwarf?;)
