Bees v Orient

For those of us not at the match it's live on BBC London now!

0 - 0 Brooker hit the post.

Was going, but the Silverlink cancelled the train at Willesden Junction, and then all the trains that go to Gunnersbury, so I had to head back home. One very annoyed boy.

Bees v Orient

Orient all over Brentford really, with a few chances being made by Brentford. 7 or 8 corners for Orient already, Brooker looking good as of the radio.

Bees v Orient

O'Connor just hit the bar so hard, it came 30 yards back to Skullason.

'In the style of a 1960's football, Michael Turner shoulder barges the Orient keeper into the back of the net while he has the ball firmly in his hands'.
The boys are back :D

Brooker, again the dangerman, has an effort cleared off the line after beating Morris (GK). Let's hope he can keep this up in the new season.

Bees v Orient

OK, Half time, and it has been agreed by both commentators, Nick and Matt, that Orient were all over the Bees, but it levelled out towards the end of the half. 94.9 FM if you want to tune in.

'Glimpes of a 4-3-3 with Rankin going up'

Bees v Orient

1,935 attendace, Andy Scott hoping for 2000, which isn't too bad considering one of the main travel routes to Brentford is out, Silverlink Metro, stopping at Gunnersbury, Richmond through to North Woolich (which is why I'm not here now, I had to turn back and go home :()

Bees v Orient

Singh has looked the other way for the second time with Echanomi asking for a penalty, both clumsy tackles by Sodje, first one may have been one, second probably not.

Bees v Orient

Owusu --> Fitz
DJ Campbell --> Tillen
Paul Brooker --> Tabb

On the hour mark.

Bees v Orient

Rankin and Fitz upfront, Tillen on left mid, Tabb on right mid, Skulason in the centre, back 4 stay the same, and I presume Dobbo is in the centre.

Ronan, your doing a sterling job, keep it up :sorted:

Brentford sitting back really, all quiet, Leyton on the attack... Sodje again, Penalty!! Clipped Echanomi's heels, 3rd time lucky for the O's.

Bees v Orient

Echanomi to take...

Bees v Orient

Bankole parries it away! Saved!!

In yer face everyone!

Bees v Orient

Parried away to the left, good height for the keeper, Bankole claims the ball from the resulting corner. Not a good penalty, but a good save nonetheless.

Bees v Orient

Karleigh Osbourne

Olafur Skulason.

Correction, Skulason gave the penalty away.

Bees v Orient

Turner givies it away in a danger place, Bankole parries away from near point blank. Straight down the other end, O'Connor has forced Morris into another good save.

Bees v Orient

Apart from the penalty, Orient have their best chance, McMahon firing, Bankole tips over, free kick to Brentford, Michael Turner being fouled upon from resulting corner.

Bees v Orient

GOAL

Brentford 2 - 0 Orient

Karleigh Osbourne, looping shot, looked like going over the bar, but suddenly dipped back down into the net, looked to fly over and dipped at the last moment, over Morris (GK). Assist from Scott Fitz, from the side. Martin Allen looking very pleased as was Osbourne.

BIg George put not one foot wrong all game. Cheers for Big George. Man of the Match for me and MA took him off with a few minutes to go to earn the crowds applause. Well done MA. Well done Big George. What impressed me about him tonight was the fact that he stood up till almost past the last minute when faced with both a pen and a point blank shot. Delighted for him. Brooker looked far, far more dangerous for me than Steve Hunt- could have had two or three goals. Thought Lloyd looked more effective than a '5', much more active than at Staines - suspect he and DJ could get a really good understanding. DJ just looks so quick and elusive plus he knows where the back of the net is - makes a change at Griffin Park. Delighted that Karleigh scored - he does not look like a junior, that lad. Oli showed glimpses but hasn't got used to our level yet. When he does I suspect he could have the fans in the palm of his hand. He looks to have great potential composure. Messrs Turner and Sodje are having a bit of a larf inthese friendlies, I reckon. Eye not on the ball all the time. MAybe that'll change on Saturday against Charlton. Enjoyed the game though. Andy Scott spoke well at half time. "8 youngsters up to the age of 24 die every week from his condition in the UK". That is terribel when, as he says, its preventable by regular ECG checks at school. £34 per kid. Less than the price of a Premiership match ticket. Good luck Andy and may your cause go from strength to strength.

So legging it out the box to try and let a stationary ball run out of play was a good idea

He was on good form nevertheless

Best 'friendly' I've ever been to.

DJ is class, as was Mr Badgoalie, Oli, an Tabby & loads of others.

Brought a Fulham mate who said "Christ the difference in class is amazing".

Which was nice.

Good luck to Andy & his cause.

Well I did buy him a few ESB and Pride half & half's...

And we did rattle the woodwork... Twice.

Er.Um...

You are probably right.

I'd better take these glasses back!

Bees v Orient

Although I arrived a little late and may have missed about 10 minutes, I don't think Orient anywhere near dominated the first half. For my money it was pretty even, and we had the better chances. Brooker and O'Connor could've had a couple each.
Very impressed with Brooker, DJ looking lively, Lloyd will get there, O'Connor comfortable just about anywhere on the pitch, and pleased for Big George after a solid performance. Overall, I think we just about shaded it and deserved the win.
Top man Scotty, good luck with keeping up the awareness. :sorted:

Er, I think he probably meant the difference in class from the Premiership... !

Wasnt a great game tonight, we looked really ropey at the back, but Bankole had a great game and saved us many a time.. We played a strange sort of 4-4-2 with one of the wide players coming inside so we didn't really have much width. Brooker was on a different plane to everyone else on the pitch, could have had a hat-trick, as soon as he went off we looked a nothing side. Kev had a very good game in centre mid, looked the part, Dobbo had a good first half, trying to pass it but in the second ended up lumping it again..

Owusu out of sorts again, missed a really good chance. Getting a bit worried about him. DJ looked lively scored a good goal, but he really needs the ball to feet to cause any problems..

Bit odd that we only had 5 subs, no Gayle, Newman, Peters, Hutch (praise be!), showed up the problems we might have in the future when Osbourne had to play in midfield, although he did ok. His goal looked to have got a big deflection and looped over the keeper..

Skulason ran around and looked the part, put in a couple of tackles but actually never really did anything.. I think he might take a while to get used to the pace/style of lower division footie, some of his passing was a bit wayward which is worrying. Tabby came on and made a couple of good runs but by that time we'd got Fitz and Rankin up front and nothing much was happening there. I've seen Fitz in three friendlies and he hasnt showed anything in any of them, cant see what MA sees in him, he doesnt even work hard..

Back four was awful!! Apart from maybe Turner. Sodje looks like he thinks he should be playing premier league, lots of basic mistakes, one of which led to the pen.. Bankole had one mad moment but otherwise did very well.. We'll have to play a lot better than that on sat. They've also got to realise that they cant get away with the easy punt up front anymore cos without Burton it's just gonna come straight back...

On the "up escalator": Mr DJ
On the "down escalator": Mr Sodje. I think that the close-season speculation (and maybe promises) of his agent has got to him. I hope he doesn't think that he's too good for League One and therefore shouldn't bother trying because that's what it appeared to me tonight. Interesting to compare the hunger that (say) DJ was showing compared with Sam.

IMHO if you want to make it at a higher level you have to walk every game at this level - Sam failed this evening in a big big way.

Bees v Orient

Agree with all the above ( in parts ) from the back George in goal was great and Martin did well to take him of at 88 minutes so he could get his own applause from the crowd hopefully the fans will get of his back after this, thought Dobbo looked good first half but his passes in the second were a bit wayward Martin was having a go at him for this at times. Turner and Sodje were OK have seen them play better but still not bad on the night. Framps played as well as I have seen him at left back perhaps the signing of Tillen has made him realise that this position is not gauranteed. Midfield looked good, have seen Brooker at Reading and am amazed we have got him, good with both feet quality crosses and he can score plus he went back deep and defended when needed, at Bideford he was much the same. Skaluson looked good and as others have said when he gets used to the type of Footy we play in this division will be a great asset. Kev O C great in midfield but better than Dobbo at right back. Rankin in the first half looked good right midfield. DJ, saw more in him tonite than either Staines or Bideford I think now ( didn't) with a bit of luck he may turn out very well for us. I really have concerns about Lloyd, thats 3 games now and nowhere near what he was before. I had the pleasure of chating to Martin A for 10 / 15 minutes at Bideford who told me how he wanted to play this season against last, I think many Bees fans will have seen the difference tonight. Tabby looked great, as did Osbourne. I can't wait to see what Martin feels his 1st Eleven will be play. I just have the feeling that this season will be good, the squad although smaller is certainly better. All the best and as Nigel Brooks has said well done to everybody who turned up and some who couldn't who have made donations to a worthy cause. :sorted:

Sam looked like he did not care last night and was not the sam we all know??
Turner did not look to good either at the back but good set peices to flick the ball on when attacking corners.
Tabby looked awsome when he came on with great ball controll and good darting runs.
Bankole had a good game but not commanding enough with his defence.
DJ looked very very hungry and allways wanted the ball.
Skullson looked promising but could see a few cards this seson with full on commited challenges in the middle.
Brooker looked good and forward thinking passes.
Dobbo done okay postision wise and will get better and better this season.
Karleigh looks a very good prospect.
Issiah done well with passing and finding a red shirt a lot and a good shot early on.
Owushu worried a bit but maybe just needs to get a bit fitter.

To challege this season we may need 1 more centre back but most importantly we need a GK apart from that,it was the best pre season friendly i have seen the bees play with a lot of training ground moves coming of very well.

Bees v Orient

As I wasn't there, can I ask how the pitch looked? Do you think that we might be able to play balls along the deck, and run with the ball, with confidence this year?
