I thought we were great second half, battered them. First half was closer with us edging it. Christ we should have had 4 second half, hit the crossbar, 3 breakaways where miles made the wrong choice and twice off the line.

Spillane and simpson gave them a torrid time down the right and mac worked his absolute socks off.

I was surprised we took alexander and mac off when both were playing so well and causing all sorts and not putting another forward on. (OK, simpson can play there but just a strange move IMO).

Defensively very sound and hamer is still a class act. In fact hamer only had a couple of easy shots to save all game but the catching and monitoring of the last third was excellent. Miles a constant threat and KO and dave very solid.

We know we are in a false position, sky and commentators had no idea we were but thankfully minto had some insight. Any neutral would have thought it was david vesus goliath listening to it, personally i thought we were nailed on before it started as they are top, we are bottom and we are much better than people think so it was bound to happen.

TV coverage was crap as they joined the game as the players came out and left right afer the final whistle. Does anybody really sit and listen to andy grey for 3 hours after a prem game as he draws out triangles on his computer, I didnt want that but a good 10 minute review of the game would have been nice.

Because I was working today, I had to watch it on TV, Curious effect - I thought we had more than our fair share of 50/50s given our way. Though why the SW player wasn't sent off was beyond me as well.

McDonald had a knock I think.

Alexander going off was only because we switched to 4-5-1 and Simpson had the younger legs needed for the lone man role.

I agree. That dirty big back Purse committed at least 5 blatent fouls before the ref decided to book him

Fully deserved win :sorted:

Thought we were the better side throughout the game against a very big and physical wednesday side. If it hadn't been for Weaver in goal (how did he save that!?) we would have won more comfortably.

Hamer gave us a calmness and assurance that we've lacked and I feel sorry for Leon Legge but Karleigh and Pim look like our best pairing. Karleigh was outstanding, i've never questioned his ability but its always been mistakes and decision making that has been his downfall but he seems to have eradicated that from his game. If there was an award for most improved player then Karleigh wins it hands down.

Spillane didn't have that good a game but you can see the potential. A right back with skill who can get forward and also be a goal threat. We all know what kev can do but I think we need an attacking right back and we seem to have found it.

We played the better football and there was a rhythm and fluidity to our play, the occasional long ball here and there but plenty of passes to feet and movement off the ball. Wednesday barely threatened and first half it was a matter of whether our play would bring us a goal. Finally it did, and what a goal. Ball into feet to Charlie, lovely little spin then perfectly placed into the bottom corner.

We certainly have a player in Robbie Simpson and I can't believe Huddersfield don't want him. Looks adept both on the right and up front and that turn and volley that hit the bar was pure class.

Wednesday had a lot of the ball second half and Hunt came on and steadied the ship. We went 4-5-1 and Adams really excelled, there's a hint of Craig Bellamy about him, snapping and chasing everything and almost scored with a crisp volley at the end.

It got a bit nervy towards the end but really Hamer was hardly troubled all game and that was a testament to our back four.

Alexander and MacDonald clicked, still think Gary looks a bit unfit and hope charlie's knock isn't too bad. Weston is always a threat, his first touch has got better and his crossing has also improved. At times I wish he'd get his head up and look for a pass, that break away at the end summed it up.

A very good performance, to be critical we should be more ruthless, how we cocked up that chance after half time where about four players seemed to pass it to each other in the box was farcical. Diagouraga was a little bit off today and Bean may feel hard done by dropping to the bench. Great to get a win finally and let's push on and get some points on the board before we can enjoy the big game against Everton.

My ratings-

Hamer-7- Flawless, nothing much to do.

Woodman-7- Really like him, a solid steady full back.
Spillane-6- Not his best game but the attacking potential is there.
Osborne-9- Thought he was outstanding, good in the air, quick, strong, really now starting to come good.
Balkestein-7- Back to near his best after a little blip.

Weston-7- A constant threat
Simpson-8- Thought he was excellent, always involved and a big goal threat.
O'Connor-7- Much better in central midfield
Diagouraga-6- A couple of loose passes

MacDonald-7- Great touch and goal, shame he got injured
Alexander-6- Contributes a lot, i'm sure the goals will come.

Adams-7-Looks a real find.

A very mature polished performance with several outstanding performances all over the pitch - one of the most entertaining games I have seen in a long time. Well done to all!

Yes Coke should have walked i thought he slapped Woodman too!
Osborne played brilliant again.
I would like to see AS now keep Spills at right back and King Kev in the centre.
Simpson, bloody hell this chap has really impressed me this season! Great with his head, no fear to cross, shoot or take players on.
Really dont suprise me the TV were making it seem that it was David v Galioth.
I thought Wednesday were average. Didnt threat us really and their fans ha did they even break out into a song!
Great three points another three at Bristol please with the same performance.
No good winning today if we dont bounce on from this

Excellent performance and kept it on the deck which was more productive,and Scotty picked the right players in right postions.Best player in my opinion was Karliegh Osborne won everything in the air,bring on the gas.Also Coke should of been sent off for a clear stamp on Woodman.

we were much improved today charlies goal was pure class hamer seemed to give the defence confidence kev much better in midfield but best of all simpson unlucky not to score and all round game was excellent my one downer is alexander he was awful again today and we should start with mac & simpson & adams on the wing a great 3 points just what we needed

Hamer, not much to do but looked confident and seemed to inspire confidence in those around him.

Spillane, looked rock solid apart from 1 mistake in first half which we were lucky to get away with. Linked up well with Simpson and looked dangerous coming forward.

KO, did everything asked of him and looked really solid next to Pim.

Pim, looked like the player he was last season, gave Wednesday nothing.

Woodman, brilliant defending, stood up really well when they ran at him and looked dangerous when he came forward.

Simpson, getting better and better. So unlucky when he hit the bar.

Koc, steady combative performance. Much better in centre mid than he is at right back. Bean will see a lot more of the bench from now on.

Dave, worked hard and did a lot of the graft.

Weston, always a threat with his pace but couldn't find the killer ball this time.

Alexander, held it up well at times and pressurised their defence well.

Charlie. As always worked so hard. Had 1 half chance and scored a really class goal.

Hunt. Only on for a few minutes but did nothing wrong.

Adams, looks a real gem. Going to give some defences a really hard time this season. What a volley late on and what a save. Any other day that was 2-0 and goodnight.

All in all a top team performance. We have quality in this squad and eventually it will pay dividends. Still more optimistic than I have been for a very long time. Keep it up Andy.

Brilliant performance could and should have won by more but one negative the crowd 5396 what a shocking crowd and Wednesday brought over 1000 completely disgraceful and needs to improve.

I'm going to watch it again but I think Woodman grabs Coke boot whist he's mid air so he looses his footing hense the stamp, anyway what a great win for us...

What a performance, more of that please. Delighted to get the win, werent too sure before the match but after it, we deserved the win, outplayed a class team. No surprise we keep a clean sheet in the league at last when Ben Hamer is between the sticks, did what he had to do well which was little but still did it greatly. Ref was crap. Everyone deserves MOM, fantastic goal, could of been 4! Off the line, crossbar and a good save from Weaver. Well done Bees, need to build on this now.

Great team performance. Thought we just edged it in the first half (created better goal chances) and were clearly the better team in second half. Wednesday's threat did not really materialise towards the end of the match - or was it just that our defence was so well organised?
Good performances all over the pitch - Osborne at the back, KOC always in the action and one great last ditch defensive tackle, Simpson and Weston constant threats and Charlie as always a danger, working tirelessley and a great goal.
Very quiet game from Wednesday's 1,800 odd fans - subdued by the Bees' commanding performance.
Well done ALL the lads (including the subs).

KOC was immense today in CM alright we don`t play through midfield, but in defensive mode he was superb. Dave needs to look after the ball better.

Best performance of the season so far. However as someone has already touched on, desperately disappointing crowd. Under 4K Bees fans in attendance. Hopefully this performance might encourage some people back through the turnstiles. Home attendance wise we must be in the bottom 10%.

How many do you think a bottom of the league side should get when live on television? I was a bit surprised it was that many.

The crowds will return when we see more regular performances like this afternoons and we climb the table.

Excellent performance from the Bees today. No weak links anywhere on the pitch and would echo the comments above about Karleigh Osborne today who I think had his best ever performance in a bees shirt.

I'm not sure how we accommodate Simpson and Adams in the same side but somehow or other we need to try.

Season started today hopefully.

the bolton keeper did exact same thing and walked, ok the guy hasnt hit him as hard just a little push away but still raised his hands deserved too go.
Thought all players deserve credit as they have really put in a great performance today.
Lets all hope this kick starts are season

The turnout was the only dissappointing thing about today's game!
Loved it. We did batter them at times, if we can play like that more often we will end up in the top third.

Come on negative, AS out by Sept, brigade. That was what this team can do and there's plenty more to come. Brilliant squad we have, but it's bound to take a bit of time.

Excellent game, poor buggers looked shattered at the end. Well done to every player who played their part in very good win and hopefully that's the kick start we need.

What were you expecting though Chopper? It was live on the telly and played in the middle of the night mate. I was thinking around 5500 would be good under the circumstances and that's what we got. Probably 1000-1500 less than it would have been if it hadn't been on SKY and had been played at sensible O'Clock yesterday. Presumably the TV money will more than make up for the missing 1000 odd :shrug:.

Excellent game, we were dominant rather than dominated.

We looked a "team" which was the big difference over last week.

Last Sunday midday game I went to was that famous game agaibnst Fulham, we were almost as good today.

The stamp was before Woodman grabbed his foot, but Woodman did give him a little kick on his way down just to return the favour, though Coke's (should be pepsi cause pepsi is crapmuch like him) reaction was qutie appauling, and for that he should have been having an early shower. But we looked much better Bean being dropped best decision of the season

Hamer didn't really have a lot to do, but in equal measure what he did do was assured and confident (i still feel like Lee should have played but no surprise Hamer jumped the queue)

Still not to keen on Woodman, not really sure what to make of him

Pim and Karleigh worked hard and can't fault them for anything

Spillane was very good going forward, slightly less good but still solid enough at the back

the best performence i have seen from Myles this season, and Wood didn't touch the ball to my knownledge so couldn't do anything wrong

King Kev played brilliantly and was much better than he has been while i still wonder if Dave knows what he is doing, not the same play of last season, i didn't think too much of him when we first got him though

Simpson is a real danger, not affraid to shoot, maybe should cross the ball a but better though other than that still looks like our best player

Alexander works hard can't fault him for that but he has a vicious shot and needs to use it, Hunt did well enough, can't really remember him being too involved to that point

Macdonald was good worked hard and did his job, should turn and shoot more, he had a good chance in the first half but he gave the ball backwards and we kept hold of it so can't complain, and Adams was very good on the ball, though i didn't really know where he was when off it

overall still some work to be done but at the end of the day the best team on the day won and thats the important factor, however well the players did individually they were even better together as a collective unit (TEAM Together Everybody Achieves More) and it wasn't too bad on the eye either.

I'm so pleased. The right changes were made and we gave an excellent account of ourselves on the television and have rid ourselves of that first win stress. Hopefully we can put a few results together now although Bristol Rovers isn't an easily place to follow on. I'm delighted.

Pretty much agree with all that. I'd add that some of Karleighs passes were fantastic, he is better than Pim at distribution.

Also, although Weston never really took their full back apart, he did have a great defensive game, tracking back and getting some edge into his tackles

very impressed with us in the 2nd half, 1st half was pretty even.How we didnt score atleast 4 in the 2nd half is beyond me, Spillane put one right across the 6 yard box, Simpson missed an open goal and hit the bar and what a save Weaver made from Adams but chuffed we got a deserved win.KOC was back where he belongs, Spillane looks a decent attacking RB although a little suspect defending.Want to see more from Alexander though and thought he was poor today but need to use this win as a stepping stone and get 6 points out of the next 6.Karleigh had his best game in ages and him and Pim were solid

That's more like it!

Great performance by every player.

Maybe AS is listening at long last. KOC sat in front of the back 4. Spillane raiding down the wing, particularly in the second half, with Karleigh covering every time he got caught out of position. Better performances from Karleigh and Pim, Woodman & Weston linking well and up front tireless running and hard work from Charlie, Alexander and Simpson.

It was good to see Hamer back but I'm still not comfortable with the way AS has treated Lee but there you go, Andy usually gets it right and is happy to change things if he f**ks up.

Sheff Weds are not that bad a side and have dangerous players in Tudgay, Sedgewick and Teale but they just didn't perform today. Or we didn't let them. Maybe both? Liked Purse - he's the kind of CB you wish you had yourself but hate when playing for the other side. In the space of 10 mins he marked his intent by hacking down Charlie and then studding his backside on the way to his feet, then sent Alexander flying. With a late challenge on Simpson he let them all know he was there.

Glad to have our first win of the season and hope we can push on from here. Bristol Rovers next week are erratic so we can pick up 3 points followed by winnable games against Hartlepool, Orient and Brighton. Play off positions by the end of the month?! :D

my only real problem with him is that he is too hasty to get rid of the ball, which is usually rushed and things rushed are usually done badly, alright if he's been shut down quickly in a defensive position then fair enough, but when he's on the half way line he tries to give an early ball when nobody else is ready for it, he was the architect for the ball in all fairness and i should have credited him for that, but i feel he's not giving 100%, but there isn't anyone to push him (Wood is a left mid, and Blake is obviously not ready because he doesn't make the bench) so he might feel a little relaxed about his position, and thats why, but i didn't say he played badly just not as well as i wanted him to

Best league performance of the season. Pleased for Andy Scott because everyone stepped up to the plate today. Dont think they ever really troubled us and we are off and running at last. Didnt even feel nervous at the end. Very confident we would hold on.

great performance, just a little frustrated that if we had started the season with Spillane at right back, and KOC where he belongs, we would be top 10.

Osborne, lol fair play to the lad, was brilliant today, and the commentators loved him - he is almost the first name on the teamsheet at the moment

Everyone put in a shift from back to front, almost the perfect game for our team and formation today.

With the start the Saints have had, and yesterday's result, this league looks wide open.

Well done AS for getting the team selection right. Spillane is better going forward than he is at defending but he should be given time. KOC's best (only) position is central midfield and KO is a centre half. Our subs bench was full of quality today showing how strong our squad now is.

I've been disapointed, so far. However, today we were very good and battered them second half. Everyone did their bit. So glad I went. How on earth did Coke stay on the pitch?

Hamer barely had a save to make, what a great team effort!

Dave played well, and kev is back to his best position, looking after the defence and playing calmly in the middle, also made a great last ditch sliding tackle at the end.

Pim and especially Karleigh were inspired, Woodman showed what a good defender he is whilst also backing Weston up. Spillane looked like the new Ryan Dickson on the opposite side today.

Weston was great (still needs work on that end product though) Simpson is playing well and will continue to keep Adams out even though Adams looked really feisty. As someone has said, we need to find a way to accomodate both.

Alexander has been good so far, but had an off game today, no worries though. Charlie was Charlie, scurried around after everything and what a great finish.

It all looked good. The team has the potential to be in the mix, come on you reds!

I simply cannot believe I have just read that - he was excellent today, especially second half. Excellent covering, good against people running at him and the best distributor of the back four. If Karleigh, Simpson and KOC had not played blinders he would have been my MOM. My only concerns today were (1) Spillane occasionaly defensively (though he looked good going forward); and (2) Alexander, who looked labourered throughout, though he undoubtedly worked hard. Hopefully this is the start of a string of decent results; you could almost see the confidence coming back into the team as the game went on. Fingers crossed!
