word down here is that Brighton are talking to him

i konw he rejected us a few weeks ago but maybe he was holding out for a championship club-things may now have changed

hes had problems with injuries but we will not find a better target man within our range.brighton have a similar if not worse wage budget than us

worth a punt?get back on it leroy!

should do. hull owe us after taking Turner, and Burgess would fit the bill perfectly for the target man

Leroy tried to bring Ben as part of the Turner deal but Ben said no thanks.

Exactly, if he's changed his mind he'll still know of our interest and Leroy will know if he's talking to Brighton

He would be more appreciated here than Brighton, and is only going there for a holiday. The birds (especially sea-girls) are plenty this time of year, so I dont blame the man.

If Burgess was going to go anywhere in League One i doubt it would be Brighton or Brenford............maybe a Forest or a Swansea............be heres hoping :sorted:

With his injury record of the last 3 years, he will be lucky to get any takers on anything better than a pay as you play deal. His Insurance premium for permanent injury will no doubt also be sky high. :fishing:

I would have thought that Quinn was more realistic...and probably a better option at this stage

why does everyone keep goin on about a target man ??
If leroy wants 2 play football and not hoofball he dont need a target man!
Well i believe we dont need a target man, I think we are going to do well this season with the players we have!

even if we do play it on the ground it is inevitable the ball will sometimes be in the air ie corners.also there are some situations where route one football is the only option.

a physical presence is also required up front however you play

why do defenders go up for corners? AND even if it is hoofed up is it garunteed that the target man is going to get onto the long ball?
Most of the time they cant play with the ball at their feet and i thought that is what Leroy wanted. I can see where your coming from but i dont think we need 1

Worked well with lloydie in the past but........prone to injury and lacks pace.

I liked BBB, but don't come back and potentialy screw up the great memories.

Llodie came back and we expected great things, unfortunatly, through circumstance and injury it hasn't happened.

defenders go up for corners to create an extra presence-we dont need all four back marking 1/2 strikers do we? this is especially useful when the defenders(ie sodje) are better than our strikers in the air.

we relied on sodje a lot from set pieces last year and losing him increases the need for a target man (not knowing what griffiths and heywood are like in the air)

BBB was more than a target man, I can still see that overhead kick going into the Brook Road goal.

Must be, BBB was superb for us.

He's had no luck with injuries since leaving Brentford, they have have stopped us from seeing the best of Ben Burgess, shame really.

Hull City have announced their squad numbers for the season - and Ben Burgess has been given the number 9 shirt - that doesn't sound to me as if they are about to let him go on a free transfer?

18 goal's for us that season cant complain and was very good.

Cost Stockport £400k but injuries :(

6 strikers to pick from... not sure they would really let him go especially not on a free... however i would rather McPhee, Parkin, Panter, Fagan so looks like BBB is down the pecking order so might be let go...

Just read MT profile on Hull's O/S... Parkinson says ;

Hey, Ben Burgess is not a target man, he's a centre forward, a real old-fashioned one at that! It seems that our manager wants to keep him on at the moment though and has said he isn't for sale, and is going nowhere. It could just be an attempt to get money for him, I don't know, but he has been out a long time and we've spent a lot on BUPA fees etc so it would be a shame to just lose him without at least giving him a chance.

In January it may be a different story, I'd say, as to his availability.

PS I've only been to one pre-season friendly, at Donny, but Turner looked very good there, I must say.

Too slow for what? Yes he is slow (or he was when he played for us, I assume he still is), that's why despite his skill he didn't make it in the Premiership. Luckily defenders in League One are a fair bit crapper so he looked like a star at our level when given the chance, so he's *slow*, not *too slow*.

It's a shame but Ben 's career is as good as over. He was never quick, but now he is snail slow. Best left well alone, I'm afraid.

BBB was a class act in a very good side.
We are not as good on paper as that side and he has never looked that classy as he was with us since his departure. How can one forget our win at Edgely Park where they booed him off and we stood as one and cheered him off the park.
