Best Forward Options?

Bearing in mind it is now over 10 hours since one of our forwards scored from open play, what's the thoughts on our best options up front?

At the moment Grabban Schulp but for next year certainly two new strikers.

Haven't seen us recently, but very surprised that Schlupp gets two votes already based on 13 minutes in a Bees shirt!!

I think its more of "give him a go cant be any worse than what we have already got"

Aahh I see! looks like things are even worse than they seem from down here in Somerset!!

still think Fozzy should reconsider the player/manager option. I reckon his experience would be invaluable alongside our young strikers and help to find out which of them (if any) might be worth a longer go.

I'd actually go with three if Saunders is not fit.
Simpson, Alexander & Weston - Reed O'connor & Dave in midfield.

The key is flexibility and movement with the opposition not knowing when and who to pick up it should create more openings and chances and therefore more goals. Our lack of goals isn't soley down to poor front line but limited opportunities per game restrict the amount you score.

NorthamptonBee and robBEEh. The classic little and large combo! Rob was written off a couple of years ago - fitness, age etc, but he's worked really hard and is currently as fit as a flea. Like GA; NB's legs went years ago, but I could see him bullying the opposition. NB's also very good at holding balls.

I think that screams loudly of what people think of our current strikers......NOT GOOD ENOUGH !

And you want to do this with 2 of the slowest forwards on the team

Simpson is not slow, maybe perception but he isn't, would also add you don't need to be quick to make space, Alexanders has very good first touch that can create an extra yard. Some very good players lack pace but their mind is qucker and makes up for it. When Simpson played early season before his injury he was a regualr scorer having lost his marker and made late runs at the far post which found himself in acres of space. He has hardly had any regular starting run outs since getting over a serious hamstring problem which isn't great for him either.
Would also add that pace alone won't guarantee you movement in the right areas either and if your touch is poor you fiind often the second touch is a tackle!!

Joseph & Mahoney.

Those two were on fire that season until Mahoney broke his leg in a cup replay against Swindon. Actually heard the crack from the New Road stand.
If only we hadn't equalised in injury time at the County Ground.

I doubt he has trained since he took over and has said he is no longer a player.

Grabban's pace and control were superb on Tuesday. If he could improve his finishing we'd have a very good striker. From what little we've seen of Bignall I reckon he could be a good player - certainly at Dagenham he was just about our only bright spark on the night!

Interesting choices and it does seem that the general opinion is that in reality none of our forwards are good enough.

I have been wittering away for some time that I feel that neither Charlie or Alexander are good enough to take us forward although I do appreciate that Charlie gives his all and that Alexander does exactly what it says on the tin in that he tries to bully the opposition defenders and therefore allow another striker the opportunity to get on goal. Unfortunately he is not as mobile as we would like and on numerous occassions his first touch is often not good enough.

That having been said I do beleive that in the games I have seen him play with grabban he has had better games which would imply that the runs and pace that Grabban can offer is possibly of more value than the hard work that Charlie puts in and whilst I would never fault Charlie for his effort and work rate and am the first to acknowledge what he has given us I do not beleive that he is the future anymore.

With the cupboard pretty bare Nickey has very little to chose from and whilst the new lad may be good at present he is an unknown quantity, he has pace but based on the short time he played on Tuesday it is difficult to judge his overall abilities. that being teh case I would continue with Alexander and Grabban to start the game however would be interested to see if later in the game the new Kid can take Alexanders place and therefore worry a hopefully tired defence.

At present Al;exander has to fulfill the dual roles of striker and captain and that I beleive is one of the other problems at Brentford in that we seem to have no natural leaders on the pitch who can shake the rest of the team when things go wrong, whether there is any alternative only NF is aware but if other players could take rthe leadership responsibility it might give the manager greater flexibility when considering the forward options.

Difficullt to say because it depends on the defenders were playing against. I would go for GA and NB. Big man, little man. I feel that Grabban has something to offer. I have never seen Schlupp so cant really comment.

That's exactly why GA starts and Nicky persists with him upfront, I too would start with GA and Grabban and see how that goes before tinkering with the new chaps.

Just read on the BBC football page someone is pledging £50 for every goal scored by Spurs today to comic relief. Be a bit of an empty jesture for us though.

i think you will find we scored 2 more than spurs today. and have alot of people forgot alexander has 12 for the season and charlie is has a great finish on him

Wholeheartedly agree. Perhaps NF's only real mistake is not to consider himself as a sub ?

33 shots on goal, no goals... that was clearly either Defoe or Redknapp pledging the wedge.

In the first half, we looked better going forward than we had for several weeks (perhaps since Exeter away in JPT), but we faded badly in the second.

Would like Bignall to get a run-out of more than 15-20 minutes at some point. Schlupp looks as fast as anyone I've seen at GP, but I'm not yet sure if he can kick a ball

Schlupp is very much in the NF mould when he first came here. He was lightening fast but missed as many as he scored. As he gained experience he improved into a good finisher and I think Schlupp could do the same. He has a great mentor in NF in that regard which could be the reason he has joined. One thing is for sure, you can work on finishing, positioning etc but you either have pace or you don't and Schlupp has pace to burn. Would like to see him on a season long loan next season.
