I appreciate this day may be some way off but given the current squad, assuming all were fit and healthy, what would be you team and squad? I'd go for:

-----------------------------Button--------------------------

Logan-------------Dean---------Craig----------Bidwell

------------------------------Mac----------------------------
--------------Forshaw----------------Saville--------------

--------Don------------------------------------Judge-------
-----------------------------Trotta---------------------------

Subs: Lee, Kev, Douglas, Toumani, Saunders, Grigg, Akpom.

I have to say that I couldn't really make a call on the Mac, Douglas, Logan situation which is probably the only major decision other than the inclusion of Sammy. I think the issue is that Mac gives us more than Douglas, who I still rate highly, in the holding role but you then lose out slightly at right back as Mac is also stronger there than Logan. The argument is that the Mac and Douglas combination is perhaps stronger than the Mac and Logan combination! However Shaleum has shown that he can be a class player and I would back him to cut out the mistakes and given MW's attacking philosophy I go for Mac in midfield to drive us to the victories that would take us up.

Also tough on Sammy but I feel Forshaw and Saville work well together and Judge out left will add the class to see us up!

I would switch Mac for Logan and then have Douglas in the middle.

Just tried to work it out but found that when I put Adam, Mac, Saville, Judge and Sam in midfield I ended up playing 12 which created something of a problem: that being the case Sam had to be relegated to the bench which was a but unfair, however:

Button
Logan Dean Craig Jake
Adam Mac George Judge
Clayton Marcello

Have not put JD in the middle as don't think he has been as effective this season and included Judge based on his potential

Bench is quite incredible: Lee JD Sam Griggs Toumani Loan defender Arsenal loanee!!!

Perhaps it should be:
-------- Button --------
Logan Dean Craig Jake
--------- Mac ---------
--- Adam George ---
Clayton Marcello Judge

better to reflect the actualité

It's a squad game.

Are you Uwe? :suspect: :fishing: ;)

We've tried that rotation system and it didn't work too well! :(
Maybe if we did though, KOC and Grigg wouldn't be too rusty? ;)

I am in favour of sticking with a winning team and if it ain't broke don't fix it, but as recent injuries have shown you have to be prepared to change it up.

What I am pleased to see is that in the recent run we've made changes out if necessity, not because the manager thinks the game is played on paper and a technical science!

I'm not a rotation fan either. :sorted:

I know the given wisdom need for secrecy around who is and is not fit but I find it all very frustrating. It feels like we have a cobbled together structure at the moment hence the constant switching around on Saturday. Is there any idea from those in the know if Forshaw and Dean are out for the long term?

I've heard and read conflicting reports but sense if we are getting in a centre back this week Harlee isn't due back immediately. I guess we have a lot of quality in midfield now so thankfully while we miss Adams undoubted class we can cope.

Clearly the last couple of months have taught us that...

After the run we've been on why change it?

There's simply no justification for not playing Saunders at the moment.

My bench would be:

Lee
Logan
O'Connor
Diagouraga
Judge
Grigg
Akpom

Saunders should be ok soon and the other two may take a while longer, then again all 3 may be out for 3 months or they may be ok and raring to go this Friday, but then why let other clubs know what is happening with our injured players and when they are due back? We have a squad that can be utilised and a loan system which can be used. We'll be fine with or without those 3 IMO, we have a quality squad.

Everything coming out of the club since the Vale game has suggested that the injuries are not serious and that they are likely to return for the Gillingham game

Agree,I think this is our best first choice team, with Sam and Akprom ready to spring from the bench.

Like to see Mac driving us forward from midfield, and directing those around him.BIgger personality and all round influence than Douglas, who also is clearly not 100% fit.

Thanks if I wanted a facetious or patronising answer I would have requested it. I was just opening up another line of discussion and hoping to tap into some inside knowledge.

I must admit I like the above post very much. What I would like however is a "little more" explaination into what the club have said to give us all, the hope that they will be back on Friday.

Don't ask the question then

Will it benefit us knowing the answer or the side we're going to play??

Some of the suggestions on here are really stupid.

We know what our best team is, seeing as we won 12/13 or whatever with almost exactly the same team in each game. Why is there any debate?

This forum is getting very fractious lately.

Why don't we all meet up somewhere and have a big fight?
That would sort it all out.

What is concerning me is where does Will Grigg fit in to a formation playing 451/433 he seems wasted out wide and cannot do the lone striker role?

McCormack Dean Craig Bidwell
Saville Douglas Forshaw
Donaldson Trotta Judge

Would be our 'best' 11 if everyone was on form. But currently you'd have to find a place for Saunders due to his performances in the last month or so

AS above but at present Saunders would nick it from Judge although they could be inter changeable. Subs then: Lee, Logan, O'Connor, Diagouraga or Reeves, Akpom, Grigg, Judge. As we we always have at least one if not two players out then Dallas would almost always make bench and likely that so would Diagouraga or Reeves also.

Do we have to keep going over this?! He plays as a central lone striker and did all of last season at Walsall. He isn't in that position at the moment because trotta is playing well.

When he has played in the middle he doesnt look up to it (not as a lone striker) IMO

Cobbled together structure????

We have taken 43 out of 47 points, have demonstrated the strength in depth of the squad by securing wins and a draw with key players missing and have sought to adopt and maintain an attacking policy throughout.
If this is cobbled together, long may it continue.

This would be my team too. Judge is an excellent player but Saunders just gives you that little bit extra chance of something special happening

I think Sam will come in but expect Adam still out so Judge will start as well.
