The BFC Academy today played Fulham at six age groups - and won four of them

Highlight being the u/15's who romped to a very impressive 5-0 victory :bound:

I assume we play Academies of similar standard/category?

I have seen Fulham academy smash our old centre of excellence teams a handful of times towards the end of the Barry Quinn days. They were far superior on those occasions (and the Fulham youth set up is far from good) so it shows how far we have progressed in recent years...keep it going Bees!

BFC Academy

.................good stuff...............

BFC Academy

Fulham's "yoof" set-up has been established for many years with Premiership monies having been thrown at it so ..... :)

They are very strong and well run academy set up.
I watched a couple of their younger age group sides absolutely hammer two decent Molesey juniors sides earlier this season. Very impressed with the coaches and the kids and their whole approach and set up. Beating them bodes well.

Think I may have commented on this before but so what?

I once went to a meeting where the PFA were setting up some new yoot football scheme. Bob booker was our representative there, Carl Hoddle was there from Barnet. The Fulham attendee was exPalace/Wycombe bloke Alan Smith. He was the only one with a secretary there and he paid no attention at all.

The standard of lads who would have been in our youth teams five years ago wouldn't get a sniff in the academy now. The club are now going for potential Premiership standard players as young as six, and getting them. We've got a very good name now in local football at youth levels which is spreading far and wide. The whole arena of youth development has taken a huge leap in the last two years. Really bodes well for the future of the club.

You're right, in the games i mentioned above Brentford always gave the impression of a raggy ar$se rovers set up. Glad we are becoming a lot more pofessional. Mr Benham is such a hero!

Yesterday saw our Academy play Brighton at 7 age groups from u9 – u14, the Bees won 5 of the 6 games :hat:

BFC Academy

A lad, friends with my son went for trial the other week for U18's said there were big numbers there. He made final squad but didn't get taken on. Think the recruiting is doing a wonderful job around local counties. Definitely big club on the up

BFC Academy

seems weve signed a 19 year old from arsenal on loan for a month he has played in the england set through the ranks as is very versatile with his positions ?????

BFC Academy

Lots of kids in West Drayton, Hillingdon and Uxbridge been looked at recently by the Club.

There's a player at ashridge I've been looking at but unless he agrees to leave reading... can't do anything...

What age group is he ?? Does he play Saturdays, if so he wont be in their elite squad, he'll just be training with them and wont be signed.

Too true, would also be good to see the ones who don't make it forging careers as professionals. Off the top of my head, only Karleigh Osborne, Darius Charles, Seb Brown are the only ex-Bees youth products that have graduated since the mid-2000s who are still playing league football.

BFC Academy

Watford recently had their 50th academy player break into first team It can be done and I think we are heading in the right direction.

You've got to wonder if they'll be many more with their new owners. :(

Agree. Their loss will be our gain.
If your a parent of a talented youngster you have to look at clubs that have a good record of bringing young players through the ranks. Obviously Watford is/was one of them.
Over the years I've seen loads parents take their kids off to clubs like Watford Reading Fulham and Palace because we didn't have a great record of youth development.
That's all changed now. We will see the benefit in a few years time.
Another reason to say thank you to MB.

Feb 21st BFC ATP V Arsenal & BHA equivalents

Firstly apologies for the sparse detail – may be Luis could update further.

BFC ATP played host to their counterparts at Arsenal and BHA over several age groups at a very cold Twickenham Academy. The ATP coaches were really busy but I gathered from Luis that all teams had done really well. In my case my sons team U15/U16s played exceptionally well against much bigger and better funded advanced training programmes. Four 0 – 0 draws in 25 min games does not do them justice as they worked and played superbly. The coaches deserve a lot of credit. The BFC ATP team I think is fulfilling it`s remit and I think 1 or 2 of the lads could try and make the step up to the academy.

My son is 14 and the Arsenal centre back looked late twenties to me with a full beard. He could have been his dad …. Leave it Banshee Mildew! My son is a BFC fan and if this is the closest he gets to representing BFC we are both really proud.

Well done to all BFC ATP especially Ahmed, Luis and the boys.

PS: Can the powers that be at BFC please let the ATP boys use the dome when built, as I think they deserve it for their spirit, behaviour and professionalism.

What is ATP?

The Advanced Training Programme is run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

It was set up to offer players with potential or ability who were seen at the Trust's various projects, school curriculum lessons, after school clubs, holiday camps and social inclusion sessions to have the opportunity to train in an environment that puts the player first and foremost to help develop them.

It has also developed into a pathway for player's who are at the right level to potentially progress to Brentford FC's Academy (or Centre of Excellence in the past).

Player's such as Ross Montague and currently Charlie Adams (who was part of the Trust's Futsal Programme) have come via BFCCST ATP.

It has developed now where a match programme is played with other Community Sports Trust's. This week BFCCST hosted Arsenal and Brighton at our venue in Twickenham over 2 days.

The ethos is to create a 'no fear' environment where player's are encouraged to be creative and play good football and that to make a mistake is fine and represents a learning opportunity. A Sunday League Junior football 'win at all costs' mentality is positively discouraged with the young player's we are responsible for.

For most of the player's this supplements their regular club football and we hope that what we coach them gives them an added dimension as a player. Also it gives the player's a great opportunity to represent Brentford FC CST against other like minded clubs.

Brentford will travel to Wycombe to play against them and Leicester City at Easter.

Interesting-thanks for that.

So is the desired outcome that the best players will eventually move into the academy?

I seem to remember a Dan Carrol COE team going to Fulham and winning in the BQ era.

Talking to a QPR season ticket holder whose nephew (much to his disgust is with Brentford) he was saying how great the Bees scheme is - he was watching some 7/8 year olds playing and his words much to his surprise were trying to play football thinking about and playing a pass, then moving not running around like most 7/8 year olds chasing the ball

Pm me with details, as newly ex chairman I would interested to find out who and what I can do to encourage him and parents

Just received a copy of this email sent this afternoon from Mark Warburton to Ose Aibangee

Ose,
I just wanted to send my congratulations on what must have been a most pleasing morning for the Academy. West Ham are regarded as having one of the strongest youth programmes in the country and fully justify their Category One status. For Brentford to therefore beat them at every age group from U9 to U15 is truly an outstanding statement and one that will be recognised and discussed at many Premiership clubs, particularly our near London Neighbours!

Well done to you and all of the Academy staff Ose.
Best regards
Mark Warburton

Ose replied:
Thanks Mark, the boys were excellent. I would also like to mention, that with all what is going on with the 1st Team at present, Uwe and his staff stayed and watched the Academy fixtures today, giving us all a real boost!!!

BFC Academy

You just have to love everything about the Bees at the moment. :love2:

BFC Academy

So proud to support this club when you read about things like this. They say what goes around comes around, let's hope Uwe and the players get the rewards I believe they deserve.

BFC Academy

................yet more good stuff...............

BFC Academy

drove past Uxbridge High School last week.
Barriers going up and a sign showing the new Brentford Acadamy building.
Looks good, with a great big club badge on the front of it !!
will please the local QPR residents no end

BFC Academy

My nephew plays for QPR under thirteens along with Henry Wise (son of Dennis) and Charlie Cooke (Lee's nephew). They have always had the upper hand on Brentford but this season he has informed me Brentford have swept all before them ! I watched them play Brentford and was extremely impressed to see the catchment that we are now attracting players from. After speaking to some of the parents they come from Brixton,Camberwell,Crystal,Palace and Camden and these were areas we would have never had looked at in years gone by yet players are now traveling from these places to be part of Matthew's dream and vision.Well done to the youth academy for all their hard work this season.

Funny you should mention that as I saw a young lad (probably about 12/13) walking through Peckham high street with a full bees tracksuit on. Great to see us snapping up talent over that side of London especially when you take into account Millwall and Charlton only being down the road, both of which have good academies
