BFC scouting network.

I'm interested to know how far our scouting network stretches?

The simple reason I ask is that one of the nine year old lads that I coached last year has been asked to go and train with Fulham. For those that don't know I'm based near Southampton these days and although I expected to get approaches from Saints, Pompey and Bournemouth, I was surprised that Fulham come so far south.

Obviously I'll never talk to the kid or his parents again....

I hope you were a sh*t coach then. ;)

Brentford are certainly active in my area as far as Reading.

The old 90 minute from home rule was abolished I think some time back. Southampton scouts often seen here in Reading/west berkshire.

Well I thought I was but of the squad I had last season, one of them is now at Fulham, one at Reading, another at Bournemouth and my own son is training with Eastleigh once a week.

Southampton have always been very active and were all over Surrey scouting 30 odd years ago. Tudor Rovers in Walton had about 4 youngsters training with them and they took training sessions in the big comprehensives with strong football sides, remember coaches name was Bob Higgins and another 2 or 3 were with Wimbledon.

Bob, contact the club they are always looking for local coaches, I am sure they will be happy to take you on as a Hampshire scout, particularly at the age group you coach.
You may be asked to bring your team up to play against the youngsters that they have signed up, that's what they offered me.

Thanks, Fella. I'm not coaching anymore but I still help out with training at U10 level and think I have an eye for a player. I'll contact the club!

I think it was only abolished for Cat 1 Academies. Cat 2 etc still have the 90 minute rule I believe

Dressed up as helping to get beter players in the England team but in reality yet another opportunity for the Premiersham to steal from the poor

I can vouch for an amazing response when I contacted the club last week about an under 12 player. They were down the next day in the pouring rain miles from Brentford at 9am to watch.
Then contacted me to thank me for the tip off, gave me two free tickets and the boy was due in at Brentford with his parents this evening... quality.

Was it your boy or a relative??

I know the Cambridgeshire area is covered

A few years back now, but Millwall had a satellite training academy in Broadbridge Heath not far from me.We picked up the best players from the local area and they received training sessions before being handpicked and sent off to Dulwich Hamlet to train with the best of the rest.It worked well as when the lads played for their clubs you could see a massive improvement.
Chelsea were at East Grinstead, Wimbledon at Leatherhead,Charlton at Lewes and Southampton at Billingshurst.
Used to enjoy watching local football and inviting kids along.
Brighton have the South Coast sewn up and that area is competitive to say the least.Crawley area fairly strong too.BFC would do well to venture a tad further south.

It wasn't either - one of my pastimes is hanging around local parks watching young boys running around in shorts...

the scouting network is currently expanding... there have been openings recently for both Non-league (16-20 year olds) and youth (U16) scout positions at Brentford.

Bob - is the lad still at Fulham as Brentford have contacted me today and would like to have a look at him after reading this on here.

See you tomorrow fella?

Broken clocks can be right more than twice a day - or of course less frequently. They will only be right twice if they have stopped completely and even then can be right three times on the day the clocks go back or only once on the day they go forward. Of course, you'll never know when a broken clock is right unless you have another clock, which makes the broken clock redundant. Like me.

Just thought I should point that out. Ok, I'll get my coat..........

He wasn't our recomendation, we were asked to fund his transfer. Therefore, although I want to believe that you're the next Jeremy Paxman your last statement failed to cut the salad cream. So for that reason I am out.

I met with Miguel Rios at the club earlier this week (he's the head of recruitment for the Academy specifically ages 6-12) and I'll now be covering the Berkshire area at that age group. If anyone knows of any talented players within the Berkshire area then please do drop me a PM and I'll arrange a time to come and see them play.

Just as an aside I was very impressed by the ongoing plans for the Academy - the future is looking very bright for BFC indeed.

...............last autumn, I recommended a young lad to BFC from Wisbech Town FC, but before BFC could do any thing about it (and they were very proactive, I must admit), I found that he was trialling with Peterborough, with whom he then signed a two-year youth contract (I'm not the usual cover for Cambridgeshire by the way) - I've now moved on to deepest Norfolk, and have informed Miguel (and Stefan(?), if that's his name, Joe Monks replacement I think) that I will be casting my eyes, on an informal basis only, over the local clubs around here - and I too have been offered two tickets, so it does pay us fans to make the club aware.....................

It was abolished when the academy/ centre of excellence 'bridge' was abandoned and replaced by the category 1,2,3,4 academy system.

I'd suggest making contact with Miguel Rios whose details are on the website - I'm not aware that they are looking that far afield but got to be worth a shot?

What about Bedfordshire? I am Chairman and coach at a club with kids from 5-9 but am also heading a program in Bedford to get footie back into lower schools. It means I am dealing with a lot of different teams in the area. Would be nice to know who to escalate too if I see anything.
