I thought this was the salient part of the text:

  1. We are trying to integrate nine new players into the squad
  2. Four of them have never played in the UK before
  3. Six of them have never played in the Championship before
  4. Two of the new foreign signings barely played last season
  5. We have lost eight regular members of last season’s first team squad including the likes of Neal Maupay, Romaine Sawyers, Ezri Konsa and Yoann Barbet
  6. Many of the squad are either coming back from injury, played throughout the summer in International competitions or are still striving to find full match fitness
  7. After a triumphant Transfer Window everything went pear shaped on the final day resulting in Brentford starting off the season without a recognised first team central striker

It's fair, it's certainly not panic stations, but when two results that clearly should have gone your way don't then it leaves you frustrated.

Our underlying levels are good mostly (though there is obvious room for improvement in terms of linking up with the midfield, we haven't adjusted to the loss of Sawyers yet), but you sense that there is that missing level still. It was always going to be a hit and miss first few months, it's just a shame the 'unfortunate' hits have come so frequently at the start.

Still though, you don't want to be the team that starts like a house on fire, you want to be the one that comes into the fore at around November and doesn't look back. It keeps you under the radar much better...

That was a really enjoyable read. Being an eternal optimist, maybe it outlines what I want to believe. However, I'm always willing to be patient with a new team. I too got sucked into the 'last season at gp' hype and the excitement of the new signings. I might not read anything else Brentford-related until ten games is up now!

I thought it was 11 new players, may have got confused
Must confess to being a bit concerned when a Swansea team with 11 changes can beat Cambridge 6-0

Quite a good read - but I'm afraid I couldn't see anything in the piece that hasn't already been said over and over on the GPG.

But keep trying NLB - like the team itself, it'll soon come right. :love:

I follow Euripides’s maxim that “the good and the wise lead quiet lives” so I will refrain from making further comment.

Irrespective of the currently limited striking options, the games similar to those against Birmingham and Charlton would more often than not have resulted in wins. Five games is a small sample. As long as negativity doesn't infect the team's mindset (and whinging fans unfortunately make this more likely) things should turn.

I was impressed by the way they kept playing their football and probing at the Birmingham defence last Sunday until the floodgates opened.

Apart from the last 30 minutes at Charlton when we were playing attack v defence we haven’t shown that fluency.

Hopefully tomorrow.....
