Big Bash

Australian domestic Twenty20 tournament.

Being shown on Sky Sports. The most interesting innovation is the wickets. They light up! Looks like a silly gimmick at first, but when you have a close run out or stumping and the wicket is broken it gives a pretty good indication if a batsman is in or out.

Some English interest too in Luke Wright, Michael Lumb, Owais Shah and later Matt Prior.

I've watched nearly all of the test and then turned on to this. I'm actually starting to detest what they're trying to do to cricket. What is the point of a game where the bowlers don't try to take wickets and the batsman only want to hit it out of the park. Fecking baseball - not cricket at all. Don't get me on to India - they used to love cricket and were hugely knowledgeable but now it seems all they're interested in a close up of their Premiership football style players on the big screen. Hate the way it's going.

My Dad used to love football but completely turned off about 20 years ago saying money had ruined the game. Never understood it but I do now. The way it's going, I'll be the same with cricket one day.

To be fair 20/20 is a good form of the game*, the problem is that there are far too many games.

*Apart from the IPL which is Sports Entertainment like wrestling - Also the standard of the IPL is shocking, i've played with two players who got IPL contracts and whilst they were talented they were not a patch on the Grade Cricketers i've played with from Aus!

Hang on, are they trying to make boring old cricket less boring?

:fishing: Quick, scarper.....

Personally, I think 20/20 is horrible. I couldn't name one classic match, one classic bowling performance but probably a few where a big bloke has hit it a long way.

The two tied games in the super 8's at this years world cup were very entertaining. Particuarly the Windes vs New Zealand one.

Les, best way I can think of describing 20/20 to a non believer, love the test match days like the woman of your dreams, love 20/20 like a youthful one night stand. You won't remember much about it in years to come but once you are there you gonna have as much fun and alcohol in as short as time as possible.

Hampshire v Somerset 2010 was one of the greatest cricket finals ever.
India v Pakistan in South Africa. Game was tied if i remember
South Africa v West Indies. Gayle scores a century and still loses
and of course England v Australia in Bridgetown to win the world cup

Big Bash

I seem to remember I think Pakistan winning a game when needing something crazy like 70 off 18

I remember a certain Indian player hitting 6 sixes in one over :)

IPL would be great if it was shorten to 4 weeks. However players that are involved love it.

Personally speaking nothing better than watching test match cricket .... I blame the English for inventing it :)

Big Bash

No, they're trying to take it to the ignorant and uneducated ..... ;)

 yep, it's brilliant for getting Czechs into it - and then you tell them that it can be so much more than this. our man Jan was trying to get us to watch T20 matches with him last year, we were telling him that 'proper' cricket fans don't watch it, and the last few weeks he's been getting up at 3am to watch Oz-SA tests (he is a south africa fan, mainly to antagonise us i think).

aside from that aspect, the money aspect is huge for the development of the entire sport too. the balance of Tests / ODI / T20s still needs to be ironed out a bit, and for example i hated it when people were criticising England's performance in the last world cup - who cares? it's just hit-n-giggle, if you win it's fun, if you don't you're not 'bad'

I agree. I dont think the World Twenty20 is the be or end all. Its a good tournament with a winner at the end. Not something to lose sleep over. But Twenty20 is great entertainment and produces great cricket. We are seeing now the Twenty20 generation come through into the test team. These youngsters have been playing Twenty20 since they were at school and this shows in some of their imaginative and effective stroke play and bowling accuracy. My other half's granddad, who has very recently passed away, was a huge cricket fan, he played opening bat for Yorkshire 2nd XI after the war, and loved Twenty20. He would often say he would have loved to have played Twenty20 and having the freedom to make some of these audacious big strokes. You wonder what these long gone great cricketers from the past would have made of Twenty20, I think they would have loved it!
