Biggest Flops

By the time that Paul Davis arrived I was old enough to realise that most players were crap and would probably let you down. Ian Bloody Bolton was way before that, he was from a time when signing giants from the top division meant that we would win the FA Cup, World Cup and African Nations Cup on our way to rule the world. Ian Bolton was the biggest flop in my lifetime and will never be matched.

Alan Whitehead

funnell wassnt to bad his goal against the wall kept us up

may was a central midfielder not a winger but he got lumbered . his last few games he played central and looked decent .

whitehead just useless waste of dosh

Biggest Flops

Apart from those mentioned above-

Woodman - really expected something good!

Chris Moore - the Coca Cola Kid

Biggest Flops

Fola Onibuje

Biggest Flops

Skulasson looked good befor his injury but then flopped after it. Can't recall how Funnell did but he was I remember on a TOPPs soccer card...

Davis certainly; Claridge was disappointing but the two biggest flops/letdowns to me were Shipperley and....

Keith Bowen - good scoring record with Northampton Town, then joined us and looked frightened even when it was a 70-30 ball in his favour. 9 goals in 51 games I think ain't great for a poacher.

Biggest Flops

Scott Canham when we signed him :(

He joined a long list of players that were great while on loan, but then dissappointed when we signed them permanantly.

Biggest Flops

KetteringBee can't post at the moment but reckons he is big on the flop.

Biggest Flops

Agree with most of the above but I would add Ian Holloway.

I saw him destroy us one night at Eastville & was really excited when he joined us - but, imo, he was really poor for us. Then he left & became at really top class player at QPR!!

Tbf I think that he was suffering the after effects of glandular fever when with us, but it still didn't stop the disappointment.

Biggest Flops

A couple spring to mind. Steve Jones always seemed to play well against us and then couldn't hit a barn door when he was with us. Steve Claridge too!

More recently, Cleveland Taylor anyone?

Biggest Flops

Leo cost a Fortune Waste and the man from del Monte scored goals galore for their previous clubs but then couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo when they wore the red and white stripes.

Biggest Flops

Steve Claridge

Biggest Flops

may I add to this illustrious list: Scott Marshall. Paid £250k for him - and he was ex-Arsenal, Southampton and Celtic wasn't it? and he wasn't that good!

Biggest Flops

and while we are on centre halves - Leon Townley (ex-Spurs: awful) and Joel Kitamarike (Chelsea loanee who had played in UEFA cup for them in Israel) - awful.

He says in his book that he was still suffering badly from Glandular fever when with us. He admitted he was poor but he did have quite a valid excuse i suppose.

Paul Davis is probably the best shout.

And as also mentioned, Eddie May. I remember meeting a Hibs fan whilst on hols in Greece the summer we signed him. He told me we'd got a real diamond, describing him in a Bill Shankly manner "he's quick, he's tricky, he's strong, he's good in the air etc."

Sold a pup!

Both May and Stan Webb suffered from comparisons with those they were perceived to have replaced: Sinton and O'Mara respectively. Webb would have been poor in any circumstances, but wouldn't otherwise have been so memorably bad. If we'd paid £50k for May at another time, he;d have been an average buy, but at £250k (?) ffor a Sinton replacement, he didn't reach the right level

we paid £167k for may

Tom Finney for me was the worst signing ever. I'll never forget GP cheering when he as taken off totally useless.

That tells you more about Brentford fans than it does about Tom Finney. :(
