Bizarre Injuries

Michael Carberry, batting for England Lions against NZ today, leapt in the air to celebrate reaching his hundred only to damage his leg on landing and had to be carried off on a stretcher. One of the best I've heard. Any more?

Gillingham winger Chris Whelpdale suffered an unusual injury in Monday's 2-1 win at Crawley, as a tackle split open his scrotum.

The 22-year-old was given treatment to the wound, which occurred late on in a victory that extended the club's winning run to nine games.

"It's a horrific injury," boss Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent. "It's absolutely disgusting."

Bizarre Injuries

This is sad, but counts as a bizarre injury I think.

Mansfield Town defender John Thompson has been forced to retire from professional football at the age of 31. He has never fully recovered from the mental scars left by a terrible facial injury suffered in a pre-season friendly in 2011. Ex-Republic of Ireland international Thompson said: "I have desperately tried to get back playing to my full potential for almost two years now. It's hugely frustrating but I'm at a point where I can't continue." Thompson was left with a broken nose and needing nearly 60 stitches in the pre-season friendly against Ilkeston FC in August 2011.

60 stitches! :yuck:

Poor fella.

Bizarre Injuries

sounds horrendous

is there more to it? i tried searching some stuff but sounds like the striker who did it is still at Ilkeston and playing, and "just" got a two week ban... can you imagine if one of our non-league pre-season opponents injured three of our players in one game?! we'd be up in arms...
they had to abandon the friendly, and apparently he slammed the guy into the dugout or something?! madness... was he coked up or what?!?! surely Thompson can sue for loss of earnings, mental trauma etc??

very sad for Thompson, wish him well in his future endeavours...

Bizarre Injuries

i found a couple of other articles with Mansfield fan comments stating disbelief that the Ilkeston striker got away with "GBH" and that he was charging around like a maniac. a couple saying too that he didn't even give much of an apology.

someone gave this link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...mental-scars-years-injured-Gary-Ricketts.html
and someone replied saying "OMG what horrific pictures"
i shan't look as it's the Daily Mail and i just ate :)

I can't get my head round the offender's pathetic punishment. It makes no sense.
