Bobby Madley

Bobby Madley

I was driven to write an article about Manley’s appalling performance in the Birmingham and Orient games when the only key decisions he got right were the two red cards.

He was dreadful and I expect little better on Saturday.
In my time following Brentford he stands out as the worst referee and that's saying something.

He was so bad in those games you mentioned, I was convinced he'd either bet his mortgage against us or we'd wronged him in a past life.

He’s right up there with the worst we’ve suffered but special mentions for Alf Grey, Ray Biggar, Keith Stroud (away from home), and John Moss. There are others but these seem to have been consistently dreadful when they reffed us.

Bobby Madley

He's a poor ref, did the Orient away Trotta game and gave us nothing, remember a clear penalty shout on Saville near the end which he ignored. Thankfully we won and the rest is history.
One of the few things he did get right was to send Tarky off for two yellow cards.

He is Jug Ears, Tarky is an affectionate term and the way he left, both his initial refusal to play and then his u turn and excuse that was fabricated was the behaviour of a snide.
Talented footballer but spineless creep

Bobby Madley

A red card (but a VAR decision and no real impact on the game).

Let Wolves get away with their time wasting antics a bit but did then add on significant injury time at the end of each half.

Felt he was pretty much fine otherwise.

Was swayed by Wolves players into booking Toney but hard to argue with that outcome really.

Felt he should have booked Adams Traore for simulation in the first half as well but you rarely see that from any ref.

Bobby Madley

Total crap ref it's his fault allowing wolves getting away with all there piss taking .

Neves should got booked for dissent then second yellow for foul

Little cheating sh*t 10 should gone for the shirt pull minutes after Bryan got booked for the same.

Even the physio of wolves didn't listen to him says it all.

Bobby Madley

I’m always one of the first to jump on referees for poor performances but IMHO, Madley had a reasonable game versus my expectations.

He could have done more on occasions with the time wasting but he did add considerable additional time at the end of each half, got the red card decision right and most of his other decision making was fine.

He was fine, I thought he could have given a few more yellows for tactical fouls but he got most stuff right today.

Bobby Madley

Seemed better than the majority of the other refs

Bobby Madley

I thought he was ok. Very hard to deal
With all the stoppages and he added on 13 minutes.

wolves would have tried the patio of a saint. Toney was in his face all game. As captain maybe fair enough but deserved his booking

Bobby Madley

I do sometimes feel sorry for refs when players act like absolute ****s. I genuinely do not know what refs are supposed to do when teams play the rules like Wolves did today.
What do they feed the rugby refs, as they appear to take no sh*t and seem to know the laws of the game and take control?

You only know that because they are miced-up. That needs to happen for football refs too.

Giving them headsets won't make them stronger. Or apply the laws of the game. But I hear what you say.

Rugby refs make just as many mistakes. Just because the players culturally behave like naughty schoolboys in front of their head master doesn’t mean all the decisions are correct.

It would be an easy one to fix, speak to the ref and you get sin binned. Football has changed, the Wayne Rooneyesque screaming f words at a ref from 2 yards with spittle flying everywhere is largely a thing of the past. Footballers aren’t hard men anymore, they aren’t allowed to be.

I want to see tactical fouling, kicking the ball away, stopping free kicks, time wasting and blatantly feigning injury (tough one to prove) rewarded with 7 minutes in a sin bin.

Never mind your stupid var offside bollox, that adds nothing to the game.

Bobby Madley

I really didn't like his performance today.

Although I didn't think he made any particularly bad decisions, I really got the impression he wants to be centre of attention. I haven't felt like that for many seasons with any referees we have had, even dreadful ones.

Mate, wtf are you on about?
I saw Sa, Podenz, Moutinho, Kilman and Mee all down prone for at least two minutes each in second half. Add to that 6 subs at 30 secs for each that takes us well over 12 minutes and we know that the ball was only in play for 44 minutes all game.
I think Madley had a f***king nightmare and isn’t fit to ref but agree he was right to book Toney who capped off a terrible performance with a cheap yellow. I’d make him travel to Forest and sit on the bench if I was Thomas.

Ref added plenty of stoppage time.

When players are feigning injury you can’t really book them for time wasting as you have no way to prove they aren’t hurt.

Not sure what else he could have done really?

I agree in terms of getting most things correct.
A few odd decisions, one late on where the Wolves players virtually told him to book Damsgaard and he did !

Brave with the early booking on Samedo.
But bottled giving a 2nd yellow to mini podence in the 2nd half.

Not a lot he could do with the Wolves players going down "injured" maybe a booking for the physio who kept walking the long way off, very slowly but as he is on the medical team I'm not sure this is appropriate, so hopefully this'll be dealt with after the game. In the same way an errant ball boy would be spoken to.

What he could of done is play on as the ref at the Chelsea game did. Players soon get up when the game doesn’t stop! As someone else has said , if a player is down for 3 minutes, he goes off to “recover” for 3 minutes. It won’t be too long before this time wasting stops. It’s ruining football for the spectators!

You can stop the watch though and he indicated he was but nowhere near enough time given 46 minutes out of 90 the ball wasn’t in play

San Rafael of Cordoba in Spain.
Patios in Autumn is celebrated on October 24 th which is San Rafael day.

"Los Patios de Cordoba" festival of flowers.

Bobby Madley

If I dont notice the referee then I know he has done alright. Didnt realise Simon Rattle had a job on the side

Bobby Madley

In rugby injured players are treated while play goes on. Ref has the discretion to stop play if it's clearly a serious injury. Applying this to football would soon stop the antics Wolves showed today e.g. the keeper sitting down just long enough for the centre half to get his head bandaged and reappear. Not the refs fault as such but maybe the rules need tweaking.
No.4 got Toney booked for his collision with the keeper. No. 10 pulled Ajer's shirt and didn't get booked (would've been his second) just seconds after Bryan did get booked for what looked like a similar offence. I thought Madley was weak from the off.

Yep agree with this. Only poor decision for me was the failure to give Podence a second yellow for a shirt pull just moments after booking Bryan for exactly the same thing, the only difference is that the angry midget was already on a yellow and Madley obviously didn't wan't to issue a red.

Exactly. He did play on once and surprise, surprise the Wolves player got up as soon as he realised the game was continuing.

Bobby Madley

He did fine, he can't add 13 minutes on top. He added 7 minutes and we had to deal with it, we couldn't. I'm not going to blame him.

Bobby Madley

Was fine as far as I was concerned. Possibly could have seen through the Sa business, but there wasn’t much he could have done.

Bobby Madley

Wolves screaming for the game to be stopped when their man was down, it broke to I think Costa on the half way line and he headed straight to our goal, he didn’t consider knocking it out for his wounded team mate to receive treatment. The keeper clearly “played” the ref, but I should imagine the ref knew he had a pre-existing injury so didn’t challenge him on it. Turning the tables, Wissa went down on the edge of the box, looked intent on staying down, ball broke and he was up like a spring chicken, Vitaly went down in the centre circle, was signalling intently for the bench, but was fine to carry on. Obviously some knocks, impact injuries must feel like they have done some damage immediately but a reassuring quick session with the physio is all the little loves need.

Neves controlled the ref throughout and Podence is just a cheating, whining, little next Tuesday.

Bobby Madley

Allowing treatment on the pitch (unless it's in the penalty area maybe) is the only answer I can see to timewasting by playacting. Refs just aren't qualified to assess injuries, and could get slaughtered in these days of greater concern about head injuries. All they can do now is to add on time, which yesterday's ref was good with.

Worth noting also that two of the incidents which got Brentford fans riled yesterday ended up with an injury substitution and a player leaving the pitch to get bandaged. So maybe we shouldn't be too quick to judge either.

It looked bad because the incidents were straight after each other, but Bryan was clearly trying (and failing!) to stop a dangerous break, but Podence was just grappling with our player. I'd still have loved to have seen him off though, he's a good player as well as an annoying little sod.

Bobby Madley

Thought he was weak allowing their physio on and then not making him go off behind the goal instead of on the side of the pitch.

When Sa went down I would have loved for him to have the courage to wave play on and refuse to let the physio on. Sa was only feigning injury to allow time for Kilman to get bandaged up, it was so obvious.

He also blew after 9 minutes of injury time but the time it took for the Costa red card to be sorted that definitely took more than two minutes.

Bobby Madley

He allowed Wolves to dictate the tempo when apparently referees are instructed to let the game flow. He was the worst referee we’ve had in the Premiership!

Didn’t Wissa do that in the first half?

Bobby Madley

Managers / head coaches / assistant coaches can all be carded, but what about medical staff?!

Madley clearly pointed to the direction he wanted the physio to exit the pitch, the physio blatantly ignored him and did what he wanted, in order to waste time / slow the game down, so what can be done in that scenario?

Nothing I suppose, because who would then medically treat the fakers.

Is there one physio these days or a team of them?

Bobby Madley

Thought he was weak allowing their physio on and then not making him go off behind the goal instead of on the side of the pitch.
When he told the physio to go off via the shortest route and the physio just totally ignored him and strolled off in the opposite direction, that summed him up for me. He was weak and showed no authority at all. There wasn’t much he could have done about a number of the time-wasting issues, but that was one opportunity he had to show he was in charge and was not standing for unnecessary nonsense - and he completely bottled it.

Bobby Madley

You can stop the watch though and he indicated he was but nowhere near enough time given 46 minutes out of 90 the ball wasn’t in play
Totally agree. Yes, he added 6 extra minutes in the first half and more in the second but it was nowhere near equal to the amount of time lost during the game through substitutions and Wolves‘ gamesmanship . I know we all do it but Wolves took it to another level.

I would suggest behaviour of the medical team is dealt with after the game.
In the referee 's report but we'll never know if he bottled this or not.
Generally he did OK, with a few exceptions, at the end of the day, looking at the cold, hard, stats, a draw was fair and we didn't do enough to win.

Madley was not a factor in the result.
