Brennan Johnson

In total since January 2021, there were 115 pages and 5644 posts over 5 transfer windows about signing this young man. For context, the will he, won't he Christian Eriksen thread last summer ran to 91 pages and "only" 4534 posts.

I fear that people may need help overcoming the obsession so am starting this thread for those who want to track his career. ;)

I'd probably be just as interested in tracking the future career of Brendan [sic] Johnson, Associate Lecturer, Department of Art and Music at Solent University.

I think in about 20 years time there'll be crowds of people shuffling around the streets of London and surrounding areas wearing Brentford shirts with Brennan Johnson's name on the back, telling anyone who will listen what a great signing he was in August 2023 and what a great servant he's been to the club, a bit like those Japanese soldiers still fighting WWII 30 years after it finished.

Nah, they’ll be wearing “Saïd, come home” shirts…

He’s a talent. Interesting to see how he progresses with the pressure on that fee on him. Too much imo, but we’ll soon see….

How is that an obsession

That's only 941 posts per transfer window!

Is Eriksen's 4,534 posts a record for a single window?

I think.realistically he is a very good player with a high ceiling (much like Mudryk) IF they are in the correct environment.
In the wrong environment (as Mudryk is currently showing), its very hard to achieve that progression and growth.
Only time will tell for both, but in my opinion, come 2027, they would both be in a better position had they signed for us when possible, rather than their current clubs.

Brennan Johnson

Nah, standard - 5 goals, 5 disallowed, 2 reds, 4 red checks, game lasted over 110 minutes.
And according to the paper, the home fans gave their team a standing ovation at the final whistle.

After they'd just lost 4-1. At home. To Chelsea.

(Sorry, thought I was in the "Weird Things Happening in Football" thread)

He's getting almost as much flak online as Onyeka is.
Good. He’s overrated and basically not up to it. He’s absolutely not Premier League quality. Weird we ever went for him unless we had a thorough plan to re-programme him into an actual footballer.

It’s all Phil G fault.

99.357% certain he’d have done well for us if we’d signed him any of the times we tried.

Sometimes going to the bigger club for more money isn’t the best move from a purely sporting perspective. I doubt he cares on the basis of his bank balance.

I tend to agree, I get the sense he would have been flying with us being the big fish in the small pond but the pressure that goes with being at Spurs is impacting on him.

I’ve assessed him using all credible metrics, run my findings past that child who is now QPR’s new CEO, and can state with authority that Brennan is Upper Tier ‘Billy Big Balls’.

Based on this assessment he’d have failed our No Dickheads test.

I foresee a loan to Stoke in the summer.

I see the typical football fan logic of oh he didn't sign he must be sh*t is firmly kicking in here.

I think he has ability although he hasn't set the world alight at Spurs.

But he has more premier league goals then Schade and KLP combined. So maybe we shouldn't be so dismissive on the basis of one game.

Agree his final ball is not up to it. But I remember when Ryan Giggs was his age (22) and you could have said similar about him too. Certainly Johnson has a lot to learn, but Spurs must feel that they can coach that into him.

If Bees were prepared to smash their transfer record for him, I'm guessing Thomas & Co felt they could coach it into him too.

Brennan Johnson

I feel that's likely too but I can't help but feel the level of vitriol on this thread would be significantly lower if we hadn't chased him for so long.
Maybe from some. Not from me. Didn’t rate him at Forest - or, at least, didn’t think the hype was justified.

Absolutely right. Don't know why fans do this - assume it makes them feel better.

We wouldn't have spent all that time and out of this world bids to get him here if he was rubbish, lazy or a d*ckhead. It pees me off that he dicked us around and didn't come here, but for some to suggest he isn't PL quality is just a bit silly.

I will, however, take great pleasure in him being a far worse player elsewhere, than had he come here.

I just watched him in a game where he was sh*t and lazy. ?‍♂️

I’d agree having watched him in a few games now for Spurs. As I posted earlier Forest fans said he didn’t track back and help out. However, had he joined us I think he’d be a different player. It’s taken TF a while to remould a few of our players I honestly think he’d have done that with BJ.

When we first noticed him at Lincoln it was a good spot at a good price for a promising player. That we were still chasing him in the PL for figures reportedly in excess of £40m was a bit scary and I'm glad he went elsewhere.

Maybe other PL clubs will shy away from pursuing our targets given the less than stellar starts Mudryk and Johnson have enjoyed at their existing clubs?

They were obviously both red herrings on our part, but nobody realised at the time......

Just taken a look at Johnson's record since joining Spurs in mid-September. For the first few games, he was mostly used from the bench (might have had fitness problems?), but since starting against Chelsea on 06 November, he has started all their 13 league games since. Of course Spurs have had injury problems, but I thought that was chiefly in defence/midfield?
Meaning that whether he has been "stellar" or not, Spurs seem happy with him at a time when they've been doing pretty well.

As for Mudryk, from what I've seen he's been far from "stellar", I'll give you that. But they're such a basket case these days that you could say the same about most of their other players, including (ahem) their stars.

Will be interesting if Spurs follow up their reported interest in Jonathan Rowe with a bid.

Both appear to be a natural fit on the right side of attack.
