Shows how scary it is to run a football club. The divide will widen when the fair play rules are implemented throughout the football league. This is why LR and the Academy are so important now.

Brighton's financial warning

clubs will go under, I can see it..

Paying too much on wages I would think chasing the dream.

I wonder if the commercial side of the Amex is not as good as one thinks after all it is very much "out of town". Nice views of the Downs but hardly in the centre of things and not that easy to get to.

The article says they have the highest average attendance in the Championship at 25,579!

They do well on matchdays but what about non matchday income which I thought was one of the big earners with these new stadiums?

I believe it was what did for Millwall. They thought the New Den would rival other big London venues but found people did not want to go to darkest Bermondsey for their night outs...

Something we should do OK with maybe in delightful Kew!

also linked to that link is this http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17841566

Youth investment and accounting charges from past spending on players and stadium-building will not be included.
QPeeR made a loss of £25.4m in their promotion season and would have been fined an estimated £3m if the new regulations had been in place last year - after excluding unaffected investments, such as youth spending.

Falmer is opposite the univeristy so they could easily target the uni market, hosts conferences etc.

There's probably conference facilities in both of the Universities.

Haven't read the article but I was under the impression they were a model of how to do things well. Silly me. Isn't there benefactor similar to ours? Thought he made his money similarly. I maybe wrong again though.

Aswell as uni, should they be targetting the pink pound more? Sign a known gay, help them 'come out' and kerching.

£8,000,000 loss over a season = 8,000,000/21/25000 loss per ticket sold. This is over £15 per ticket, a quite remarkable sum and ours is much higher. Salaries paid to players are going to have to go down quite a bit otherwise every team will be fined at the end of the season.

Brighton's financial warning

Does anyone know if there is a period of grace for clubs getting promoted to the Championship, or are they subject to the same limits immediately?

I think the sanctions increase year on year, so as to not issue severe punishments as soon as the rules are introduced.

Probably are but I know Sussex had to cut back due to massive budget cuts, as I were due to go there but they couldn't afford to keep the course open at the time so I ended up at UEA!

Brighton's financial warning

The Amex hosted a fair few Christmas dos this year and from what I can gather they were well busy.Cannot comment on the conference side, but my eldest is at Sussex Uni on the other side of the A27 and that's one busy Uni.It doesn't need,it seems,to hire out its facilities to gain income.

It was well stewarded when I had to pick up from there and I wouldn't like to say how many people are employed by BHA.Its going to take a while for the Amex to pay its way and it needs dos every week which it may not be getting.

Lots of season ticket holders down there I know, but many I meet are not BHA.Not many went to Withdean. Are they the Foolem of the south coast.Impression I get.

Still if they are losing £160,000 a week that's a shed load of dough to claw back.they may well have to get those extra seats in sharpish I think.

They have cut courses, lecturers etc but they are expanding and building every year.

Yep, I was one of the lecturer's that was cut. :(

They do a lot of conference trade each year and are looking to expand it, not cut it.

Brighton's financial warning

well they have a nice little home tie against Arsenal now.. should help a bit..

as things stand today I wonder if we would meet FFP if were to go up this season and then remain in the championship until FFP kicks in 2014/2015

FFP has been in place since 2011/12. The level of investment decreases each season from then. See FL link above.

Brighton's financial warning

that link says championship sanctions start in 2014/2015....

Every University has, with no government funding they have to rely on the most profitable courses or those with a large amount of non-EU students. Expansion and building works will almost certainly be funded by and used for research.

I thought I did......anyway rather than argue would we meet it or not if we were to fast forward to the start of the season after next and our finances are the same, we are still at GP but we are in the champ?

yeh i did....anyway rather than argue would we meet it or not?

"FFP kicked in" nothing about 'sanctions starting....

FFP has been in place for the last 2 seasons. Sanctions kick in, in 2014/15.

As for Brentford and complying? No idea.

I'd imagine MB's current £5mill "investment" a year will be ok. It's how long BFC take to build LR and for the academy to start producing talent. As long as every club are checked by the FL and no favouritism is applied...

Rogue apostrophe - tut tut! Hope you weren't teaching English... ;-)

Sussex must be an exception, they have built new lecture theatres, seminar and meeting rooms and accomodation in the last year. No idea how this is funded etc
