I don't appear to be able to start a new thread so I'll post here. How is that stand we were in today not condemned? Wooden floor and underneath and very narrow walkways and passage below. I thought it was very dangerous and much worse than New Road!!!

Never had been before, but first thought for me was they were playing Premier Manager 97 on the old Mega Drive and couldn't yet afford to upgrade from wooden seats to plastic.



Cramped into that stand like sardines, and the concourse area - God, that is tiny for the amount of fans they have go in there. Surely that is a hazard. God forbid something dangerous happens in that stand, people wouldn't be able to get out under the stand in a quick, safe manner surely?

A trip down memory lane... what a game that was! Not overly complicated like the football manager games are today. Any ideas of where this sort of game is available without the bloody thing crashing after 3 seasons?

Getting back to the post, I agree it was basic. Plywood seats were definitely the cheap seats - ha ha!!!

read the instructions on using the game on pc as its not that obvious to start with... can even save the game and continue at later........ the site has a lot of old Sega games...

It is a ground similar to GP in that they have downsized it to build flats on the land to an such extent that it has no future. A 9k capacity condemns them to them to the lower leagues on a long term basis.

I agree about the safety. I had already decided that if there was an incident, i was going on the pitch and not even going to try to get through the tunnels. I am sure it is why they were so hot on smoking - fair enough after Bradford and Griffin Park fires. There was a decision not to serve alcohol for this game for some reason.

On the plus side for them, i thought the pitch was superb. In fact i think it helped us and as soon as i saw it, I thought we could do it.

On the way out, heading towards the gangway and saw a guy hopping across the emptying rows of seats. Fine progress was made until he stood full on one seat - and went right through it, with embarrassing horizontal consequences!

What's old fashioned about flats with there balconies being within touching distance of fans.. The main stand would be more at home in at a horse racing track than a football club

Ok you post stated good old fashioned ground. I obviously missed the reference to the seating which is really the only thing old fashion about it. The stands behind the goals and horse racing main stand are new so it's really just the broken wooden seats and the stand we were in that are old and oh traditional.

I found the seats a bit ***** but didn't consider the place any less safe than most grounds I've been to.

My visit at the end of last season was dull though, so we spent most of the second half chanting to the people in the flats.

"Baby, give us a wave ..." on repeat until said infant did indeed wave.

I think we drew 1-1.

The old main stand is past its sell by date and I can't believe the West Stand has no rails down the stairs. Would be pretty easy to go flying there.

It was rumoured Hearn was looking at a new ground in the Harlow area to shift their fan base as a number come from that way, not sure that FL rules would allow that now. They could rebuild the East Stand and maybe get capacity up to above 10k but I can't see him putting the money up for that.

Definitely, and having it packed full of us made for a top atmosphere which was a huge part of what made yesterday such a good experience. Their other stands are just plastic and dull.

Furthest seat number 195 on the far left hand side of stand half way up so virtually level with penalty spot of goal we defended first half. Don't recall sitting on the tiny wooden seat at any time which might have been difficult but able to stand as not obstructing anyone else and folks in row behind all standing anyway. Had it been raining we would have got very wet as no cover but on Saturday it was just perfect and close enough to communicate our joy effectively with the O's fans which I'm sure they appreciated.
Have to say surrounded by a crowd full of real supporters all getting behind their team and making the most of being a Bee, great singing, great backing and plenty of good humour.

As regards the fire hazard of an old wooden stand, I thought there was a rumour going round their fans that the old stand has so much asbestos in it that it would cost a fortune to decontaminate it for re-building etc.

If so, maybe we were all in more danger from Asbestosis than Fire?

It was a pleasure being surrounded by top Bees all round on a great day. I trust a lot of the youngsters who previously thought they invented singing recognise us vets still can make ourselves heard once in a while.
