Are you serious?

I ask because both my late grandfather(whelks and cockles) and late father (afficianado of the finest winkle) were devotees of the stall there (and the one at the Coach and Horses at Kew). A part of my history will sadly pass if he (actually it has been the same woman since time began) goes.

Hi Joe,

The first post states the following from the meeting:
------
GP and Lionel Road

* There are now 2 developers interested in GP and one property finance company who say they have identified a second site in the borough.

* BB and JM had a meeting with the SRA a couple of weeks ago. Nothing has changed - the SRA sold the Lionel Road site to another company 2 1/2 years ago. The paperwork still isn't finalised and the SRA are happy for BFC to talk with the other company to see if they can strike a deal and let the other company have some commercial property on the site while we have the ground. Ground will also accommodate Hounslow PCT and other organisations. Monorail from Heathrow mentioned.

------

I would assume then, that John Mac will be meeting soon with the prospective purchasers of the Lionel Road site. However, with seemingly not much happening at the moment on this, do you know what else John Mac does in his full time role?

beesbeesbarmyarmy,

Your assumption with respect to the organising of further meetings with the prospective purchasers of Lionel Road is correct, I believe.

There was a question to Bees United last year on John Mcglashan's role, following the appointment of a general manager. The link below takes you to the published answer:

http://www.beesunited.org.uk/features/2004/garybullockquestions.html

Further to the recommendations of the recent BU governance review and the appointment of a C.E.O. last month, the remits of all the club directors are currently in the course of review by the BFC board.

Thanks Joe,

There seems to be an assumption from some people that John Mac is working solely on a new stadium, when in fact he does have other responsibilities too. It will be interesting to see what changes are made to the remits once they are reviewed, however it does seem strange to me why this wasn't done before Mr Finch was employed.

Not having a dig, a legitimate question: Could someone please tell me what these other responsibilities are and how his success or otherwise is measured?

Boston,

Sometimes I think we tend to forget that the administrative staff complement at BFC is very small in number and all working from the same office space. There will inevitably be a crossover of work and more than one person involved in progressing projects. I believe this is the case with John Mac and other staff.

From the BU board's point of view, I think success or failure is measured by outcomes and achievement of both quantative and qualative targets - these have been broadly outlined for the short, medium and long term as follows:

- achievement of short term financial targets (breakeven before interest) that include progress with increasing average gates.
- securing financial stability of club in the medium term through development of new income streams and acquisition of majority shareholding, if available on realistic terms and viable.
- development of a bankable project for a new stadium

Ahem.......not quite.

So Joe, was it put to and agreed with the Bees United board that John Mac would be spending most of his working time allegedly away from Griffin Park, and to whom does he report on a daily basis.

Well why didn't you say so before Joe........

Now that I understand that "a decent level of customer service" is not even on the radar screen it explains why emails are unanswered, the Q&A forum has been closed down without any explanation and the official website would be crap without Martin Allen's input.

I've got it now......... :)

abee,

The last paragraph of the answer to the question last year, spells out the position:

The views of BU board members and supporters (including the suggestion that remuneration could be performance related) have been passed to the BFC Chairman and have been discussed by the BFC non-executive board members. Whilst the BFC board are receptive to views and suggestions they ultimately have to make decisions, based on all the information available, that they believe are in the best interests of BFC. This includes the appointment, responsibilities and remuneration of BFC employees.

Working arrangements for staff of the club are left exclusively to the BFC board who have both the authority and responsibility for these matters.

John has given a regular report on club affairs to both the BU and BFC boards at their monthly meetings. The new C.E.O. will, I expect, undertake the preparation of operational status reports for future board meetings.

I'm confused and am in need of enlightenment. I have spent the last week reading GPG for two to three hours a night in order to get up to speed with you all and am not sure that I am any better off, other than the slightly different history to that on the BFC and BU website.

John Mac should be reporting to Chair and to both boards, neither of which have any teeth? The BFC board sort of reports to the BU board but because BU don't own BFC BU is not in full charge. Meanwhile the longterm fans don't trust anybody who is in a position of responsibilty and there is no realistic way for the supporters to force a showdown to this mess other than by massively boycotting the matches which won't help anybody.

Cough..........on the subjects that suit him.

If any common or garden member of the BU board "outer circle" does not have a copy of the offers for Griffin Park from the property development companies involved then they should ask John Mac when he next reports and if he ducks and dives then your old friend abee could be persuaded to forward copies in exchange for a suitable donation to the Andy Scott Testimonial Fund......... ;)
