£80 odd quid and a 5 hour journey on the trains - think I might be driving for this one!
Booked my parking already… it feels like it’s a European Tour with over 4h driving, without calculated stops, each way for me, further for my son to our RDV.

Parking is one thing Burnley has plenty of. Last time it was 60p all day in the town shopping centre car park!

Any suggestions as to what to do in Rochdale for 44 minutes?

80 quid in petrol and a 10 hour round trip ?

let the rain take the strain #cans
No unfortunately its the train that is a 10 hour round trip and 80 quid - driving is about 3 and a quarter hours... its one of those tricky ones to decide what to do...

I’ve booked Masonic Hall parking .. it was £10 but it’s supposedly easier to get back to the motorway. Last time it took ages from where we parked to get out of Burnley.

Ah not a problem for me as I head away from the motorway to get back to NW Leeds!

While I am figuring out whether to drive or train it - pedant alert - isn't this thread in the wrong forum? :fishing:

I drove 21/22 and it was a horrible drive but easy to find parking in the church pretty much opposite. (On the day too) :sorted:
We stayed over in Chorley, which has plenty of good pubs etc and only 25 minutes from Burnley.

Will probably go for a very cheap pint in the Sam smiths pub then get back on the train. But I am considering a weekend in Rochdale if I really need to offload the missus one day. Ty for all advice.

Looked at train fares from London to Burnley for me and my 9 year old son. Turns out that it is actually cheaper to fly!! From Heathrow! With KLM! Via Amsterdam! To Leeds/Bradford International! That's how messed up trains fares are...

Travelling on the train.... up via Leeds and back via Manchester, about £90 altogether, no railcard.

19:15 from Manchester to London was about £41 via split ticketing.
Wanted to go back via Manchester so it's possible the Leeds route was a bit cheaper.

Preston is yet another option but connections not great going up (5 mins to change for the hourly connection) and quite expensive coming home.
