Bury by train?

To anyone going to Bury by train on 1 September:

In normal circumstances you would probably connect at Manchester Piccadilly for the Metrolink service to Bury.
However Metrolink are reporting that the service is not operating between Manchester Victoria and Bury.

Metrolink advise at Piccadilly you board a the tram showing Victoria as the destination and alight at Shudehill. At the bus station there, Stand G, take the X1 bus service which is the Metrolink replacement express service to Bury, which will take approximately 40 minutes.

I think it will be quicker to get a local bus from near Oldham Street, unless things have changed in the last seven years then turn right out the station and walkf for five minutes till you get to Oldham street on that Road there will be buses to North Manchester. Cannot for the life of me remember which one, 164 maybe? Worth looking it up on the net or getting a Manc based bee on here to confirm :computer:

nothings changed, there are direct buses. dont get the one that goes through rochdale, its a mission. get the express or any of the "ninety something" buses. if your drinking in manchester rather than bury get off before the bury bus station as gigg lane is passed enroute. its hidden but there will be a small(ish) sign saying "next fixture" on the manchester road. keep your eyes peeled cos thatll save you 20 minute walk. theyll be a yellow petrol station (think its a shell) on the left just before it.

I got a bus to Oldham last season for the first time from Manchester City Centre which ran more or less past Boundary Park. Certainly seemed quicker to me than getting the tram to Victoria, getting a train & then a longish walk to the ground.

Fine, but we're not playing Oldham this season.

Could anyone who knows the area check out the details on the BIAS Web Site and let me know if it makes sense.
It sounds like there a number of options, so it's probably best if I just concentrate on one or two options.

stedders, I would ignore 'stop tc', think it's just some hypertext from what I cut and pasted rather than a specific bus stand.

What's the approx price of a cab from Manchester Victoria to Gigg Lane?

There are two pubs around the ground worth a visit, the Pack Horse is on the town side of Manchester Road is not bad and about 2/3 mins from Gigg Lane, however the best pub is the Swan and Cemetry which is about a 5 min walk away the ground and is very friendly, has a cracking garden if the weather's decent.

Who's going to this game?

Me, but god knows why I am travelling all that way for such a s..t ground. Maybe the promise of a good weekend in Manchester has something to do with it.rofl

Been there often then have we. Pot calling kettle

More than enough times to know what a dump it is. As for the pot calling the kettle black, I don't recall saying that Griffin Park is anything special.

Furthermore, from where I travel it is an awful long way for a poor ground and what will probably be a poor match. But there you go just an opinion:wave:

Who's going to this game?

Not me! I looked at the fixture list and decided to go to France for some late sun... will miss my 'local' fixture in Swindon, too... oh dear, how sad. :suspect: back in time for my special guest TV appearance on the industrial estate.

Thats interesting. I've been there loads of times and always thought that Gigg Lane is a decent ground for this level. It looks like they've made further improvements since I was last there as well.

anyone else noticed the proximity of Gigg Lane, to the "Heywood Distribution Point"....

Could be an idea, drop drop off any unwanted "Heywoods" we might have....
