Butcher: plan B?

Its easy to tell the quality of the players in the team, if other teams in the division would have them in there starting line up, and with the exception of MOORE, who isnt even ours :( ... no team would want any of them... ps i just hope theres two teams worse than us.

We have several players who DID play in this division last year plus 5 players on loan from a higher division, and you reckon that none would get into any other league two side.....doh!!

Close this silly thread!

I have only seen 1 other team in this division so far this season and they could not beat us so I will reserve judgement until I have seen a few more.

I'm not going to knock you mate. Your a fan and your entitled to your opinion.I went on sat and although we were ripped apart at times we played some good football. But I also share your veiws on how easy Mansfield went through us at times. But we will get better and I thought the football we played on Sat was better than what I saw last season. Like you i'm nervous but I have faith in the butch and the scott.

I think you need to manage your expectations better.

We can all hope, dream or pray for automatic promotion but it's highly unlikely and that's not being negative it's being realistic.

TB and AS may have the motivational skills of MA, possibly the ability to spot a player like Steve Coppell, and the tactical nous of Arsene Wenger and they'd need it to get the current permanent squad members up this season.

The budget may be one of the highest but don't forget some of it is tied up in players neither the fans or management want or can get rid off yet so slightly unfair.

I think you and others should prepare for a season of consolidation and accept that as long as we can see progress on and off the pitch. Reluctantly, I'll accept that this year although like most will still be hoping that we find another DJ and Michael Turner and Sammy Moore develops into the new Paul Evans.

At the very least I hope we're able to consolidate. I doubt we'll go down. We've played 2 games and drawn both (one of these games being against a side who are ones of the favourites to win the League). There is no need to panic yet. I hope that first win will come soon though.

Butcher: plan B?

With a top goal keeper ben hammer we will be ok oconner up front because he sh*t at the back

Butcher: plan B?

they havent had a chance to gel yet, and look at the type of teams we play in this division. And only 2 go down.

We will bee fine :sorted:

Two games down, forty something to go. We'll stay up and in style. All those nay sayers will probably do an almighty votle face if we win 6-0 on Saturday.:fishing:

6-0................. as Kevin Keegan, once said.. I WOULD LOVE IT....I WOULD LOVE IT IF WE BEAT THEM,..:D

Its this consolidation business that really worries me. I thought that teams who got promoted tried to consolidate, whereas teams who got relegated tried to bounce back. If all we are doing is trying to consolidate then we can all look forward to a good few more years in the wilderness of the basement division.

Considering the season we had last season I'd be very happy with everything to have improved on and off the pitch.

Of course, we were doing ok 5 games in last season...
:sneakoff: :D

Butcher: plan B?

building a football team takes time - especially from where we were last season.

have a little faith and give our new manager a while to organise the players we have and, who knows, he may yet bring in.

Butcher: plan B?

BERK ... am i WIBS. not gonna say i told you so....... but i know my football and most of all i know my team... god help us..

That's not true. There's plans C to Z. Unfortunately each plan must be tried out for a few minutes every match.

Well, you've got to do something if you've not done your homework properly.

Butcher: plan B?

I hope Butcher sticks to his guns and carries on trying to play patient football. If we stick to this it will encourage more people to watch and results will improve. We've got a very decent midfield now, the other areas should improve with time. No money = no quick fix.

Your meaning of the word patient, that is to faff isn't it

Butcher: plan B?

I hope plan B is to play players in position and encourage them to get the ball down and attack.

butcher and scott got the wrong players in from the start, scott was ment to have a good understanding of non league scene..i for one thought he might find a few gems...ie another dj.... well butch/scott you might well be in confrance come may.. your get a better look

The non league gems have been costing clubs excess of £100k each. The clubs have cottoned on and put players they can sell on decent length contracts in order to increase their value.
The chances of picking up outstanding non league players for no cost is minimal and probably somewhere around 1 in 10 may turn out to be a gem.
You must remember all the non league players we have signed in recent years that hav eturned out ok, such as Owusu, Powell, Rowlands & DJ all cost a transfer fee and Hutchinsion even cost the mighty sum of £75K
It is not as easy to find non league gems for nowt even though you mightthink it is.

:imwith: The gems would now appear to be players being released or loaned from higher league academies - like Sammy Moore for example.

Correct. Non league gems are costing big money these days, the Conference is pretty much all full time players as is some in leagues below that and so players are tied to contracts.
