Hasn't Egan captained in both league games??.....

Egan was captain last Saturday and today so first captain was in starting lineup and still captain. Wrong choice though

Woods should be Captain.

And if he isn't playing?

We don't have any players guaranteed a starting spot bar Bentley. Every position is up for grabs or the player is inexperienced. Tough call.

Woods would be in my first 3 picks when picking our team.

I've not been that impressed in pre season or first two games in Dan, a few soft goals that I think he'd have expected to get a bigger hand on.
Think it may be playing behind a very unbalanced back 4.

Captaincy

too softly spoken he isnt a leader...if its not Dean id give it to Bentley

Captaincy

Certainly lacked leaders yesterday. If any of them I'd have thought Bjelland. I'd have thought Bentley has other concerns about his own performance to get secured first before being given the added burden of captaincy.

Bentley hasn't been at his best so far, poor distribution and not sure he shouldn't have done a bit better on a few occasions over last two games.
Difficult call and John Egan if he was playing regularly obvious choice with pedigree but he's not playing well enough to be guaranteed a start.
If Harlee leaves I'd hope we have a replacement centre back in mind to come in.

I used to think that but Bjelland doesn't strike me as a great leader having seen him play.
At (at least) one point in the last match he was telling Nico to tuck in and get closer to him......which is fine if we didn't have the ball.....except we did....in Bentley's hands.....and Rico was rightly pushing out to the flank to receive the ball under less pressure. Thankfully, whilst Rico heard him, he chose to completely ignore him as it was silly.
I think Woodsy is probably the one who could act as a decent captain, always would lead by example with his workrate and determination, plus plays in a "heads-up" manner that directs play, which imo makes him ideal for marshalling the troops, even if he is diminuitive.

Captaincy

Kamo, Josh or Woods. Kamo is probably most likely to start every game so him.

None of us will know how each player is regarded by the rest of the squad but I'd say Kamo is too new and neither of the other two seem remotely captain material.

Why don't you think Woods could do it? I can accept it if it's because you don't think he'll be a regular starter, which is fair enough, but that's about it.

I don't think he reads the game well but the main reason would be that he's not that vocal with the players around him. Dean is constantly talking, as is Yennaris and Vibe but no-one else seems to be a natural organiser and able to communicate tactics during the game.

Captaincy

The whole squad knows wats is happening in the background. The DoF remain in control and the whole situation needs sorting out asap. If Dean does not want to stay and the DoF have offered the best terms that the Bess can offer ten let's move on and a get a replacement. The lack of leadership was also a major issue as the defending on Saturday. But to keep getting told that no bids/offers have come in and not playing key players who where so influencing last season in defence (Dean/Colin) -something is not right and fans can work this out! Words and figures don't seem to add up here, and the DOF need to sort this out for DS, rather than leave him in the middle.

His reading of the game is a really good point. But Woods passion, commitment and respect from the other players has to be considered. Definitely future captain potential.

Kamo was captain at FC Twente and any player named the general surely should also be seriously considered :)

Imo i think our most intelligent player is Josh and imagine he has a very good relationship with Smith and Frank.

Yeah, surprised he thinks Woods doesn't read the game well, I think that's his strength, he has his head up more than almost any other player imo.
His workrate/passion/commitment is such that it's almost a downside for captaincy in that he'll be involved so much he has less time to boss others around!
Still think he'd be a decent shout in the absence of Harlee.
McE has a great footballing brain, as you say, but I still have concerns about him and despite his quality think we may end up with Woods+Kamo partnering each other mostly. Both Woods and McE aren't the quickest but Woods' drive and determination means he gets back to cover/fight more imo when McE wouldn't.

Captaincy

A lot of players are saying goodbye to dean referring to him as skip but who will take over on a permanent basis..nico, Egan, woods , Bentley ?

Captaincy

Surely DS appointed Nico as captain when it was not at all clear what HDs plans were.

Clearly we weren't privy to the discussions but Id bet they weren't along the lines of "you be captain until HD sorts himself out and then we will look again" Surely DS would have appointed someone he felt would be suitable on an ongoing basis

Captaincy

As far as I can recall Paul Evans was appointed captain immediately he joined the Club. He clearly had outstanding leadership qualities which he had already demonstrated at Shrewsbury, was appointed because of that and proved a great success in the role, becoming known affectionately as "the governor"

The current player who has seemingly most demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities elsewhere is Kamo Mokotjo. In his previous club he was affectionately known as "the general" which should be a persuasive steer for the head coach in making the right choice. At the present time he may well be allowing Kamo time to find his feet in the English game before conferring a similar team defining role on him.

Josh may be our most intelligent player but he's definitely definitely not captain material. Hardly a leader. I would stick with Nico or Egan.

Captaincy

Egan. No contest. He will play every game now unless injured. Not sure Nico will.

I tend to agree with you, but I've just got a feeling we might all be surprised at how many games Yennaris starts.

I seem to recall that when Harlee Dean was given the captaincy at the start of last season, it was no grand unveiling, more a fairly low-level announcement along the lines of "he'll keep the job for as long as he's in the team". I imagine this time will be of a similar nature.

Captaincy

Always preferred central defender because they've got best view of everything in front of them unlike a front runner for example whom at not be so aware of what's happening behind him.

Ignore predictive txt on previous post. Hope it makes sense!

Surely a GK has an even better view? :fishing:

Which was Egan. Nico captained when Egan didn't play. Egan captained when Nico in team also.

Captaincy

Oldest and most experienced player and a defender, should be AB and when he doesn't play JE.

But he is in last year of contract so surely same rule applys as HD?

Captaincy

I don't think it's up for debate. It's been decided as Nico - or at least that's what the first team squad page on the official site states.

Captaincy

OK, it's all clear now!!!

Not too sure tbh he just doesnt strike me as that type of leader. A lot of people said Bidwell wasnt Cap material and i would say Nico is similar in stature and personality?

For me i shouldnt matter and we need 11 leaders out there.
