Central Midfield

we need a new man

not a newman

Mousinho performed better than Kev in Centre Mid last season.
So it's Mousinho/Poole for me, until the Butch gets someone else in...

mosinho is at best limited and at worst cack! :D :D :D
if he's any more than a sub next year we will struggle.

Central Midfield

Talbot was a key factor in us escaping relegation from nowhere in 2004 and almost going up in 2005, we were half the team when he wasn't playing during his spell at the club and him not being effectively replaced was part of the reason we didn't go up the following year.

If we had anyone half as good last year we wouldn't have finished bottom.

:sorted:

so which 3 midfielders would you place above him then ?

Central Midfield

A very sensible comment from Gee Bee.

It will be a long hard season next term for all teams.

A new striker, midfielder and central defender in place and the shape of the team will be there. Give it time.

Personally I think the weakest team I have seen in my time ( and I go back a long way) is the squad last year .

Every time they took the field the outcome was a forgone conclusion.Defeat!

We all know that managers like Allen and Coppell are very rare- but dont write off Butcher and Scott just yet.

Central Midfield

Please please sort this out ASAP Brentford. We need 2 CM's in for the start of pre-season badly. At the moment we're fooked in this position.

Are an central midfielders being linked with us?
Remain calm there, sonny. The defence is shaping up nicely and up front is getting there too. Given the usual Brentford tactics of having the defence lump it up to the strikers 9 times out of 10, defence and strike force are more of a priority ;) Midfielders tend not to be the obvious choice for the first pile-in for players. Don't worry, we'll get there, I'm sure TB and AS have some good players in mind. Hopefully we can at least start the season with the first choice players in their correct positions.

Central Midfield

I can too, but most players any season have always been signed much nearer the season start than before the end of June. Why don't people just look at historical fact?
Have people also forgotten that a loan system exists, any of these signings tend to be literally just before Kick off?

sorry GeeBee but I have to disagree with you. Fitz was sacked and Terry appointed before the end of the season SO that we did not have the blind panic of signing trialists during the pre season. Last year Leroy was hampered in his preparation for the season because when training started he only had about sixteen players which is all we have now. AS was deemed the right man for the Assistants role because of his contacts (some 350 players) in the SE. This knowledge and contacts coupled with Butch's knowledge of both the Aussie league players and players from Scotland, were the reason Greg Dyke and Others who supported the appointments, gave for appointing this management team.
Training started today FFS and we do not have enough players for a practise match. Head tennis the order of the day then???

IF and I say it is a big IF, these two together are the "right men for the job" then the next 5 days are crucial imo and I would hope to see three more signings at least ready to report for training on Monday when the real work begins. That will leave TB/AS with the same amount of players left to sign through to the end of July.
Trying to sign six players over six weeks and bond the team together, get them fit enough, explain new tactics, play pre season friendlies, watch opposition games, etc etc is the recipe for mid table mediocrity at best.

Central Midfield

I wouldn't panic about us only signing 3 new players - particularly at this time. It would be worrying if we'd signed no new players, all the kids rejected their contract offers and if we still had most of last year's dead weight contracted to the club.

Instead we've got some very promising young players now contracted to the club, most of whom have all had some sort of league experience, even if only a few sub appearances. Also, we've got rid of much of the chaff from last season and we've picked up 3 pro's with at least some league 2 experience, which at this stage in the summer isn't bad.

The next few weeks are likely to be packed with 'a trialist' 's, even more speculation and a number of signings*. Bring on Mansfield!

* hopefully

Hope we sign Connell , Good goal scoring record but was very injury prone.

Proven at our level and should be good for 12-15 goals if fit.

Yeh, could be a good attacking midfielder. Seems to have a good disciplinary record too, only 3 yellows all season.

One of those was when he tried to do a Maradona or a Messi in a game at Grimsby.
I've heard worse shouts than him but can I still hope for better.

Am I missing something with this rumoured new player? Maybe potential, but is his scoring that great considering the level and how many app's including sub? All I keep hearing from reports of AS and TB is we are looking for a player with XP to lead the forwards, has he got alot of assists?

You're probably missing the fact that a huge number of sub appearances are for five minutes or less - although I have no idea whether this is the case with this guy - so it's best to ignore the sub games when working out scoring rate and if you do, this bloke looks pretty good.

Central Midfield

Thoughts on Carder-Andrews?

Could he do a job on the wing possibly as he may sill be a lttle lightweight in the middle?

I've heard good things about him and like his energy and the fact he tries to play football.

With a strong midfielder next to him could he do a job?

Ryan Peters has a brilliant scoring record then!

I agree I was impressed and thought he was one for the future.

Ide, Charles and Carder-Andrews, hopefully they'll get us up and bring in some cash!

Another promising career down the pipe..........

By the way my post hasn't arrived yet this morning........can you chase it up for me...........you've got the address (well your wife has anyway)

Central Midfield

why have you converted a potentially decent striker into a midfielder?
Attacking midfielder... which would make him a probable member in a 4-3-1-2 or the first 1 in a 4-3-1-1 if we were feeling cagey. I see nothing wrong with having him as an attacking midfielder if we have two out and out strikers up front, or as a back-up striker in case they get crocked.

Anyway, more to the point, who is Bradley Falco?

Which is why I said a potential attacking midfielder, not a striker.

Did we retain him in the big deadweight clearout, and is he any good? If so, that's one backup/sub midfielder who might be of some use.

i'm sure he's a 2nd year youth player..................so this is his year to get a pro contract if he's good enough. markbfc might know more about if he's still on the youth teams books.....................

I am also sure Falco is now in his second year as a youth....... looking at his dob on the youth profiles on the O/S, it appears he is a school year younger than Dark and Montague!
