Good to see the club try and explain what went on and why the announcement of Andy's departure was late. I still don't see why if they were informed in the morning why it took until past 17:00 to publish the news

"Whilst Alan Bird and myself waited in a local hotel to meet with Andy and Terry early Thursday we began to receive calls and texts from the media asking for confirmation of the rumour that the Club had reached agreement with Andy and Bully for the termination of their contracts, which we were obviously unable at that time to provide! During the subsequent meeting I confirmed to both Andy and Terry that a decision had been taken and I had been given the authority to try and agree the terms of an amicable settlement. Alan and myself then headed straight off to the Training Ground to meet the players and staff and explain the position."

So let's call "early" 10:30am. Chat for an hour (11:30) then straight to the training ground from a "local hotel" (11:45), tell the players. I'm believe that I'm being generous by saying that it seems that this was all done and dusted by noon.

Then why did it take until after 5pm to get the news on the website?

Not surprising it leaked out in the interim really is it? No real excuse for blaming the internet. The news appeared on twitter at 11:30 and sammatterface would have had a lot of confidence to post that. It seems to me that the news could have been announced by BFC first (or certainly about the same time) rather than 5-6 hours later.

I dont think Wednesday announced Irvine's departure immediately ,maybe its a league one thing ?

Maybe so but then don't complain that "Unfortunately with the advent of the Internet, social networking and an ever growing appetite for sports news and rumours it is becoming ever more difficult to control the flow of information into the public domain".

I hope this is the right thread, I just want to thank the board for making this change at GP. It was the right thing to do, I know others will disagree. Scott had run out of ideas. he messed with team position too much. Nothing at all against the man, and I know it must have been a hard job for the board. I have not been happy with the style of play at this football club for ages, but Scott seemed to have that knack of turning things around. Sitting not too far away from his dug out I could hear and see his actions. and the less said about that the better. I have always known the players are good enough for this division, and now is the time to move on.
From where i stand Scotty seemed to have the full support from the board, and that is to their credit, I hope we select a good manager, I know who I want, I want to see the pride put back into this club, and I also want to see more bums on seat. I was at the rugby on Friday in cardiff, but was pretty much hangovered to attend . I may wel have done that if a certain chap who will take this club forward was there.

The 'rumour' was out before they mat with Scott & Bully.

They have to agree the terms of the departure, inform the all the troops and other associated personel (directors/investors etc) and agree a press release.

If they have to inform all the directors and investors first, then a wait of 5-6 hours is not unreasonable, particularly if one or two are difficult to get hold off (perhaps on holiday or busy running their empires).

My concern with the whole thing is that it should have been done 7-10 days before.

The directors would have made the decision so I hope they would have known beforehand! As for your assertion that "they have to agree the terms of the departure", the announcement made late in the afternoon actually said: "discussions continue to reach a mutual and amicable agreement."

Maybe WEB had a day off or wasnt informed in the morning. Sack the Board. Took them a three month delay to grow some & sack the f**ham clown (we could be up by now!!) so a five hour delay in telling the fans officially is not so bad. :zzzzz:

They agree the initial terms of departure then have to agree the detail. No great shake.

I'm not too concerned abnout the 5-6 hour delay.

There may have been certain personnel that, although not involved in the decission process, would still need to be notified prior to releasing the news.

What would worry more is that the rumour (not that it would take a rocket scientist to work out something was going on) was out before the meeting.

I think they deserve a break to be honest - finally we have a board who did have the b***ocks to do something and exactly at the right time.

I don't think it took a futurist to predict that it was all over for AS after Tuesday night and as the board said, in this day and age of twitter, 20 odd players who knew things were happening, media camped out down training grounds, it was bound to be leaked before an official announcement was made... perhaps some who didn't know in advance are a bit miffed and thought it was their devine right to know before anyone else..... (as usual!)

that is why we mustn't go too ott and sign fossie up tooooo soon. honeymoon period and all that. so far so good but let's give it a bit of time.

I was phoning around as soon as it was confirmed on sky. He had to go and has been rightly shown the door, end of story.

No problem with time it took to issue formal announcement, in fact what difference does it make to anyone as the only parties effected factualy were the management team and the players or are some on here p*****d off they were not told in advance so they could gloat on here by being in the know.

Those of us who went to Daggenham saw that the writing was on the wall, abee had said the board were aware of feelings and I beleive Andrew Mills expressed similar when at Daggenham. The only issue was whether the board felt enough was enough or whether they were prepared to gamble on our future, it seems from what we know that they all discussed the position agreed on the way forward and then had the difficult job of telling Andy and Terry.

I have no doubt that once Scott and Bully did not turn up at the training ground the players were on their mobiles and this would get picked up somewhere along the line.

I am grateful the board took the necessary action, pleased that they know where they are heading and will wait with interest to see who is appointed.

I had 5 minutes of chat with Mr Mills at the weekend, I've never really got involved in what he does on here or knew too much about him, I don't buy programmes or read the OS that often. I've heard the rumours of the relationship with AS which wouldn't be helpful to anyone who wasn't enjoying Brentford, I always say as I see and found him to be a decent chap who told me how much he loved the job and how the future was exciting. I believed him, see Andrew, 5 minutes with me has seen your first positive post on here.:D

I would like to echo NB's comments re Andrew Mills.I wrote to him following the home defeat to Yeovil expressing my concerns regarding what I felt was an increasingly unacceptable situation at the club.I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from him early evening on the day of the Dagenham match. In what must have been a 30 minute conversation he listened to all my concerns & suggestions & subsequently re assurred me that he had the Club's best interests at heart.I joked that was he going to wait for defeat against Dagenham or until another turgid display at GP against Plymouth before having what must have been a difficult discussion with the incumbant management team. His response was that he would not allow the Club to regress on the field. He was true to his word & has my respect for that.I wish him (& the rest of the board) well in their search for a new management team.I honestly believe he is the right man to be leading the process.

How much did you get for the above post, I got a free ST and a weekly massage from Mark Chapman for mine?

Never got to the point of talking about "incentives" although he did suggest "popping in" when next at GP.Didn't respond to this suggestion as not sure what he had in mind!

CEO Article

In just about every other industry I am aware of there is an activity known as Succession Planning, usually the responsibility of the COO or Chief Exec, to ensure that there is a plan in place to deal with senior staff leaving (or being taken ill etc).

Knowling that AS had had a conversation with Sheff Utd add to that the recent results and I am amazed that we appear not to have a plan in place that can give us a new manager in the near future.

Sheff Wednesday took less than 48 hours and I bet there will be a new manager in at West Brom before the weekend.

I have no problem handing Nicky the job short term or long term for that matter, my comment is about the processes in place at the highest level of our club being below standard; I wouldn't expect that they would share the detail of a succession plan but at least say they have one in place and it is now being actioned.

I thought that was exactly what we had said but I gather that you would have liked us to have matched the Sheff Wed time frame and appointed a manager in short order before exploring who is the best fit. Of course I'm sorry that we don't match the high standards that you expect.

In truth the Sheff wed time frame does lead me to think that the sacking of Irvine was the last piece of the jigsaw, and no I would not want our club to have that type of image.

My standards are just that standards, not high - just what is the norm in business and industry.

Shall we just settle for both of us want the right man in place asap.

The norm in business and industry is in my judgement that the top players are settled and can be listed and approached at leisure. That is Marks & Spencer can identify a short list of top CEO's several years ahead of the process with the comfort that they will almost certainly still be in place and available within their time frame. There is far more movement in the top echelons in football and I do not subscribe to your opinion that we can adopt the same standards because the conditions are not the same. A short list drawn up last November say would almost surely be invalid today. We had one candidate already who has said that he is available but has other irons in the fire so wanted a swift decision......I am not the final arbiter in this process........far from it........but my general rule in business and industry is 'If you want a quick answer it's 'no''.

CEO Article

The man with the final say at Sheff Wed is probably Mandaric, therefore decisions can be made quickly. I do believe that the board may have preconcieved ideas who they would like, but have left the option open to include other possible unknown candidates. I don't personally feel that waiting 7-8 days to get the best possible applicant is unsatisfactory.

Agreed with part of the M&S comment, in some cases plans are formal long term and unlikely to alter - was true at M&S until they screwed up there floor planing and lost market share to Next Principle etc and their share value fall - but I'm sure you know about that tale.

However, having done several succesion plans the part that BFC should have in place is around the type of person, skill-set, experience, market value etc. I think (please don't correct me if this isn't word for word) there was a quote something like...

"We'll be sitting down and discussing what we are looking for adn review against applications/CVs"

May be fun to open a thread discussing management theory both inside and outside football .... :)

I believe that we said we received forty seven cv's before last Thursday was out. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the final appointment finished up with someone who hadn't even sent their cv in. It is certainly not a question of.......well here are the cv's......pick one out. I can assure you that we have a 'tick list' similar to yours in place .

A little confused by this, because in my experience of having worked on The City for 30 years, succession planning is a major problem. Mainly because the people at the top tend to have sorted themselves out something new before anyone can plan a succession. What happens though, is that most would have a long term notice period and during that period a new ceo is found, so it looks like something was in place when in fact you didn't. Plc's do tend to be slightly diffrent as the have to make shareholder announcements, howver often it amounts to the same, the current ceo doesn't leave until there is a succesor. Obviously something you cannot do in football management, although West Ham are trying hard to buck that trend.
Football is not the same as any other industry either and should not be compared anything like any other imho.
