Changing Times

At the last game I suddenly noticed that the house at the Ealing Road end of the ground no longer has a clear view of the pitch. The tree that I always remember being their has now grown to block out the line of site.

I know its a weird observation but it made me wonder what else had changed.

My mind was blank until I heard a line of a song on the radio "Footballers with mud upon their face" and I realised that the mud patch which streached in a traingle between the penalty spot and both goal posts had dissappeared. Every year it was there from late Septeber / Early October all the way through to April but I now I cant recall the last time I saw it.

Are there any other things that have changed without being noticed?

I remember when I used to be able to watch Brentford win sometimes.

i remember 10,000+ home att.... a nice big home stand behind the goal....and a fella selling monkey nuts ...a center forward that scored goals.. and a team to be proud of..

The slow emptying of each stand. Only realised the RS stand had almost a whole seating block empty last game.

I remember when all fans supported BFC through the bad times as well as the good.

I remember monkey nuts being sold round the perimeter, and being able to change ends at half time. 40years through thick and thin, once their in your blood they are there for life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Monkey nuts must have been before me. I was that kid in the 70s walking around the pitch selling popcorn, kia ora and nuts but not monkey nuts that I can recall.
I was promoted to tea bar and my bar sits still on the Royal Oak as the power room I think with the police control box up above.
You were not allowed to transfer between the Royal Oak and the Braemar can you remember that?

Being able to park without getting at Ticket.

As a kid I was always excited no matter what the game or occasion, I never looked beyond the 90 mins so a meaningless game still meant everything.

Wagon wheels..nostalgic memory even though I never liked them.
People wearing red and white striped scarfs before replica kits.
Watching big punch ups in the royal oak at half time.
The smell of ralgex you used to get from the player as they ran out from below the braemar half way line.
The noise the old wooden braemar stand used to make when people stamped and clapped in time with the chants.

I have been driving regularly to home games for 30 years and have never got a ticket. There is loads of off road parking that it can always be avoided, even on the big game days. :confused:

I have only ever got one ticket which I contested as it was a blatant lie and I won.

I refer to the fact that you used to leave the car in the great west road and walk. Nowadays you have to get there an hour earlier then you used to and park in such an inconvenient place it takes another hour to get back on the m4.

Royal Oak on night games when you couldn't see the gaps and the noise and atmosphere was fantastic.

The old boy in the white coat selling the Evening Standard although I never understood what he shouted out.

The bloke selling rosettes outside the Royal Oak entrance.

Players coming out to Power game used to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, unfortunately this season it makes me working out what position we 're likely to have dropped to in 90 minutes time!

For as long as I can remember - driving past the flashing lucozade bottle on the left hand side of the road coming into London on the M4 was the sign I was home- and then my eyes would turn right to take in the floodlights on each corner of Griffin Park. If on my own it would bring a lump to my throat, if with others I would bore them (again) with the landmark.

Turned eyes right a couple of weeks ago and you can see the RefreshingSolutions.Com lettering at the top of the Braemar Road stand.

good shout. Me and my dad always used to swap ends in the Braemar before it was seated out.

I remember being bottom of the old 4th division in the mid 70's until a 19-year old Gordon Sweetzer came along at Xmas and scored 26 goals in half a season. Charlie Ide this is your chance!

I also remember regular league matches against Barrow, Southport, Workington, Aldershot & Newport County

Big Bee Radio, the programme shop under the Royal Oak, the wooden terraces at the back of the New Road, people shouting "You don't want to get promoted Brentford", leaving my bike in the garden of the house on the corner of Clifden Road for threepence, kicking off at 3.15......
