How bad were/are they?
That hatred for the manager is hurting them, the players obviously aren't playing for him and should Mata get injured, they are in a street called sh!t.
I couldn't believe just how paceless Cahill, Ivanovic and Terry are, I knew they weren't flyers but they can just about plod.
They have big problems as I don't think yesterday was a one-off, the Prem is low on quality, the Champions League has shown that and I saw it with my own eyes yesterday.

Posted on the reports thread that I watched the game with a couple of Chelsea supporters in the pub and both reminded me of how I felt towards the end of Andy Scott's time in charge.

Completely toothless and void of any creativity.

Saunders was our Mata during that time dark time. I actually feel a little sorry for them...

They didn't have enough players who appreciated the occasion. I seriously think they believed they only had to turn up and they were through. They are obviously not playing for Benitez, as fickle as it may be, there is too much bad blood there

A Spurs supporting friend of mine had a slightly different view. He was saying that the way we played we'd have beaten any other premiership team the only exception being Man Utd and Man City

I agree with that but they were toothless going forward. Torres is/was woeful. I think if Ba and Mata had started then it would have been a more backs to the wall performance.
Watching the spurs game after though would have fancied us rolling them over and Liverpool...

Turnball didn't give the defence any confidence whatsoever and Clayton did a great job on forcing Cole back - Cole is quality on his day but Clayton ruffed him up and well done as well. Marin was terrible -don't remember him doing anything. Oscar took his goal really well and has the skills but we got stuck in on him too. Bertrand looked off the pace and not convinced he is a left winger.

Mata though did sorth them out int he second half though. One step ahead of his team mates though! ha ha

In the past I have been impressed by Ramires who always seemed to play with the right attitude but yesterday he spent most of the game like a snivelling little schoolboy. At the end when he got called up for handball I thought his bottom lip was really going to go & he was about to burst into tears :)

Before Mata came on, they were devoid of any creativity. First half Uwes tactics were spot on, let them pass it around for 20 passes amongst the back four and when they eventualy get into our half make sure that anyone apart from Ashley Cole is allowed to to advance as they'll only run out of ideas, no one will find space and they'll go backwards again.
Cole aside, they had no injection of pace when they got in the last third which is why they struggled to get round the back of our full backs.
If I'm being really picky and critical we gifted them the first goal by playing too much football and ball to feet in a dangerous area on a bobbly surface that backfired, Harlee nearly paid a big penalty for his error in dithering after he'd turned Torres and it did dawn on me that maybe being such a footballing team didn't help us yesterday. I'm proud that so many people who know me as a Bees supporter have been phoning, e-mailing and texting telling me how good we were rather how plucky. However it shows how far we've come that although we were brilliant and I'm delighted having seen the draw that we've got another big day out at the Bridge, but you know we really could have won that fair and square if we'd played at our very best. I don't think that Chelsea worried me coming forward as much as Bournemouth and Logan will wish he could paly them every week rather than Pugh!

I think Oscar played pretty well yesterday. Seen them a few other times this season and when the attacking midfield clicks and with Hazard eligible the quality is frightening. Problems in other areas though. Fortunately there were plenty of off days and players who didn't look like they fancied it yesterday. Big credit to us - didn't let them have any time to get composed.

It was important that we didn't give them any chances as they have clinical finishing as we saw,and not giving any fouls away in shooting distance which we managed to avoid . On the whole we did that although their two goals came from two minor mistakes perhaps that got punished accordingly.

We played very well, they seemed not sure what to do about us ( which begs a question about their preparation) and maybe the gap between us is not really as big as the wealth suggests. I was quite surprised at how some of these so called superstars looked so ordinary. I think once our team realised this the game turned.

For me the defining moment was after 10 minutes or so, with Douglas chasing down their keeper and forcing him to boot it into the stands. It seems to be a sign from our long haired dynamo to the rest of the team that these were only mere mortals and we need not be in awe.

I like Mata, he's classy on and off the pitch but I think the wind had more effect on the 2nd Half performance.

He was good and one of their better players but I wouldn't go overboard about it!

The football pundits on TV always mention that the lower team will raise their game. Well I have to say I didn't see the lads raise their game yesterday they just played as they normally do. Maybe that's what you get when a team gives 100% and the other team thinks they are gods gift to football and just have to turn up. Think they will now be up for it on the 17th and a better pitch will actually suit us as well.

I spent a happy 45 minutes this morning reading their fans forum. Apart from them saying the pitch was crap and the ref was biased etc the one thing that really surprised me is they pretty much all think Torres played well! I thought he was complete s***e - apart from the goal he contributed nothing and looked completely disinterested.

We didn't play an up and at 'em game at all, we didn't hoof it long and high down the middle, we looked like a team with a plan, shut them down where it mattered, with quality midfielders capable of mixing it and playing football to feet. No doubt we had adrenalin flowing and our tails up after a very nervous opening 5 minutes but like you state we have played better this season and both of their goals were mistakes and avoidable.
I think our chance has gone and hope we do ourselves justice at their place but honestly not fussed if we get through or not, I can't see it getting better than yesterday but maybe 6,000 Bees in one stand should make it a great day out.

The thing I loved about Brentford yesterday was that we simply refused to lose our shape. This seemed to worry Chelsea, who probably thought that we would come out all guns blazing and then the could pick us off with ease. Hence after the first ten minutes they got confused and then the Bees grew into the game. I really don't think that they did their homework and were schocked that we were happy to prod and probe, rather than be up and at them.

Except for his goal which was class I thought Oscar was pretty anonymous tbh.

Give credit to Rosler. I think he outsmarted Benitez in the first half. I think they were expecting 4-4-2 from us. I also think they underestimated us too.We have talented players who can get it down. We have to do the same at the Bridge and hope for lady luck to be on our side.

Chelsea did lack pace to attack the full backs or centre backs. Bertrand, Cole and Ivanovic aren't the quickest.

Then about 10 minutes later that same man again was a yard offside and his mate lino didnt give it.

Let's look at it for what it is. Chelsea ARE a great side. Normally, being a Bee, on a Sunday I would be supporting them if they are playing northern monkies somewhere, live on Sky, watching it in my local (as I would when Arsenal play northern teams). They weren't great yesterday, but our boys made them look this way. They scored two cracking goals and, from what been said on here, were very sporting in hanging behind to sign autographs/pose for pics etc. It is testament to our boys that we are involved in this type of game.

It was a pleasure to host Chelsea.

Its an even bigger pleasure to be following such a talented (from top to bottom) Bees set up that made this happen.

I have had some great days out, but I find it very hard to think of when a team of ours has worked so hard and kept its discipline like we did yesterday.....unbelievable and pure magic!!

Nope, I missed two late offers of a ticket Sunday morning as I sat up late Saturday on the vino begging for one, missed one on here Sunday morning and missed a PM from here with a ticket......have never felt such a plank!!

However, took my boy to watch the game at a local pub, he is only 6 and a bit dazzled by Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc, etc though he has a Brentford kit and I took him to MK Mongs to see us beat them last season.

But thanks to our boys heroic efforts yesterday, the Bee baton was truly moved down a generation yesterday. He loves playing FIFA 11 so I always tell him to have Spain and I play as Brentford to even things up. Because of this, Fernando Torres was up there with Wayne Rooney in his eyes.

After that yesterday, my Ben said (and I am so proud of this-and thanks to every member of that team yesterday-I love you all) "Fernando Torres is rubbish, I don't like him anymore" and "can we go when we play them again??" He then sang "Bees, Bees barmy army!!" as we walked through Bedford town centre to pick him up a well deserved Happy Meal!!

So proud and so pleased, my deceased nan and grandad who started taking me in the 70's would have been smiling somewhere I am sure.

So thanks very much for asking, didn't get one, but still had a magical day thanks to the players, management team and all the supporters and background staff.

I hope and trust you had an equally amazing experience.

Sounds like you and Ben still had a top day :sorted: ..... I had fantastic day , siting along side good friends and two sons, it was good to share the day together...... went thinking today could turn out to be a nightmare, but ended up a dream :D...

And yet the truly bizarre thing is that we can play even better. Of course given the gulf in quality between Chelsea and our normal opponents it's hard to tell for sure but we've all seen just how good we can be when on song this season and I think there is even more in us than we showed on Sunday.

The thing that surprised me about Chelsea was their keeper, Turnball. Not following the stale, predictable Premiership much I assumed that he must be a young prospect, maybe 20 or 21. But I read that he's 28 and he's played barely a handful of first team games :eek: At the other end there was Simon Moore at 22 already an established first choice - and I know which one I'd have more confidence in. It just shows how the ludicrous resources and stockpiling of talent at the big clubs can really stunt player development.

He came from Middlesbrough and I remember him playing against us for Barnsley in a 1-1 draw in 2005
