Very edgy game first half, one of their players managed to completely mess up a shot when all he had to do was put it in. Bournemouth weren't up for this one, didn't commit too much. In the second half once Rhodes had come on for Harold we looked more dangerous as Harold and May weren't getting anything out of the 2 centre backs. Rhodes scored a beauty, then we wasted time and that was it. Superb scenes at the end. I'm knackered after that, just as shame that QPR had to win

What a day, 9500 people in GP and the best atmosphere and support I can remember and I have seen a few promotions.

Nervous start, bmouth very organised and we lacked a midfield. As the game went on we patiently stepped up the pressure without panicking with two fantastic tabb volleys flashing wide and a dobbo free kick brilliantly saved.

With results coming in from the radio the crowd started to pick up last 20 mins ass did the players.

A fantastic goal by rhodes on a day he wont forget in a while and we are safe. Cue crowd invasions and a nice ban for some silly ott supporters who had to go too far when the stewards tried to usher them back in the stands.

This was like winning promotion all over!!

The only sore point for me was having my view of the pitch obscured at half time by thirty odd bouncers standing on the touchline staring at me in braemar road as i ate my half time burger!

The fans are always going to run on the pitch and today they carried the playersd of shoulder high. There was no vchance of trouble and that must be why the stewards still stared in braemar like gormless ****s as 3000 people ran round the pitch. Anyway, save that for another day,

Maidenhead Bee got it spot on. At the beginning, Bournemouth were the better side and i was very nervous as they seemed to get the rub of the green early on - still cant believe their player trapped the ball instead of volleying it in the first half.
Nelson looked very assured, as did Fitz, and we gradually grew in confidence. Second half huge improvement, chased everything and created chances, Jay Tabb very unlucky twice.

Fantastic touch and then composed finish from Rhodes, who looked bright after coming on. Great atmosphere and superb scenes at the end! Gota feel sorry for the 1 or 2 who got nicked when hundreds poured onto the pitch, were arrests necessary?

Griffin Park is a fantastic place to be at moments like that goal.
what a touch to beat the defender too followed by a calm finish.

when that goal went in I nearly through my 2 x kids thru the roof of D block. they have just told me their hands are still sore from all the clapping at the end of the game. its afternoon like this when you appreciate what being a Bees supporter is all about. The plastic premiership supporters just wouldnt understand.
Better than sex.....well maybe not, but bloody close.

Took me back to 92 and that win against Fulham such was the expectation, atmosphere and ending.

Big game, big crowd and we delivered nuff said, we could be seeing a new dawn with MA in charge.

Oh and a very, very classy goal from the new Michael Owen..........

What a goal from Rhodes, flicked with the outside of his boot then tucked in the corner....goal of the season in many many ways!!!

Also have to mention Stuart Nelson at the end of the game when fans invaded the pitch. He was right in front of Brook Rd screaming F*CKING COME ON! while surrounded by kids...that's no way to set an example Stuart!!!

Nerves all round today but the young lad Rhodes showed the coolest head in the place to slot away our only real chance. The scenes when we scored and then at the final whistle were superb, as good as Huddersfield a few years ago.

The game was toilet but who cares? Bournemouth knew what we were going for today and seemed ready to play the counter attack and with some more incisive passing in the final third they could have scored first. Talbot and Fitz showed how much we have missed some experience in the side. We badly missed Talbot when he went off with a hamstring injury.

Martin Allen's touchline performances are becoming legendary for anyone lucky enough to see him. I am definitely getting a season ticket with the D Block oldies as he will liven up any dull game. I thought he was going to thump the 4th official at one point who then took one look into his eyes and backed off to his seat.

I didn't think there were too many poor performances today, the back four was solid, Ibu only gave us one heart stopping moment and the defence was pretty solid, hopefully we can keep the current back four for next season. What we were lacking was bite upfront. May and Harrold looked tired and didn't offer us much attacking wise. We have to address that over the close season and accept that Harrold and Rhodes won't become first team regulars over night. But thats for the next few months. Right now we can sit back and feel pretty happy about how the season has turned out, I bet most of us would have taken being level with Sheffield Wednesday. Things are looking good again.

It wasn't pretty at times but I never felt like we would lose. Great atmosphere. I love GP on days like that. Just wish more of the Brook Rd Upper were singers !

Interesting walk back to the car after a couple of swift ones in Stripes after the game Police vans motoring around everywhere, horses, the lot. Quite a tasty little firm of around 20-30 lads who clearly didn't want the season to end quite so soon.....

No, it was Stuart.

Terrible nervy first half I thought showing why we need a striker next season and Bournemouth largely dominated with 3 decent chances (to our 1), with one clanger that has already been mentioned which looked like a certain goal for them. It was mostly Bournemouth.

The second half was entirely Brentford. Great save from their keeper off Tabb after he saw it late, and then a fantastic goal from Rhodes (sublime first touch and ice cool finish). A few nervy moments at the very end, but we all knew it was our day.

Happy days. Up the Bees!

Incidentally, did anyone else think that it was a bit of gamesmanship to leave the theme tune playing for at least an extra 30 secs when Bournemouth were ready to kick off ? Their guys didn't seem to happy.....oh well....

I normally turn up around 2:50 and walk straight into the ground, but thought I better get there about 30 mins earlier than normal to make sure of getting in; the queue for New Rd was up to the Royal Oak at 2:20!

Nothing much to add to what's been posted already other than to reiterate what a fantastic atmosphere there was today, last time I can remember anything like that was after Owusu's goal v Huddersfield in the 2002 play-offs.

Tremendous turn-around in the last 10 games, (5 wins, 4 draws, 1 defeat?). Here's hoping the form continues for next season.

We got the result we were looking for from a new Hero Alex Rhodes who will do down in history as our lifesaver.

Fitz had a great game,I hope we can sign him for next season.
Dobbo led by example.Shame Talbot left so early,he's one of the reasons we have had a good run.

Felt sorry for Rushden whose bad run looks even worse than ours under Downes.

What a pity Grimsby with their flashing arses last week not quite making it.

I'm afraid May will have to go and Harrold doesn't show me much either. We need firepower next year or we will struggle again.

A small word for the ref and officials who did a very good job and extra time lasted exactly 3 mins.
Crowd superb, spportive throughout, boisterous at the end but no big stupity.

Best atmosphere at GP for ages, brought some neutrals with me who I'm sure will be back next season.

Rhodes' goal was the one moment of quality, Tabb the only other player who looked able to score.

Nelson was as solid as I've seen him, covered his box well, and the defence was solid (apart from Sonks usual couple of aberrations), Fitz looked particularly good.

The problem is still the central midfield, there were some stages where they had far too much space, whereas they always closed us down quickly. Talbot going off didn't help, Frampton never quite caught up.

Still, the scenes at the end were great, Hunty kidnapping a young kid (and a flag) for the lap of honour and Tabb giving his boots to another kid in New Road.

Let's stay in the top half of the table next season!

The game was ugly, but Martin said it would be. Alex Rhodes returned his transfer fee with interest. How valuable is that goal! And so well taken. What ever happens to him, he is down in Brentford Folklore. My 5 year old will never forget his first Brentford match. Held him up like the FA Cup when the goal went in and at the end.

Lets forget who was good and who was not. Lets enjoy this fantastic day!

Not the prettiest game of all time. Rhodes looked a bit lightweight when he came on. However, his goal was superb. A touch of class, the most skilful touch of the afternoon.


Great to see Nelson walking round to shout with the fans. He also had a good game.

Reading the match reports, this post and the pics on the official site gave me more than a few tears and I am off down to my local Pittsburgh bar for a few cold ones to celebrate.

Oh what a perfect day.....

Days like these are few and far between.

With a flick over a defender and a side foot in the bottom corner Alex Rhodes joined Martin Allen in entering Brentford folklore.

I looked around when the goal went in and saw my father (60 yrs supporting the bees) and my six year old daughter in her bees shirt all with the same expression, pure joy, arms raised. Almost in unity with 8 and half thousand other people.

Those moments remain forever. Nobody can take that kind of moment from any of us.

We can enjoy the summer - forget the 1 win in 20 games as a bad nightmare and on cool summer evenings occasionally remember that moment and feeling that went through us when Rhodes' shot hit the bottom right hand corner of the old Royal Oak end.

Did the same with my 6 year old lad who I've only just started taking along since February.

We went to see Chelski last week (He wanted to see a Prem game) and I ask him which of the games did he prefer going too.

Brentford of course......His quote - "Were louder and better than Chelsea.

Stayed in West London for the weekend just to recover. Poor game but who cared. Thought we didn't show much nerves and just played our usual game and put the pressure on late in the second half and deserved the result. For a game of such an importance I felt we did play the ball around quite well and Tabb was definitely going to score when schythed down near the end, got away with the handball and wouldn't have done if the lino had been on the new road side of the ground so got our run of the green on the most important day of the season.

A close game with Bouremouth looking slightly the better side in the first half, but our superior determination saw us nick all 3 points.

Defence and midfield very solid, thought Frampton did a reasonable job in an unfamiliar position, and Hutch really is improving!

We lacked a cutting edge up front again, but with Tomy Wright injured we are down to the bare bones, and with Rhodes up our sleeve we always had a chance.

Second half, knowing that Rushden and Grimsby were both losing I thought we'd hold our nerve for a 0-0 and stay up that way, and deliberately didn't look at my watch. It was a nice suprise to see how little time was left after Rhodes wonder goal! You knew we'd done it then.

Five wins and three draws from nine games, with the same squad that had one win in 19 previously - that's management! Still think we would to have to pull off a couple of real transfer coups to challenge next season, but under MA, you never know!
