Chicken & Egg

We all know that good, positive, vocal support lifts teams.

We all know that what happens on the pitch can influence the mood of the crowd.

So which should come first???

I am a firm believer that the crowd has the responsibility to set the atmosphere and therefore encourage the players to play with confidence and determination (like what's needed to be done for them today). However, I have heard some say that the team needs to earn their support by playing well and the responsibility is with the players to set the atmosphere.

With GP being a bit quiet of late, can our support be described as falling into the second category?? Perhaps it's just the "Brentford innit" attitude and we'll believe it when we see it, we've had too many disappointments to get too excited?

Chicken & Egg

GP was indeed strangely quiet vs Cov. Not sure why. Hopefully will change this afternoon.

Chicken & Egg

...............lots of Ealing Rd noise.............

Chicken & Egg

I wonder if the Sloop John B. song at HT was a coincidence

Chicken & Egg

Didn't hear the Ealing Road today.

Was noisier than usual in the former hate corner.

Chicken & Egg

I think the tension is getting to us all. That said the atmosphere at the final 3 away games is going to be electric!

:sorted: :sorted: :sorted: :sorted:

Chicken & Egg

The atmosphere on the left of Ealing Rd was dreadful.

Good efforts from a group in the old Hate Corner of New Rd.

Chicken & Egg

ER was decent today tbh, good to see "we'll sing on our own" being sung

Reckon you’re right about the tension. I thought the Notts crowd did a good job for much of the match today and put us to shame a bit. From the paddock I could hear Ealing Road were singing but it didn't travel loudly and there were only sporadic bursts of singing elsewhere. Combination of nerves, lots of irregulars, and a match which my mate suggested seemed at times like a training game. On the other hand, arriving just before kick off at Orient, it was electrifying hearing the Brentford crowd as I walked up to the ground.

Chicken & Egg

ER did their bit today, and there was a few bursts from elsewhere, but I think the fact that it was like a training ground match for most of the game didn't help matters, coupled with the fact that the tension is getting to us all.

Chicken & Egg

I was stood on the right side of ER and thought the noise was good. However the left side was dreadful. They just don't create noise. Bramear and New Road occasionally burst into song, but most of the noise is created on Ealing Road! We need everyone to get behind the team on Tuesday!

Chicken & Egg

It's not chicken and egg at all really????

If you back the players and they play well, everyone's happy. If you sit there and wait for us to start playing well to justify supporting the team, **** off to QPR???? if we're playing poorly, I get the atmosphere will be flat, you can't help that, but don't just refuse to get behind the team unless we're doing well, that's ludicrous.

BTW, our home atmosphere is really poor. the away atmosphere is good sometimes, about 50-50.

You Will rightly be called a silly little boy for comments like that.

Chicken & Egg

A good psychology dissertation at Uni would be investigating why the left side are, and always have been, so quiet. It genuinely fascinates me.

Welcome to the board Mr Hearn

Appreciate that ER needs to be louder but starting non league style chants about "singing on our own" when the club is in a position to make history is just WRONG

Honestly can't see how creating an atmosphere is "wrong"....

Chicken & Egg

Brought a couple of Spurs fans today who thought the atmosphere was great and that was from New Road. Think some of you expect too much for these important nervy games. Obviously its more concentrated at away games. Looking forward to the Swines and Donkeys!

Chicken & Egg

was miles better than coventry game but still not great....the tension in the air is palpable....tues under the lights will be better as it always is ;)

the 3 aways will be immense

If you gave everyone in Ealing Road a mic, amp and speakers and they all sang in unison, the goalkeeper in front of them would be hard pressed to hear it never mind the former hate corner. This is the problem. Let's hope Susan is acoustically superior :sorted:.

Nonsense. It was sung for about 15 minutes at Sheff Utd mid-week and created a fantastic atmosphere. Nothing non-league about it at all.

Chicken & Egg

Give the Ealing Road a drum or two.

New Road can have a trumpet and other instruments you blow into.

Organs are out:nono:before anyone wants to blow in one of those.

@Atmospheres are us.co.uk

Plenty of people here already have their own trumpets

Chicken & Egg

Was stood in Love Corner (left side of Ealing rd) and hardly heard a thing from the fabled 'noisy middle bit' of Ealing rd.

Heard the old Hate Corner a few times. :sorted:

Oh what, because it's morally wrong for me to tell someone they're better off somewhere else if they only want to get behind players if they're doing well????????

Chicken & Egg

Not morally wrong. Just not needed from a kid to fans who have done their tour but may not like to sing now

Here we go again with the kid nonsense, didn't even mention singing or anyone on here, I pointed out that if you go to matches and refuse to support the team unless we play well then what's the point?

Chicken & Egg

I thought GP was strangly quiet yesterday.
After the 3 goals people were just happy to relax and have a chat.

I think that's hit the nail on the head. We were 3-0 up and coasting and I think people just relaxed and enjoyed the football which was a bit like a pre-season friendly/training game in the 2nd half.

Bore off you turnip.

If it helps you any further to understand. I buy 4 season tickets a year, and have bought at least one for the last 30 years.

I would imagine that the sum total of all that money has done more to support the club than a few half audible rounds of the new crap song about singing on your own.

Peace.

Ahahahaha well done, you're older than me and have more money to buy more season tickets because you have a job because you're older and are able to have a job..

Apparently that justifies personally insulting me and not supporting the team at matches unless we're playing well.

Chicken & Egg

If you consider that an insult you really should get out more.

My point, which you spectacularly failed to get, was that there are many ways of supporting the club. If all of those who pay to support the club and don't "sing" , took your advice and didn't bother going the club would pretty soon be in the poop.

And there are many who do shout encouragement very loudly, including me, who choose not to join in with the mostly crap chanting. I did that in the Oak when I was a youngster, as you are doing now.

Also on the subject of money I had far more disposable income when I was raping the bank of mum and dad than I do now after I've paid the mortgage, bills etc now. Enjoy it while you can.

I am not talking about singing or chanting. Interesting to know you think it's all a load of crap though.

By all means, buy your season tickets and your club shirts and your programmes and feel good about doing your bit financially, but how can you back up the logic "I'm not going to support the team unless we're playing well".

There's no way you can, there just isn't. Sit in silence if you want by all means lol

Chicken & Egg

It may not be clear but I get that you're saying there's other ways of supporting the club, I'm talking about supporting the team though.

Chicken & Egg

My last word is that again you haven't read my post properly.

I do shout encouragement and support the team. Just in my own little way. My Daughter won't even sit next to me because of all the noise I make.

I would literally be ashamed to sing the Barcelona song as it is embarrassing. (In my eyes). As is the new one.

I'm not saying it's you, I'm saying the original post in this thread suggests there are people who don't encourage the team in any way unless they're playing well.

And you think the songs are embarrassing? Fine, but they won't stop anytime soon.

Chicken & Egg

Correct if I'm wrong, but haven't we stolen this 'great', new 'sing on our own' chant that everyone loves so much off of Oldham who sung it non-stop at Boundary Park last week?

It's not original but some of the younger generation were singing it on the train to Rotherham.

Chicken & Egg

It's not a wonderful song but one of those that people actually join in with. Otherwise it's just 'Super Brentford FC' 57 times a game and that's it

No.... There are more songs sung than just that one.:nono: It was ok yesterday, even New Road cleared their throats. I bet that was hard for the old moaners sitting on their backsides?! :crazy3:

When the Royal Oak was around, not every stand sung or made a noise, although there used to be a round of applause when the oldies in Braemar piped up in the 70's/80's ;)

Chicken & Egg

People complaining about the atmosphere, and yet make no attempt to get behind the team themselves.

It can only be Brentford FC.

Chicken & Egg

The first time I heard it was in the pub in Rotherham.

And 99.9% of chants are not original. There's nothing wrong with that - people follow and set trends. That's how the world works.

The point you're missing is that we're differentiating between supporting the CLUB (buying a season ticket etc), and supporting the TEAM (singing, vocal support). This is the point you're spectacularly failing to get.

Also your point about disposable income is highly misguided. Virtually everyone I know and go to Brentford with works for their money. We don't 'rape the bank of mum and dad'. Consider what you say before making such lazy statements, please.
