what happened to Chris Dickson? I thought we were on the verge of signing him just before the Transfer window. Just been looking at Dulwich Hamlet new web site. I suppose someone like Millwall will steal him under our noses.

Chris Dickson

I've seen the Hamlet a few times in the past.

I don't think someone at that level is the answer to our goal scoring problem. (See Tomlin, Moore, etc.)

We need someone who is proven at L1 level at the moment up front.

You mean someone who will cost £650K to sign and demand 4-5K per week?

DJ and Owusu came from non league clubs.

It is virtually possible to sign a forward with a proven record for less than mega bucks quite frankly..it is always going to be a gamble on a non league player who has what it takes or a premiership untried reserve player..all are gambles in their own way.

LR got slaughtered for buying several forwards who are all poor, he could have ot lucky and stumbled on a gem.

I really don't know what people are expecting SF to do about it, magic one out of thin air?

Chris Dickson

I meant on loan. Difficult but not impossible.

You are not going to get a proven league one goalscorer on loan, they will be playing and scoring for someone else. If you have stacks of cash you can buy one but that rules us out.
We can only hope for a premiership youngster or a non league player who scores regularly..both are still a gamble!

Leon Knight. I'll say it again he may be a **** but he will score goals. Have him on loan, hope he keeps us up and get rid of him with the rest of the tossers in the summer. New team new dressing room, no problems

Chris Dickson

why will he score goals, no-one will pass the ball to the little sh*t

Might if they are desperate for a win bonus...something a a bit lacking of late!

do you seruously think someone proven in l1 scoring will come to us people in the league below would hardly want to come to us. we might as well try for an l2 proven striker.

L2 might not even come...

I have to say that this is a great shout if we could get him for a few months. Nobody else wants him but then nobody wants fitz either but which one would you rather have?

Chris Dickson

Didn't Asaba come to us from Dulwich?

I think the problem with Knight is that he is a seriously disruptive influence in the dressing room even in a winning team and therefore not what we need when we have a lot of young players who need the reassurance of playing alongside more experienced pros.

Chris Dickson

Asaba only played well when he had Bobby Taylor along side him. Good for us, rubbish for Reading, excellent at Gillingham with Sir Bob.

Chris Dickson

Actually, come to think about it, May Sir Bob was a drug dealer:eek:

a month ago we were on the verge of signing this guy
Hamlet started the second period with their tails up and took the lead on 47 minutes. Dickson beat Galbraith in the air and had the pace to run onto his own flick-on, smashing the ball past Smith from 25 yards – a genuine wonder-strike that was all his own work. (2-3)

sounds like the sort of goal Willock scores

shame the pub centre halves Dickson plays against, aren't appearing in League 1.

Chris Dickson

He does sound a good player, but we aren't in a position to wait 6 months for someone to bed themselves into league football. It more or less took that long before we started seeing the best of DJ.

Therefore we need someone who has that league experience........although a very tough ask given our current situation.

Chris Dickson

Anyone with that kind of prolific record in non-league must be worth a shout, rather than belittle his efforts, or all half-decent strikers at that level would be scoring that many, which isn't the case. Chris Moore didn't have that kind of scoring record, Lloydie didn't at Staines, nor did Asaba, and so on. Those who can score that many in non-league are clearly head and shoulders above most strikers at that level.
We must remember that if he's earning, for example, £300 a week at Dulwich Hamlets, and say £300 a week in his normal job, then coming to a league club might not be that attractive as the league club might only want to pay him £600 a week in any case. Many non-leaguers have no desire to play professionally if the money isn't good enough.

Chris Dickson

Had trial at Charlton this week.

Played against Ipswich reserves Tuesday night - scored two and made another. Wayne Burnett, Dulwich's manager does not reckon he will still have him next season.

Missed the boat again.

Even signing a non-leage player is expensive now i.e. Boyd (Stevenage - Peterborogh £250k and Michael Kightly Grays - Wolves ). To be honest though, L1 and 2 are poor poor leagues and anyone who can simply shoot at goal will threaten. Jermain Beckford came from Wealdstone and would have been awesome for us. He looks class (take note Willock). Players are there but I think as more money goes into the conference, I reckon we may have to look lower down the pyramid i.e. Ryman Prem or Conference South for a rough diamond.

Havin said that some of the cak weve had up front - Oniboje - 6. 7" of comedy on legs and Wijnhaard (all 19 stone of him) - someone who can kick a ball anywhere on goal would get my vote.

Hurrah, a post about the subject in question.

Chris Dickson

another good signing we have missed out on.
£35,000 measly ****ing quid.
**** Dyke and **** Dickens too

how do you know he's 'good' ?

Charlton have the luxury of wasting £35k..........we don't.........unless you could've offered to pay for him.... :fishing:

its a gamble that they're willing to take. if he was free then it would've been gutting maybe, but then has anyone actually seen him play?

Saw him play a couple of times for Erith about two years back and once for Hamlet - and he scored every time. At £35k, if you had the money, it is a gamble worth taking. We havent got the money so end of.
The deal is actually £50k in all sense and purpose, as Hamlet get £15k on top as soon as he makes a first team appearance.
