Clark Masters

I can't understand the attitude towards Masters.. He was thrown in at the deep end, probably too early for him through necessity, and subsequently struggled behind an ever changing and erratic defence. The likes of Osbourne and Charles etc all made just as many costly errors in their stints in the first team under Leroy, yet they're all being touted as potential superstars. If people are prepared to give these guys a chance, why not Masters?

apparently he's staying now......:

I believe an option had been taken up for, I presume, a year. I guess the club have offerred a longer deal with more money and are awaiting his decision.
I personally think he has a lot of potential, I just hope he didn't lose his confidence too much, for his extended run, in a sh1t side, last season.

:imwith: I'm all for giving him another year to see if he improves as I think he can. The only thing I'd add to the above is that yes, the inexperienced side of our defence didn't exactly shine, but the supposedly experienced players in front of him were absolute pony too. Masters had absolutely no chance and it would be very short-sighted and harsh to judge him based on the amount of help he had keeping goals out last season. 1990 Peter Shilton or 98/99 Peter Schmeichel couldn't have kept Brentford up last season.

I'd have liked to have seen Smeichel's reaction if he had played behind our defence of last season - I think Griffiths would have been swinging from the floodlights by the second match... "pour encourager les autres" as Napoleon might have said (though he was too short to be a decent keeper)

rofl :sorted:
Napoleon only had one usable arm too - cue comment from resident miseries about him still being better than Masters

Nothing to do with Napoleon, mate. It was Voltaire who coined the phrase, in reference to the Royal Navy's execution of Admiral Byng for not trying hard enough.

Oh how we needed a policy like that at Griffin Park last season!

Double points for history :banghead:

Masters could have the greatest defence in the world in front of him and he would still be a useless t****r.

He was the worst goalkeeper in the league last season and if is our "number one" keeper next year he'll be the worst again, only in a lower league.

HOLD ON!!! if we have given this guy an extension, then maybe, just maybe the rumours of a "big" club coming in for him may just materialise!!!!!

I can dream!!!:fishing:

Clark Masters

He definitely won't be number one keeper next season. If he is, I'll eat my season ticket*

I was going to point that out, but I'm glad someone else did it first. No-one on here likes an educated b*st*rd do they?

Isn't it great though, that threads about dodgy keepers end up featuring 18th century French literature?

Where has all this hatred of Masters come from?

He was dropped in at the deep end against Blackpool last season and played a blinder.

something to do with comments he made to Bees fans who were following their local non-league club.

That would be the Hampton v AFC Dons game.

From elsewhere:

Goalkeeper Masters has yet to sign a new contract, but Butcher has already said former Hibs custodian Simon Brown will be his first choice.

It is understood that Masters is disappointed with the situation and Scott has been trying to placate him.

Scott insisted: "We have a year's option on Masters' current contract and have offered him a new, improved two-year deal. Although Brown is the more experienced keeper, Masters can challenge for the No. 1 shirt - it's up to him to prove that he deserves the place.

"He has still got a lot to learn, but he is very ambitious and I didn't expect him to be happy about being seen as the No. 2. We have another fine goalkeeping prospect in Seb Brown, who is a second year scholar."

so hopefully Simon Brown won't get injured because if he does in AS own words we will have a "keeper with a lot to learn" playing and a second year scholar on the bench!!!!!!!!

(words fail me sometimes!):(
