Er what a young manager, one of the smaller wage budgets in the country, they've got planning permission for a new stadium, Check and Check and we're er er er er trying to get a new stadium.

Colchester maybe one point above us and have planning permission for a new stadium but apart from that they hold nothing above us. They are a **** pot small club and if we are going to try and emmulate somebody else I hope its somebody a damn site bigger then them.

What annoys me is if they do go up why is that of all the small clubs that get a team together every so often ours is the one which always just misses out.

Not so long ago, the Bees played Total football with interchangeable wingers.......MA has achieved the impossible this season, but it aint pretty that's for sure!

I'm not sure that I am that envious of them getting a new 10k all seater plastic stadium which will probably resemble a larger Rushden and Diamonds type of affair.

OK I can see its an improvment on the very non league feel of Layer Rd but all the same I'd rather have GP.

I agree I wish we had Neil Dannes in our midfield but most other teams would say they wish they had Michael Turner in their defence, so I can't see how one or two of their current squad might make me jealous (the only other two players who I might want in our squad are Parkinson and Halford) enough to envy Colchester. Furthermore until recently people would say Pratley was a very good loan move so i'm not jealous of that can you name the players I should be so envious of apart from Yeates (who from what i've heard from a couple of Col U fans, only plays well when he can bothered) that Parkinson has signed? Yes I'd like to get a new ground to but surely thats a topic that should be discussed elsewhere. Furthermore Colchester have spent a bloody long time getting this planning permisson so what to say we won't get it in a few years (even if i'm honest I don't see it happening)? At the end of the day Col U are having a good season and a good few months of the pitch but there still a small club and we are still bigger then them and there are a lot of clubs who are bigger then we could try and emulate, so forgive me if i see a bigger picture then Colchester United.

Sometimes I think Brentford' FC's problem is our location; the cost of living means that unless we pay higher wages we will never persuade a player from outside of London to sign for us when say they could sign for Colchester and have more disposable income. Even signing other London club's reserve players is a problem; why didn't we sign Yeates? I suppose you could say that our ground is worth more but thanks to mismanagement by persons who deserve to be hung drawn and quartered, we can pay our debts off by selling the ground but where do we relocate to and with what cash left to build a stadium?

I grew up thinking that Brentford were sleeping giants; a big club waiting to relive it's glory days but not anymore. I sob when I look back through our history in Positively Brentford; we used to be a big club with great attendances.....those days are gone! But you're right, on fan base alone, we are technically a bigger club than Colchester but financially they are probably a lot more viable than us.

I agree with Holysmit. I am sick of it always being the small time clubs that get their acts together and turn us over in the league. Teams which have cost us promotion in the past: Bury, Stockport, Crewe, and possibly in the future: Southend(?), Colchester(?).

Having said that, look at where the first two mentioned are today. :lol:

Agreed, but Sweepy was commenting on the size of their gate for a side that is near the top. I was pointing out that 4,700 against Tranmere who bring small away support and suggested that the home ends were probably nearly full. When they get their new stadium it will no doubt be proved that yes they are a tin pot club, that deserved tin pot Layer Road.

It maybe where they would want to be, (although I'm not convinced it is for players with family) they however may not necessarily be able to afford it and so choose to earn similar wages in other cheaper areas. Surrounding areas to Colchester there are some very nice villages that are easily affordable and what footballers with a wife and kids may prefer.

The tickets for Yeovil went on general sale today. As of 2.30pm we have sold our 1600 allocation. Looking at the possibility of getting some more from them but I suppose it depends on them being safe or needing points to survive.

I think you're vieing it from the wrong angle. What you say is a no-brainer.

We tried to sign Lee Trundle in 2003. We could match his personal terms but he could buy far bigger property outside of London plus his cost of living is less.

This is where Brentford FC is knocked back time after time.
