Crap Referees

Two games and two disgraces. I have a feeling this could be the main story of the world cup if it continues! Mistakes happen but remember these are the best refs aswell as the best players in the world.

By far the worst for me was today's Mexico second goal. There will be worse to come.....:kingkev:

Sadly they're not the best refs in the world. There's a lot of regionalism going on. If it was the best in the world they'd all be from a few European and South American nations.

They also use refs as linos, ignoring the fact that lining is a skill in itself. I bet the lino at the Mexico game today was an experienced ref who hasn't lined many games in the last few years.

England have supplied proper linos (eg Phil Sharpe who lined the final in Japan but never reffed at the top level in England), but I think it's been different for refs from other nations, particularly smaller ones.

But you're right to suggest that I don't really know

OK, I withdraw my suggestion! I do recall this being an issue in the past though.

For that second offside, if the ref had seen the ball coming off a defender's head, he should at least have conferred with the lino rather than just accepting his flag. Marginal errors as to whether a player is beyond the last defender are excusable, technical mistakes like this aren't.

although FIFA have to take responsibility - similar to the Pakistani cricket team, once that noise is around the organisation, then "sporting events" (such as a miskick or a middle-order collapse) look suspicious when they really aren't. and when suspicion tips too far, then frankly what's the point of watching...

I've taken that on board, if England have two perfectly good goals ruled out in the first half by incompetent officials tonight, I'll remember to just shrug and say 'win some, lose some'.

For many tournements now the level of diving, feigning injury and general cheating has increased yet FIFA has done nothing to help the officials. No citing of the cheats, no video replays. Referees are under enormous pressure and have very little support. Look how long it took for goal line technology to be brought in. Stop moaning about referees and look to bring this game into the 21st century and improve the dreadful level of sportmanship.

Unbelievable. I read in the Times this morning that the Japanese ref in the Brazil v Croatia game didn't speak English and was trying to converse with the Croatians in Japanese!!

FFS Fifa what are you playing at.

Lessons could be learnt from the ICC Elite Umpires List. All test matches have umpires from this list. Of the current list of 12, 8 are from England & Australia, and there are none at all from India or the West Indies.

In other words you should have the best referees possible available and it doesnt matter if there are 2 or 3 from England or Germany or wherever.

Saying that you still get crap umpiring decisions sometimes!

Thought the Ivory Coast ref did well in the Chile-Australia game. Lino also got the off-side for Cahill's 2nd goal correct as well. Still cannot believe the decisions in the Mexico game though....

We all know it is fixed, it hurts my soul but if FIFA can decide to play a tournament in a middle eastern desert they can certainly manipulate the result. England stick up to them so we get fiddled every time, politically FIFA need to keep Brasil in the competition to avoid a full scale riot. The way Korea were shepherded in the WC semi final was pathetic in 02.

The refs have been so woeful as they are from a pub league, multiculturalism gone mad. It seems that head butting, two footed lunges and elbows are not worth a yellow, shirt pulling is part of the game and diving is not worth punishment. You wait until we play tonight, we will have 6 players booked by half time, the Italians will get away with 7 professional fouls and will get a penalty for someone diving on the half way line.

They have to invite all nationalities or they are being racist. Doesn't matter how feckin useless they are. A bit akin to a primary school sports day, where everyone get a prize.
