Why do you want them to go down? Just because they signed Cullip who used to play for QPR? He used to play for us too.
If DJ went to QPR, would you welcome him back, and if he did come back, would you want us to go down for signing an ex QPR player?

I hope Gillingham stay up..

oh dear, let me explain myself then, Gills are in the bottom 4 with a new manager who has not done great... I loved Cullip at Brentford was sad to see him go but Gillingham are in a mess, oh and nothing to do with qpeer either

Interested to hear this as there have been many previous comments on the GPG criticising Cullip.

Thought he did ok for us, then let him go (albeit for some money and add ons) and proved he could play higher up. Wouldn't have him back now though! He's ready for the knackers yard!

Cullip was a great player for us and I was sorry to see him go.

His best days are behind him now though.

I agree that I'd like to see Gillingham go down though.

Remember him playing a blinder for Sheffield Utd vs the arse at Highbury, great commitment and he knows how to tackle, would be in mine Bees start 11 for all-times

He was OK in a relegation team and then did his cruciate ligaments early in the next season - though he would surely have been on the bench after Hermann arrived anyway. Hardly the stuff of legends.

Effective lower division CB, but don't see how anyone would have him in an all-time Bees 11. IMHO, from before his time, Millen, Evans and McNichol were better and, since then, Hreidarsson, Powell, Sonko, Ingimarsson, Turner and Sodje - so he might just sneak into a team of 11 centre backs

Okay, okay guys, Hreidarsson, Powell, Sonko and Ingimarsson are better not sure with Sodje and Michael Turner

I've got to be honest and say I remember him as a stand out player in a very poor side. I'm not sure he was anything special.

Cullip looked good in comparison with Leon Townley and Graeme Hogg and always appeared to give 100% and a fans favourite as not opposed to dishing out stick to centre forwards.

However anyone who thinks he is anywhere near the best 11 is dreaming, he isn't in the best 11 centre halfs for me.

I always thought he would have done well for us and could have been,if not a legend, then a very good signing. The Paddock would have luved him.

Sort of 100% player we like and needed back then.

Was always surprised Noades let him go..

Sodje and Turner are both miles better than Cullip. Possibly Matty Heywood is too. Karleigh Osborne is still young, but I suspect in time he will be a much better centre-back than Cullip.

Whilst I agree with your first point, and I would rate Turner as equal or better than players like Powell and Ingiamarsson who have played at the top level, not sure about the second.

Cullip held his own in the second tier with Brighton, Osborne and Heywood struggled together in the third last year, albeit one was young and the other not fully fit.

If we go up we may be in a better position to judge but I think Cullip was a better player, although he didn't prove it conclusively at Brentford.

I don't know why we are giving Cullip a bad rap. He was a decent centre back and we could have saved £££ by holding on to him rather than getting Scotty Marshall for £250k a month later but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I don't think anyone's giving Cullip a bad rap - just reacting with surprise to the suggestion that he'd make an all-time XI, that's all.


WEB - I did say possibly. And Osborne is still very young, never mind last season. I think he will make the grade at least at Championship level, with time, which he has on his side.

IMHO Heywood has been superb for about 20'ish games this season and for that reason is towards the bottom of the pile. Cullip played at a higher level so therefore is/was a better player but neither were the stuff of Brentford legends as far as I'm concerned.

He has joined Lewes.

Lewes have confirmed the signing of former Albion skipper Danny Cullip.

The 31-year-old, who has also played for Fulham, Brentford, Sheffield United, Watford, Nottingham Forest, QPR and Gillingham, has signed a two-year contract at the Dripping Pan.

Manager Kevin Keehan said: "I am really pleased to have signed Danny and would like to thank our title sponsors, Magic Man, for their help in bringing Danny to Lewes.

"I have two more quality signings I hope to make in the near future and then we will be ready for the coming season."

Danny is now working as a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion whilst also helping out at Worthing College running there academy 2nd team.

Sadly our former centre back, Danny Cullip, currently with Lewes has been forced to retire at the age of 33 due to ongoing injuries. Shame. Good player in his time with us.
