Darren Powell

Hang on, has Powell actually hit anyone?

Violent conduct might mean he just grabbed him over shoved him.

Darren Powell

Ok people I have changed my mind and now love Kareigh Osbourne especially the way he waits for the attacking player to enter the box before hacking them down. The way he always shows the attacking player the way to goal but more importantly the way he aimlessly boots the ball up field to the opposition keeper:wave::eek::wave:

Like the way he aimlessly booted the ball to Sam Williams on Saturday against Exeter to play a part in setting up the equaliser.

From what I've seen of Karleigh this season whilst he is still prone to the odd mistake, as are all players at this level, he is much improved and quite honestly if he was as big a muppet as you make out then I'm sure AS would have figured him out by now.

Darren Powell

I will let you have your own opinion. Although my opinion is that you are talking complete and utter b***ocks on this.

But going back to your original point, do you honestly believe that we should be blaming a player for his colleague getting himself sent off, due to your prejudice against Osborne's abilty?

Osborne and abilty

You mean Osborne the liabilty:idea:

Powell got sent off for being stupid (and should be fined 2 weeks wages) Why he hit out at Osborne only he will know and I am sure it had nothing to do with Hullbee's dislike of Osborne's playing abilty.

Darren Powell

There can be no justification for one player striking a member of his own team, under any circumstances. However, it is up to the Scotty to sort this out. I was there, but didn't really see what happened, but it would probably have gone unnoticed by the referee and linesman if the Bournemouth players hadn't drawn it to their attention. As to whether Powel should play for us again, only the Manager can decide.

Darren Powell

I have been pleasantly surprised by Powell's footballing performances to date - he's given us a real aerial presence. However, I've been much less pleased by his 'leadership'. Several times against Bradford he laid into a team-mate, and he had a right go at Hamer on Saturday (after the incident where he collided with Bennett). I guess the main reason he was brought in was to use his experience to marshal the troops, but he's a bit of a loose cannon to be honest. Looks like we may not see him again...

Darren Powell

Marvin is crap but KO is not, would you prefer Pead?;)

Agree with Marvin comment.

Pead I think could have been ok this season had Andy Scott had given him a run of games

I really wish that all thoose Osborne lovers on here would stand up at games and defend their man when he is getting booed and moaned at

Darren Powell

Anyone calling Osborne a clown on this thead should think again, he had a very very good game today and will easily keep his place with more performaces like that. Apart from a few wayward passes he was excerlent.

Darren Powell

OK, three pages of emotion and vitriol on this thread but NOBODY has yet actually answered the question "what actually happened".

Like the overwhelming majority of Bees fans I was seated opposite and at the other end of the pitch and saw nothing.

Was anyone in the Bnmth end or perhas MarkyBee had a closer view from his commentary point.

We would all like an unemotional and factual account of what happened please.

Many thanks.

i have to say that although i think we have far better RB's in the squad and do not really think osborne is up to scratch, he did have a much better game today and didnt let the incident with powell get to him

apparently he just grabbed bennet by the throught, shame because i thought a player with that experience wouldnt be so stupid. :(

1) How could you not.

2) I thought you were mad but now realise you are extreme special needs, Craig Pead!

3) I don't love him but more than prepared to stick up for him at games if that helps.

Darren Powell

Frankly the Muff players were whinging to the ref all afternoon & I assumed it was Pitman squealing to the referee about Powell & not about a punchup between two Brentford players.

Powell has done well for us in the air as mentioned by Steveil and his physical presence was v useful against that gentleman of the sport, Fletcher, but if punches were thrown at KO then he should be severely punished by the club. Btw some of Powell's distribution today was suicidal - some of KO's was sublime.

Darren Powell

powell , :nono: with a 3 match ban, we may as well get rid of him now, could of cost us the points, :(

Darren Powell

From what i saw powell definitely swung an arm at karleigh after a bit of pushing and shoving. The referee wasn't looking at it, but sent him off on the advice of the linesman on the far-side.

Darren Powell

agree with Greenholme, regardless of what Powell actually did, how on earth did he get himself in that situation to start with. As the clock ticked 47mins you thought only at Brentford could this be happening, top, 1up away from home and playing well, and we go and get a man sent off for handbags with a colleague !!

Fair play to Osborne, he could have cracked after the incident but probably played even better, and as for Mr Phillips, a reliable as ever performance with a couple of cracking blocks.

Lets hope it is dealt with internally and we can concentrate on more positive things.

From The Times

A rush of blood to Darren Powell’s head almost cost Brentford three points yesterday in an action-packed game at Dean Court. Brentford were leading 1-0 thanks to a Billy Clarke header when Powell saw red for striking one of his team-mates at the start of the second half.

The rugged defender, who has played for Southampton and Crystal Palace, was in commanding form at the heart of the visiting team’s defence until a disagreement after a Bournemouth corner ended with him squaring up to Karleigh Osborne, the Brentford right back. Like heavyweight boxers going head-to-head in Caesar’s Palace, the defenders traded insults before Powell appeared to try to butt Osborne after grabbing him by the throat. After consultation with one of his assistants, Gavin Ward, the referee, sent off Powell, who disappeared down the tunnel shaking his head and looking embarrassed.

“He is distraught,” Andy Scott, the Brentford manager, said. “A few of his team-mates would have been queuing up to punch him if we had lost and I would have been first in the queue. He knows he’s done wrong, but everything is as good as gold now and everyone’s made up.”

best post in this thread so far !! :D

agree with the above,

Darren Powell

It looked to me like pushing and shoving.

From what I could see, as it was down the other end, It came shortly after Powell (I think) cleared off the line, so presumably DP had something to say to KO about how the ball ended up heading goalwards.

Darren Powell

......................apparently it was about surnames................Karleigh said "theres no U" and Darren said "theres two L's".....................

Darren Powell

What about poor old Adam Newton who had to be sacrificed over this incident

When he gets a medal on May 2nd he will quite happily accept"taking one for the team":sorted:

He wasn't sacrificed, they are professionals in a team game. They all know that adjustments have to be made in situations like that.

Don't agree. Most of us on here would have been cheesed off to be subbed under those circumstances

Hand bag fights between team mates is not professional and he let the side down.

Darren Powell

Powell has made it into The Suns team of the day

 the Telegraph tells me about his interesting day, scoring and then getting sent off.......for f*cks sake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darren Powell

Sky Sports News didn't show the incident.

Darren Powell

The incident happened after an almighty goalmouth scramble at the start of the second half which resulted from our players seemingly to be still in the dressing room rather than back on the pitch playing football. Hamer then cleared upfield and most eyes (and all cameras) were on the ball. Attention then turned to an altercation between KO, DP and Bmuff player. A supporter sitting close to me immedialety reported that DP had punched KO and the Bmuff player was trying to keep the peace. Ref consulted lino and inevitable red followed. Biggest concern was that KO would receive red as well.

The incident was reported on SSN last night but was somewhat overshadowed by the Romanian rugby battle.

Due to extreme second half effort by the players remaining on the pitch this unsavioury incident did not cost us points at Bournemouth but leaves us short of central defensive cover. Powell's mistake led to the goal against Exeter and he made a few slips in the first half yesterday. DP is (was) good to have in the squad but I am more than happy to see the Phillips-Bennett partnership back together.

After the match, KO was very calmly explaining what had happened to Nathan Elder. The spirit of the players getting onto the team bus was excellent - most of them got back off the bus to buy ice creams from the van in the forecourt. :) Powell was not surprisingly looking a bit sheepish and kept a low profile. :sneakoff:

The win was a great healer so, hopefully, no lasting damage other than a 3-game ban for DP.

Darren Powell

I am more than happy to see the Phillips-Bennett partnership back together.

I am as well. Phillips did not deserve to be dropped in the first place. He might not be one that takes the plaudits but I've never seen him do anything wrong.

Darren Powell

Feel big time sorry for Phillips who has been awesome all season.

Osborne (not my favourite player) but ran Bean close as man of the match today.

Powell has been brought in for experience - he could have cost us promotion this afternoon.

I would love to see Phillips keep his place now.

Powell was totally out of order and deserves to walk to be honest...

I think Powell was drafted in after the Wycombe game, when were shown up for our lack of height in our team.

Even before Powell was sent off yesterday, I thought he was having a 'mare...rushing clearances and passing to the opposition :nono:

Phillips was solid when he came on and agree he should see out the season in the team and help lift the League 2 trophy :sorted:

I had a go at someone in New Road on Saturday for slagging KO off and one or two other players, including Billy Clarke who ended up scoring our equaliser

Why bother going if you are not going to support the team during the match?

The Barnet game was the warning, the Wycombe game confirmed it. Powell was a very good move by Andy Scott but as it happened, none of the teams since have been able to provide the same threat that those two teams posed.

Darren Powell

Well I was in the Bournemouth end and the report that Banana posted from "The Times" is a pretty accurate description of what happened. The interesting thing is that the referee didn't see it and the assistant did not think that it was bad enough to draw his attention to the matter. Then a Bournemouth player got involved. Had Pittman (I think it was him) not got involved then I am sure to incident would have just faded away.

Powell obviously was upset at Osborne's defending and told him so. Osborne didn't like the criticism and responded, when Powell shoved him away with an angry gesture. To me it was a case of two committed players reacting to a situation that sometimes happens in a passionate game like football. Nevertheless, Powell is old enough and experienced enough not to get involved the way he did. I just hope that common sense will prevail and no more will be heard of the matter. Somehow I doubt it though.

If you think Pead is good and would have done well in this team, methinks you maybe lowering your credibility :)

Darren Powell

The press association put the goal down to Powell, a bit of a mix-up over shirt numbers. Their guy in the press box was aware it was Clarke, but their 'facts' remained and are sold to other organisations. Billy will have to go 'round and correct all the history books.

Clarke scored the goal, Cozy was 75 yards away!

Darren Powell

DP should know better especially if he was playing for a contract next year.

He was only doing what some subscribers on here have wanted to do for KO for a couple of seasons now. :fishing:

Perhaps he will serve his suspension by giving KO some 1-2-1 defending tuition?

You just don't like KO,not for football reasons :nono:

Obviously I was referring to Adam Newtons professionalism!

Perhaps it should have been the other way round. Osborne has defended infinitely better than Powell in the last two games.

Darren Powell

so he could attack other Bees players....

It was a mistake.

Karliegh actually notched, but was too modest to say so

FFS have the decency to spell his name correctly.;)

Darren Powell

Northampton's finest in our car came up with a couple of reasons.
Was DP upset at the short corner coming over and maybe KO didn't do enough to close down or did KO have a pop at DP's spazzy attempted clearance that he had to mop up?

Darren Powell

i find it very ironic that scott put powell in the team to support osborne with his experience and then they end up fighting.......:fishing:

Is it now hypocritical, if I point out, there is no "U" in Osborne ? :owusu:
