Does anybody know anything about him?
20 year old striker who looks set to join us next season from Hillingdon (according to NLP).

Dave Lawrence

the finances being what they are
i'd far rather the club invested in
hungry young players like this than
league journeymen

let's hope lawrence is the new DJ

Hillingdon borough have reached the final
of the FA Vase to be played at...

birmingham city fc

theyre only slightly better than hanwell town:eek:

are they two or three leagues below yeading?

Dave Lawrence

a certain Mr Rowlands came from Hanwell Town.....he was good but then he blew it by going to the sh*te and slagging the Bees off.
But he was our best creative midfielder we've had at Brentford for a long time. So whether players come from Yeading, Hillingdon, Hanwell or Bedfont... if they're good enough with the right attitude you can make it in League football

John Griffin, in his time has brought some great non league players to this club. Hopefully this may be another, God alone knows we need a striker ;)

a lot of the noades team owe their careers to him

...and at Hanwell Town before Farnborough.
Incidentally his Dad played for them in the 80's as have his four brothers. :computer:

I thought this was a thread about a former player of ours from the 70's and then I remembered that was Keith Lawrence.

i will never complain if we sign non-league strikers :) its a 50/50 chance of them succeeding which is pretty good in my book.

Dave Lawrence

If the turnover of players is going to be so large every summer I won't mind either if we always take a punt on at least one non-league player

Well hopefully he is the next DJ and not the next Julian Charles.

Whatever happened to him?

50/50 is generous IMHO.

I reckon one in three at most succeed at league level, especially League One level.

However with strikers it is always worth the gamble. If they pay off it does tend to be spectacular.

The bar's not too high at Brentford though, given our paucity of strikers in recent years.

If anything the Bar's too bloody low at Brentford cos all our strikers keep blazin' it over the bloody thing!!!

Perhaps this will be our £50k from Coca Cola: £10k to Hillingdon and a £40k one-year contract with an option?

Dave Lawrence

In the Chronny today.

On trial this summer is aleft sided midfield player who has scored 37 goals this season. MA regards him as one for the future and a bit of a gamble. But a lot depends on what division we are in.

Bye bye Tabby as a left sided midfielder I hope.

me aswell.;)

Dave Lawrence

Calm down a bit- according to the Uxbridge Gazette he has had trials with Brentford & Brighton this season and the Bees have invited him back to pre season training

I hope you're right. If Tabby leaves, I'll be making a few entries in one of our "Miserable as f%ck" threads.

If this guy is on non contract forms we get him for nothing plus he would be on around 20-25k I suspect.

Dave Lawrence

I do hope Tabby stays.....................but he hasn't signed a contract yet.

Dave Lawrence

He is a converted winger. I believe his dad is the manager or coach at the club.

It would be a massive leap to the Football League but maybe we have unearthed another jewel and he will be a Canpbell rather than a Metcalf or Charles.

I wish we could have signed Beckford from Wealdstone in January a sa direct DJ replacement as I bet we could have picked him up cheaply at that point before all the vultures descended.

i think they were already descending long before that

raw non league players are always worth a gamble:sorted:

I they sign him,we should sign another 6 or so because if he is any good (Aka Campbell) he will get sold for some silly figure.

A Brentford legend who put us 1-0 up at Old Trafford in a League cup tie in 1975(?)

I reckon it's always worth a punt on a non-league player, we have had more successes than failures going down this road.

Dave Lawrence is the best mate of the son of a very good friend of mine. My mate (not a Bees fan, but always shows loads of interest) contacted BFC over a year ago to recommend the lad and was totally ignored. I told him to make sure that John Griffin was informed, he faxed BFC and got the reply that "lots of people recommend players, we look at some but not all as we only have a part time scout". My mate couldn't believe the apathy and apparent lack of interest, but lo & behold, J Griffin and M. Allen have now found a potential DJ Campbell!!
My mate spoke to Dave last night (apparently known as Figo in the lower league circles) and was told that he'd trained with the Bees, been treated very well and was coming back for a proper assessment for 1 week in July. He also said QPR had shown an interest. Incidentally he's a dustman at the mo, but said he could afford the massive drop in wages to come to GP.;)

Even more had we signed Devonshire, Regis, Ferdinand & Jason Roberts.

Dave Lawrence on trial

It was said, pre MA's departure that Dave Lawrence would come down for a weeks trial with BFC this July as John Griffin has been very impressed with him. He is an exciting prospect, only 20 years old and scored 37 goals last season, the front two for Hillingdon scoring 62 goals between them...very impressive :sorted:

Dave Lawrence

I like the sound of all these potential goalscorers being at training, a refreshing (stand) change:wave:

Dave Lawrence

piccy of Dave Lawrence with his Father borrowed from the Boro' web-site ;

Dave Lawrence

Saw him at Staines and spoke to a couple of his mates. He is not ready yet but given 6 months and some pro training he could do the business. Put in a couple of good crosses in the game. I would say give him the opportunity.............. you never know ;)

Dave Lawrence

I think it was him coming on the second half yesterday ( have to admit to some confusion as to who is who at the present) but looked to get involved and showed some nice touches, would agree that he is not ready yet but with regullar training could do well, Was pleased that he spent the time on the pitch talking to the others and telling them what to do so probably no lack of confidence!!!!
